He reached for her hand and intertwined their fingers. "So no one is dead?"
"No."
"That's shocking."
"Yeah…" Sera said slowly, sitting closer to him on the bed. "I have been thinking about that."
Eric opened one eye to look at her. "That is never a comforting sentence."
"I think the mating worked," she said.
Eric pushed himself upright slightly. "I don't understand. He said there was no way to know it worked."
"I know," she replied softly. "You didn't have to mate with Delilah, Eric. I am the one born on the night of the Blood Moon. Mating with me, it worked."
"How do you know this?" he asked quietly. "And babe, you better be absolutely sure. Because someone is going to die, and Ravok will not be doing the killing."
If the bond had been misdirected, then consequences would follow. And Eric would be the one forced to enforce them.
