Gabe blinked slowly, certain he must have misheard.
"…A what?"
"An Enigma," Alex repeated calmly, his voice steady and unhurried, as though he had all the time in the world.
Gabe stared at him. "What's that supposed to mean?" he demanded, confusion written plainly across his face.
Alex's expression remained serious...too serious to be a joke.
"It means I'm above the normal ranks in the ABO system," he explained evenly. "Higher than an Alpha."
Gabe let out a short, disbelieving laugh. He folded his arms across his chest, brows furrowing deeply.
Now what kind of nonsense is he spouting? he thought inwardly, scoffing. Has he finally lost it?
"Enigmas are rare," Alex continued, unfazed by Gabe's reaction. His gaze was sharp, observant, as if carefully measuring every shift in Gabe's expression. "We're not officially recorded in the systems. Not in hospital files, not in government registries. But we exist."
