Chapter 107 - [DEM] 107: Kenjaku

To be hailed as the new Abe no Seimei and Ashiya Doman—wasn't that a bit much praise for Kenjaku and Tengen?

In Morpheus's view, neither Kenjaku nor Tengen could compare to Abe no Seimei or Ashiya Doman.

Then again, Morpheus might be overestimating the legendary onmyoji. He'd never met them and didn't know their true strength.

Urahara Kisuke suddenly asked, "Why are you asking about Kenjaku? What's his connection to Geto Suguru?"

Morpheus replied, "You caught on."

Urahara Kisuke said, "You're being so obvious. I'm not an idiot—how could I not notice?"

Morpheus explained, "Kenjaku has a unique ability to swap bodies to extend his life. After a thousand years, all that's left of him is a brain."

"That brain is likely inside Geto Suguru's body now."

Urahara Kisuke's mind flashed to the stitch line on Geto Suguru's forehead. Initially, he'd thought it was from a head injury, but now it seemed Kenjaku's brain was housed in Geto's body.

It was bizarre but oddly made sense.

"So, the real mastermind isn't Geto Suguru—it's Kenjaku."

"Pretty much," Morpheus nodded, then asked, "Where is this guy now?"

Urahara Kisuke sighed. "After escaping from me, Kenjaku went into hiding. Even I couldn't track him down."

Morpheus asked, "Do you have anything he left behind? A piece of clothing, a body part, anything?"

Urahara Kisuke shook his head. "Nothing. He's very cautious and didn't leave a trace."

Yoruichi Shihouin chimed in, "He's a thousand-year-old relic. That level of caution is expected."

Morpheus sighed. "Keep tracking Kenjaku's whereabouts. Let me know if you find him."

"Got it," Urahara Kisuke agreed. He'd clashed briefly with Kenjaku, and while the man's strength was decent, his escape skills were top-notch. Even with Yoruichi's help, he'd slipped away.

Urahara had little hope of catching him alive.

If Morpheus was willing to step in, Urahara was more than happy to let him take a shot.

After seeing Urahara off, Morpheus sent a message to Kotoko Iwanaga.

"Tell your yokai friends to look for someone."

"Who?"

"A jujutsu sorcerer named Geto Suguru."

Morpheus didn't mention Kenjaku, as Kenjaku was currently using Geto Suguru's body, making it easier to search for Geto.

He then shared Geto Suguru's details and appearance with Kotoko Iwanaga.

Kotoko replied, "Got it. I'll have the yokai keep an eye out for him and notify you if they find anything."

"Thanks for the trouble."

Curious, Kotoko asked, "What did this guy do to cross you?"

Morpheus said, "He's the mastermind behind the lizard Hollows. I'm going to take him down."

Kotoko understood instantly why Morpheus was after him.

After ending the call, she rallied the yokai around her, instructing them to watch for a sorcerer in a kasaya with a stitch line on his forehead.

Geto Suguru.

The yokai around Kotoko weren't particularly powerful, but their numbers were vast.

Powerful yokai were rare.

Lesser yokai were the most common and numerous.

There's a human theory called the six degrees of separation: you're connected to anyone, even a world leader, through just six people.

The same applied to yokai.

Once Kotoko mobilized her yokai, word spread across Tokyo's yokai network that the Goddess of Wisdom was seeking a sorcerer named Geto Suguru.

Curiosity buzzed. Who was this Geto Suguru, and why did the Goddess of Wisdom want him?

With the yokai's numbers, it didn't take long for one to spot Geto Suguru.

His distinctive appearance—especially the stitch line on his forehead—made him stand out.

News of his sighting quickly reached Kotoko Iwanaga.

She immediately reported it to Morpheus.

"Lord Morpheus, the Geto Suguru you're looking for is in an apartment in Ginza, Tokyo."

Receiving the message, Morpheus stepped forward, teleporting to Ginza and locating the apartment Kotoko mentioned.

Unfortunately, Geto Suguru was no longer there.

Morpheus scanned the apartment, finding a cup on the coffee table. The water inside was still warm, indicating someone had been there recently.

It was likely Geto Suguru.

Or rather, Kenjaku.

Realizing yokai were watching him, Kenjaku had cautiously relocated.

A thousand-year-old onmyoji wouldn't have survived this long without such vigilance.

Morpheus cast a tracking spell, hoping to use the cup to locate Kenjaku.

But Kenjaku was meticulous, having used onmyoji techniques to erase all traces of his presence.

The tracking spell failed to find him.

Resigned, Morpheus sent Kotoko a message.

"He realized he was being watched and slipped away. He'll likely go deeper into hiding. Tell the yokai to keep their search discreet."

Kotoko nodded, acknowledging the instruction.

Then, Morpheus pulled out his Annihilation Maker ability, using his imagination to craft swarms of nano-surveillance bugs.

These were inspired by the AIM Diffusion Field from Toaruverse.

The AIM Diffusion Field was a surveillance tool used by Academy City's chairman, Aleister Crowley.

Made with cutting-edge nanotechnology, the parent units were only seventy nanometers in size, shaped like spheres with six metal filament-like cilia—three on each side.

They didn't move on the ground but floated in the air.

These tiny machines generated power from air currents, collecting data semi-permanently.

They transmitted quantum signals via linear electron beams, forming a unique network among the AIM Diffusion Field.
