I'd had enough.
Absolutely enough.
The moment the Luna left us in the room, Sonia stood there with her arms crossed, her lips curled in that smug little smirk, acting like I was the problem. Like saving her from Jane's wrath was a mistake.
The rage that had been simmering in me boiled over.
"You know what your problem is?" My voice snapped through the kitchen. I took a step closer, heat radiating off me. "You're ungrateful. That woman was about to rip you to shreds, and I stood between you and her. But no, you can't even choke out a thank you."
Her chin lifted, sharp and defiant. "I didn't ask for your help, Xavier. Did I?"
"Maybe you didn't," I hissed, leaning forward, "but you got it. And the way you keep running your mouth? Maybe you deserved to be slapped."
