By the time we reached the square, Zeref finally put the squirming Lufe down. The moment his feet touched the ground, the kid bolted like he had been launched from a cannon.
Straight toward the candied fruit stalls.
Of course.
"Lufe, wait!" I called, already knowing it was useless.
He stopped only because he reached his target. Priorities.
I bought him strawberries. Zeref got apple. I grabbed berries, because if I was going to be dragged around like a tired mother, I deserved snacks too.
We walked hand in hand, Lufe proudly in the middle, chewing loudly like he had just conquered a kingdom.
It was… peaceful.
Suspiciously peaceful.
Before we could enter the restaurant, a familiar voice cut through the air.
"Having a family dinner without me?"
I froze.
Kael.
He stood there with his arms crossed, looking annoyingly handsome and very much like a man who had timed his entrance for maximum dramatic effect. His gaze moved from Zeref, to Lufe, and finally landed on me.
