Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: Daoist and Vixen

Oh, oh~!

The two chatted for a bit longer, and once most of what needed to be said had been covered, Jane Doe twitched her nose, her thin brows knitting deeply together.

"You smell like... a cat?"

As a Rat Thiren, Jane Doe disliked cats the most—along with nosy dogs.

"Uh..."

Arden thought for a moment. "My fiancée is a Tiger Thiren."

Felines were still cats, and with the two of them practically in zero-distance contact every day, it was perfectly normal for him to carry a faint orange-tabby scent.

"A fiancée... daoists can get married? Just like Yin Zhiping, huh!"

The last five words were spoken very softly by Jane Doe, but Arden still heard them.

Arden was utterly speechless.

It seemed Jane Doe was also a loyal viewer of Divine Tiger Companions, and her earlier prejudice probably wasn't due to repression at all, but rather her indignation toward Yin Zhiping.

Come to think of it, Yin Zhiping really was a fellow Daoist, and both the Quanzhen Sect and Yunxiao Mountain were renowned major sects.

One had to admit—Arden and Yin Zhiping shared quite a few similarities. (Not a joke)

"Ahem!"

Arden coughed to ease the awkwardness, then his gaze fell on one of Jane Doe's hands.

He noticed that one of her hands was wrapped in a plaster cast.

"Your hand—are you injured?"

"It's nothing. When you're undercover in a gang, getting hurt is unavoidable."

As she spoke, Jane Doe waved the hand without the cast dismissively. But seeing that Arden clearly didn't believe her, she immediately changed her tune. "Alright, fine—it's fake. Makes it easier to hide a transmitter."

"Uh... you really go all out."

After everything was wrapped up, Arden prepared to withdraw. "Be extra careful over there with the Axe Gang. I'm heading out!"

With that, Arden turned to leave.

However, just as he took a single step, Jane Doe suddenly grabbed him and yanked him into an extremely narrow alley—or rather, a crack between two walls.

The space here was incredibly tight, forcing Arden and Jane Doe to press closely against each other.

Arden questioned her with his eyes, and Jane Doe made a silencing gesture.

"Shhh~~!"

Huff... inhale...

The two fell silent. The street outside was eerily quiet, and all they could sense was each other's breathing.

Tap tap tap...

This situation didn't last long before the sound of footsteps came from outside.

Then came voices.

"That little bitch Jane—I definitely saw her... huh? Where'd she run off to?"

"Forget her! Just because Brother Kun favors her, she thinks she's hot stuff! Pah~~!"

"If you ask me, Brother Kun's just interested in her looks."

"Don't say that out loud. You know it too—no matter how pretty a woman is, Brother Kun wouldn't be interested."

"Mm... that's true."

The gossiping Axe Gang members' voices were clearly heard by both Jane Doe and Arden.

Inhale.

Arden took in a whiff of the fragrance drifting from Jane Doe. He had to admit—this "disguise" really was quite good.

"You think she's hiding somewhere to avoid us?"

The footsteps outside drew closer and closer.

The alley where Jane Doe and Arden were hiding was extremely narrow, but it was long enough, and the deeper it went, the darker it became.

So, to avoid being discovered, Arden decided to move further inside.

Rustle~!

He tried to shift inward, but movement caused friction—and friction caused something awkward...

Sensing it, Jane Doe shot Arden a fierce glare.

"Yin Zhiping, aren't you a Daoist? Hurry up and think of something!"

She didn't even bother pretending with how she addressed Arden anymore.

Still, her words snapped him out of the entropy-like atmosphere and back into calm focus.

"I'll need to borrow a bit of your blood."

Without waiting for her response, Arden placed his hand over the tear in her black stockings, lightly nicked it with his pinky nail, drew a trace of blood, and smeared it onto a talisman he had taken out with his other hand.

"Sorry!"

Ignoring Jane Doe's glare, Arden shifted again, adjusting his position so both hands could come together to form a hand seal.

This was definitely not him taking advantage of Jane Doe.

That said, her figure really was excellent—under his senses, it felt very full and substantial.

"Go!"

The talisman coated with Jane Doe's blood flew out, landing not far outside the street, where it transformed into a human silhouette.

"She's over there!"

"Why'd she run again?!"

"Quick, after her!"

Soon, the Axe Gang members chased after the "Jane Doe," disappearing at the end of the street.

After another bout of friction, Arden and Jane Doe finally squeezed their way out of the alley.

"Phew... finally out."

Arden let out a heavy breath. As a normal man, maintaining zero reaction during all that close contact with Jane Doe had been extremely difficult.

Jane Doe looked at Arden, her expression somewhat complicated.

Although this Daoist had plenty of crooked thoughts, the trick he used to lure away the Axe Gang members had been truly ingenious.

Alright, I should get going!

The talisman-created Jane Doe wouldn't last long, and once it disappeared, the Axe Gang members would definitely return. "Oh, right—take this."

Before leaving, Arden pulled out another talisman and handed it to Jane Doe.

"If you run into danger, drip a drop of blood on it. It might just save your life."

"Take care. Don't push yourself too hard."

With that, Arden turned and left.

Jane Doe glanced at the talisman in her hand, then looked up at Arden's departing figure, revealing her classic dazed expression.

"Arden Xu, huh... he's an interesting guy."

Sure enough, not long after Arden left, the Axe Gang members who had been lured away by the "Jane Doe" returned.

"Jane? You just now—"

"Why did you run earlier?"

The Axe Gang members ran into Jane Doe. She twirled a small knife in her hand, looking completely at ease, as if nothing had happened.

"Oh! Nothing much. I just ran into a lecher and went to teach him a lesson."

"A lecher?"

The small-time leaders of the Axe Gang circled Jane Doe, their leering eyes roaming up and down her body. "Hehehe, feeling lonely? If you're lonely, you can just tell us brothers—no need to look for some lecher."

The leering grin was full of ill intent. Brother Kun might not like women, but his subordinates certainly did.

Jane Doe wore a look of pure disgust. She'd rather keep rubbing against Arden than be stared at by these lowlifes.

No keep it together, this is for getting that bastard arrested!

Jane Doe mentally noted this debt.

"What, you guys want to be lechers too?"

Jane Doe flicked the knife in her hand, its cold glint flashing as her dangerous gaze swept over the Axe Gang members.

"N-no, no!"

They immediately backed down.

They knew Jane Doe's capabilities well—forcing the issue would only bring trouble upon themselves.
