"What happened the night of the Blood Moon?" Ravok asked, the amusement gone now.
Charles lifted his eyes slightly. "I was enlisted to be first line of defense against your father's shadow wolf. That night, every able man was called."
Ravok's jaw hardened but he did not interrupt.
"Viv and Ingrid were home alone," Charles said. "The maids had scattered. Everyone wanted to be somewhere safe." His eyes grew distant. "When I returned…" Charles paused. "When I returned near dawn, I was told," Charles went on, "that I had a child. That my wife was dead."
Ravok's eyes flickered.
"Complications from delivery," Charles said bitterly. "That was the explanation."
"So, Viv helped your wife deliver your child," Ravok said slowly, "but you think that child is Sera, not Delilah?"
