It seemed as though Adam did not even hear the words that were coming out of Noah's mouth.
Adam continued to walk toward him with a heavy, predatory stride that made the hair on the back of Noah's neck stand up.
Noah continued shifting back, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. The large sitting room, which Noah had complained was far too big and exaggerated earlier, suddenly felt like it didn't have enough space for him to move away.
Every time he took a step back, Adam took a larger step forward, closing the distance.
In his frantic state of panic, Noah's leg hit the sharp edge of a mahogany side table, causing him to lose his balance. He gasped as he fell down hard on the ground, the impact jolting through his spine.
Before he could even attempt to scramble back to his feet, Adam was there.
He knelt down and used his strength to push Noah down flat on the rug, climbing over him until Noah was completely pinned under his weight.
