Chapter 6 - They're lucky

"Oh…"

Yuki felt stupid.

He was the one with the knowledge, but…

'They might? They will—they will jump out. None of them can evolve yet.'

Haru saw Yuki's trembling hands, and his eyes turned cold.

Was Yuki going to ridicule him? Or worse—was he going to hit him?

He was the bully he knew, after all.

Yuki sighed with relief, aloof to his reactions, 'Fortunately, Haru is with us. Otherwise, I was going to lose all the trust I gained.'

As Haru coldly prepared for what would come, Yuki grabbed Haru's hand and shook it with gratitude.

Haru froze.

"So thank you, Haru. Really, really thank you. It's a great help."

The class became quiet; even Hue-sensei looked awkwardly in their direction.

Haru's lifeless eyes shattered, turning into pure indifference.

He was expecting… trouble.

'Is he acting?'

Or was he really changed?

Was it the side effect of the apocalypse?

He was really… confusing him.

He found no words to say and decided not to say a word.

Yuki turned to the class and asked, "We need something long. Does something come to your mind?"

Class: '...Who are you?'

As they updated the robe into a long fishing rod, Taka flattered Haru with the group they made the rope and upgraded it.

"I met two geniuses in one day. Thanks to you two, we're all alive."

"Mm." Haru nodded and spoke no more.

Taka was giving him an uncomfortable feeling.

Especially his smiley face… in a situation like this, it gave Haru all kinds of creeps.

Taka smiled happily, "Haru-san, we will be in your care. Let's get along well~"

Haru paused, then gave a small nod.

The group found him rude, but Taka's carefree, smiling attitude stopped them from complaining.

The brown-haired girl approached and spoke quietly,

"Sensei Hue called everyone to the corner. We're starting."

A slight shadow settled in their hearts.

"Haaah… I hope we can achieve it."

"I really don't want to."

"We don't have many choices anyway."

"Thank you, Rep."

After the group talked, Taka smiled at Rep, "Thank you, Sui. We're going."

Taka turned to Haru, "Join us. Let's go together."

Without a word, Haru agreed, and they all reached the corner of the classroom.

The school, the town—everything was much quieter.

From time to time, some sounds could be heard, and… the chaos was reappearing.

But right now, it was quiet.

Only the faint chewing sounds from other classrooms could be heard.

Sensei Hue stood at the corner.

Yuki and Sui stood at her sides.

The students stood quietly in front of them, waiting with hope in their eyes.

Sensei Hue watched everyone gather silently and went straight to the point.

"Class, our water is enough for another day—but our small amount of food is running out."

Seeing their faces fall, Yuki quickly interfered with a panicked smile.

"B-but no need to worry. Sensei is only explaining our current situation. We're already prepared and going to act now."

Students murmured with bitterness in their hearts.

"How, how… it's not possible."

"We're all going to die—I want to see my family."

"We should really wait…"

"I don't want to die."

Half of the class was already in despair.

Only Taka's group and the black-haired boy's group remained somewhat calm.

It seemed Taka had gathered only the students with a more mature mindset into his new friend group.

The black-haired boy asked quietly, "What will happen to the remaining zombies? Will we…?"

Yuki didn't wait, "Yes. We need to."

Students murmured uneasily.

"But what if the government finds a vaccine?"

Yuki paused.

'Vaccine?'

There was no such thing in 'Let Go And Die'

'Things will only get worse as time passes…'

Yuki thought about what to say but couldn't find a good reply.

"Ahem. Even if a vaccine appears, I don't think their weak bodies can endure it."

"Weak?"

"Koki, did you not see their bodies?"

Koki paused for a moment, then shook his head, "I can't look at them for that long."

"Their bodies are so weak, they can't even run."

Koki murmured, finding nothing to say, 'I don't think anyone other than you has done something this creepy…'

"Now, Sensei?" Yuki turned to her.

Sensei Hue sighed, full of hatred toward the world.

"Everyone, when they get loud, we'll place one desk upright and one horizontally, then line four of them along the wall."

"It's serious. Don't do anything without my approval—ask me first.

You brats are under my responsibility, so don't make me see you kids doing reckless things."

Students gulped.

"Y-yes, Hue-sensei. No need to worry."

"Yes, yes. We'll listen to Sensei."

Yuki smiled as he watched the scene.

'It would've been great if I had a higher-up like her when I was young.

They're lucky.'

"Yuki."

Yuki's bitter smile vanished at her voice, 'Yes, Sensei?"

"Check everything again and tell me when you're ready."

"Hai, hai." Yuki nodded with a smile and began checking everything again.

Sensei turned to the students, "Go back to your places. Don't move anything until I give the signal."

They stood up one by one, positioning themselves at both ends of the desks.

They were stressed and worried, but still ready to move the tables.

Sensei Hue gave the class one last glance, then turned to Yuki.

"Ready?"

Yuki checked the rod one last time.

The rope was tightly tied, the long metal pipe from the desk looked solid, timer was set.

"…Yes,"

Sensei Hue raised her hand.

The classroom fell into silence.

Then—

Yuki walked to the window closest to the next classroom, opened it, and started the timer.

He extended the fishing rod, slowly released the rope, then guided it toward the window of the other classroom.

They were on the fourth floor, and the phone was hanging near the first floor.

Minutes passed.

The class waited anxiously.

Then—

Drrrr!! Drrrrr!!! Drrrrr!!! Drrrr!!

With the alarm sound, chaos came alive once more.

Hrrgh…

GRAAAGH!!

Krrsshh—!

With zombie cries and the sound of breaking glass, chaos was approaching.
