When they arrived home, the house greeted them with that hollow, late-night quiet that made every sound feel louder than it should be. The click of the front door, the soft shuffle of shoes, the distant hum of the refrigerator. At their opposite bedroom doors, they paused. Eric leaned in then, fingers brushing her arm, and kissed her forehead. "Get some sleep."
"Eric…" she whispered holding his wrist. Her fingers wrapped around him instinctively.
"Just a headache, I promise." He gave her a smile that was almost charming if you didn't know him. It came with a tiny shrug.
