I exhaled slowly, then closed my eyes briefly to gather my thoughts and mind together.
By the time I opened them again, I felt calmer, and my fears had faded away, replaced by a familiar chill that settled whenever danger pressed closer than I imagined.
I decided to channel all my attention toward feeling their auras as Adrian had guided me.
After I read through the book Adrian gave me the night I discovered his identity, he had taken out his time and carefully guided me through the details and auras of each group.
The study was dimly lit while he worked. I entered the study, but rather than continue working, his calm voice filtered through the room.
"Can you identify a vampire when you meet one?"
The question threw me off guard. It was both unexpected and out of place, and more troubling, it was in the middle of the night.
I glanced around the study as though I would find a vampire, but there was none.
