The silence that followed Kaido's thunderous departure was first a sonic void, a brutal deafness after hours of cataclysm. Then, slowly, like a hesitant breath released after being held too long, Dressrosa began to stir with sound.

It wasn't immediate cheers of joy, but groans, creaks, and above all, the terrified, disbelieving murmurs of a population emerging from hell.

The faces of Dressrosa's people appeared, pale, eyes wide with a mix of shock and lingering terror.

They gazed at a transformed world. The northern coast was now a field of smoking craters, jagged cliffs, and rivers of molten rock frozen in monstrous shapes. The air, still thick with ozone and the acrid stench of burnt metal, hung heavy.

An old man touched a crack in a wall, his fingers trembling. "Is it… is it over?" His voice was a hoarse thread, carried by the relative quiet. "The monster… the dragon… it's gone?"

A woman, clutching two trembling, silent children to her chest, looked up at the sky where the black, lightning-charged clouds had dissipated with Kaido. Silent tears carved clean tracks down her dirt-streaked cheeks. "The sky was falling… the earth shook like it would tear apart…"

Near a tavern, a group of younger men—dockworkers or merchants, their gazes still dazed—stared at the ravaged horizon. "The swordsman pirate…" one dared to say, his voice laced with reverent fear. "He… he stood up to the monster. He made it retreat."

"He made it flee!" A louder voice, brimming with incredulous hope, rang out. "He drove it away! The swordsman pirate saved Dressrosa!"

The claim, repeated, amplified, took on a cathartic power. It wasn't yet joy, but a relief so profound it swelled into a rising clamor—a mix of sobs, hoarse shouts, and stammered thanks aimed at an empty sky.

In the royal palace gardens, King Riku Doldo III, Violet, Kyros, and Rebecca stood together. The tension that had stiffened their shoulders since the battle's start began to ease, giving way to stunned awe.

"By all the gods of the sea…" Riku breathed, wiping his brow with a trembling hand. His crown sat crooked, his cloak dusted with grime. "I never would've believed… never imagined such a battle was possible. That two beings could unleash such power."

Kyros, his sword still sheathed but his stance that of a warrior on guard, nodded slowly, his stone-like face etched with deep gravity. "Kaido… the 'World's Strongest Creature'… He was forced to leave the battlefield. Dracule Mihawk…" He shook his head, at a loss for words to describe the feat. "Rebecca." He placed a heavy hand on his daughter's shoulder. "Today, you've seen the chasm that separates us from such a level. It was sheer madness to challenge him."

Rebecca, her face still pale but her eyes gleaming with boundless admiration, clutched her small shield tightly. "He protected everyone, Papa… Without him…" She didn't finish, the horror of the alternative too clear.

Violet, her beautiful face taut, spoke up. "The joy is premature," she said, her clear voice cutting through the budding emotion.

The air turned icy again. "The Marines," Kyros growled, his fist tightening on his sword's hilt.

Riku paled further. "After such a cataclysm… will Dressrosa have to become a battlefield again?" A deep weariness settled over him.

In a high chamber of the royal palace,

"YAHOOOOO!" Korran leaped like a wild goat, unable to contain his elation. He waved a bottle of wine from the cellar like a trophy. "Did you see that?! DID YOU SEE THAT?! The Captain! He beat Kaido! The strongest! The King of Swordsmen is the strongest!"

Perona, floating near a shattered window overlooking a fraction of the devastation, spun around sharply, her cheeks puffed with anger. "Are you completely stupid, you scruffy bear?!" she hissed, her usual negative ghost hovering menacingly above Korran. "He didn't beat him! He pushed him back! There's a huge difference, as thick as your skull! It'll be a miracle if he's still breathing!"

Korran pouted, lowering his bottle slightly. "Pushed back, beaten… same difference for the result! Kaido's gone, that's what matters! And the Captain, he's tough!"

"Tough?" Perona crossed her arms, turning her back on Korran. "Always throwing himself into the lion's den, playing with limits like it's a game! Does he think he's immortal?"

Kiku, who had watched the exchange silently, leaning against a cracked wall, spoke up, her voice soft but firm. "Whether he defeated or repelled him, the truth lies elsewhere, Perona-san." Her usually serene eyes held a new gravity. "He protected. This island. Its people. Without his intervention, Dressrosa would be nothing but a smoking memory on naval charts. And Kaido…" She shivered slightly. "…would've spared no one."

Perona stayed turned away, but her shoulders relaxed ever so slightly.

At the heart of the deepest crater, where the ground was still warm and faintly smoking, where the unleashed energy of Kings had dissipated like a final sigh, Mihawk lay motionless, his forehead against Yoru's cold hilt. His cloak was torn, his shirt in blood-soaked, ash-stained tatters. Dust clung to his pale face, streaked with crimson trails of his blood.

Then, a movement. Faint at first. A slight twitch of the fingers on his right hand, still gripping the sword's hilt. Then a deeper breath, a rasp turning into a sudden, powerful inhale, as if an engine roared back to life after a long stall. His eyelids snapped open.

His golden eyes, clear, piercing, free of blood or tears, fixed on the gray sky above. No pain clouded them. No apparent fatigue weighed his features. He was simply… there. Intact. As if the final collapse, the gaping wounds, the excruciating pain had been a bad dream.

A deep surprise flickered in his gaze. He lifted his head, pulling his forehead from Yoru, and glanced at his body. No more deep gashes, no broken ribs beneath his skin, no trace of the mortal weakness that had felled him. Only his tattered shirt and the dust bore witness to the battle.

He turned his head slightly.

Beside him, seated on a barely cooled stone, Masherry watched him with a mix of extreme exhaustion and quiet satisfaction. Her small arms were crossed over her knees, her face pale and drawn, her eyes ringed with dark circles. The flowers that usually adorned her hair were wilted. The vital energy she'd poured into his restoration—and now his recovery—was immense.

"You've come back to your senses, Mihawkland," she said simply, her voice soft but hoarse from effort.

Mihawk rose slowly to one knee, then stood in a fluid motion. He looked down at the tiny princess, his gaze probing. "Princess Masherry," he acknowledged, his voice as steady and deep as ever, showing no trace of his recent exhaustion. "Your power… it's as remarkable as they say."

A faint, tired smile touched Masherry's lips. "Peronaland… she was very insistent. Very… loud." She mimicked the spectral's whiny tone vaguely. "She begged me to come. Said her 'Grumpy Captain' would get washed away by a big lizard if he didn't get healed." She looked down at her hands.

Mihawk tilted his head slightly, a rare sign of deep attention. "You owe me nothing. Nothing compelled you to come here."

Masherry raised her eyes to him. "Maybe. But I came of my own will, Mihawklàd. Not out of debt. I understand the weight you carry. I, too, am a leader. I am the Princess of Tontatta. My people rely on me, just as…" She gestured vaguely toward distant Dressrosa. "…many seem to rely on you today. Protecting, healing… sometimes, it's just what we do. Because we can't do otherwise. Because the world needs someone to do it." She held his golden gaze without faltering. "You faced the dragon for them. The least I could do was get you back on your feet."

A heavy silence settled.

Then, without another word, Mihawk turned. His broad, powerful right hand closed around Yoru's black scabbard, still buried in the smoking ground. He pulled it free in a fluid motion, as if it weighed no more than a feather. The blade rested on his right shoulder.

He cast a final glance toward the southern horizon. His eyes hardened.

"Princess Masherry," he said, turning slightly toward her without fully looking. "You must rest now. I'd hate to see someone I saved perish."

Then he began a slow, relentless march out of the crater, his boots crushing the still-warm slag silently.

"As for me, it's time to secure this country."
