The silence that followed Mihawk's declaration was heavier than the roars that came before.

The air itself seemed to solidify, charged with raw energy.

Kaido, despite his bleeding wounds, wore a ferocious grin, his gaze locked on the unmoving swordsman, Yoru buried deep in the smoking ground to his left.

"Worororo! Finally!" Kaido growled, his azure scales quivering with anticipation. "Show me! Show me what makes you think you can claim the crown!"

Mihawk didn't answer. His golden eyes, glowing with an otherworldly light, stayed fixed on Kaido. He didn't assume a traditional stance. He simply raised his right hand slightly, palm open, as if brushing the air before him.

Kaido charged. An avalanche of muscle and scales, the Hassaikai swung in a devastating diagonal strike meant to crush Mihawk.

The sheer force tore through the atmosphere, leaving a wake of vacuum behind the weapon.

Mihawk didn't move an inch. His right hand made an imperceptible motion, a mere graze of the space in front of him.

Schlik.

The sound was clean, impossibly precise, like the thinnest sheet of paper sliced by a razor.

Kaido's massive right arm, clad in scales fortified by defensive Haki that could withstand a naval bombardment, severed cleanly just above the elbow.

Kaido froze. No scream, no roar. Only deep surprise, almost incomprehension, flashed across his bestial gaze. He looked down at his stump. Purple blood gushed in a steady stream, hissing as it splattered the molten pebbles. The cut was perfect, smooth, as if flesh, bone, and scales had never existed there.

He raised his head, studying Mihawk with a new intensity, stripped of his usual rage, replaced by raw curiosity.

Before he could react, the air hummed again. A sensation of mortal danger, sharper than anything he'd ever felt, pricked the back of his neck. Pure instinct, honed by countless near-death battles, made him raise his remaining left arm. He pivoted slightly, tucking his right stump against his chest and crossing the Hassaikai—snatched midair by his tail in an incredible reflex—before his throat.

CLANG!

A piercing metallic clash rang out. A white spark flared in the empty air at neck level, where nothing was visible. Kaido felt the monstrous impact ripple through his club, vibrating his bones to their core.

He had parried. Parried the invisible. But at what cost? The force of the blow pushed him back two heavy steps.

His gaze, still fixed on Mihawk, turned fiercely analytical. The swordsman hadn't moved. Not a muscle had twitched. His right hand remained raised, palm open, in an almost relaxed pose. Only his eyes, those twin golden suns, burned with absolute focus. Yoru stood idle in the ground, a mere bystander.

"What… what is this?!" Kaido growled, his hoarse voice betraying rare confusion. He'd nearly lost his head. The attack came from nowhere, without motion, without a visible blade. "You're not even moving! Your sword's right there!"

Mihawk gave a faint smile, a trickle of blood seeping from the corner of his lips.

"You are Kaido," Mihawk said, his words slicing through the heavy air like blades. "The 'World's Strongest Creature.' A force of nature incarnate. Your power is raw, overwhelming, untamed. It defies physical limits, defies death itself." He paused, his golden eyes intensifying. "I am Dracule Mihawk. The world's greatest swordsman."

He lifted his right hand's fingers slightly. A shiver ran through the space between them.

"Your strength lies in flesh and dragon's breath," he continued, his tone sharpening like Yoru. "Mine lies in understanding. Understanding the blade. The space. The void between all things."

He gestured vaguely at the air around him.

"The blade you parried? It wasn't 'invisible.' It was simply… elsewhere. An extension of my will, cutting the void where my mind placed it. Yoru is my sword. But it's only a vessel. The true blade… is me. And my will can cleave space itself."

The revelation hit Kaido like a physical blow. His eyes widened slightly, then a glint of wild, almost respectful understanding sparked within them. "Wororo…" A low laugh, different, rumbled from his throat. Not his usual defiant or destructive laugh, but one of brutal awe. "I… see. You cut… the world itself. Not just flesh."

A renewed ferocity ignited his gaze. "Worthy!" he roared suddenly, the sound shaking the gutted cliffs. "You are worthy, Mihawk! Worthy of me, Kaido, seeing you as a contender for the crown!"

Then his expression hardened, a shadow of disappointment crossing his monstrous face. "But… you're still green. New to this path…"

As if to punctuate his words, a stream of scarlet blood burst from Mihawk's left eye, tracing a vivid line down his pale cheek. He didn't flinch, but a faint tension tightened his clenched jaw.

Kaido saw the blood.

"WORORORO!" His laugh thundered again.

He stepped back, his purple blood pooling on the ground. Then the air around him began to warp, vibrating with primal energy. His azure scales gleamed with an unearthly glow, his already colossal form seeming to expand, stretch. His horns lengthened, his tail became a titanic serpent, and a blast of searing wind swept the battlefield. In seconds, the hybrid form vanished, replaced by the full celestial dragon, a true azure dragon god whose mere presence crushed the space, casting a menacing shadow over the smoking ruins of the northern coast.

The dragon, towering, turned its massive head toward Mihawk, fixing on the swordsman who still stood, hand raised, Yoru planted beside him, blood streaming from his eye and lips.

"Our next meeting," the dragon's voice rumbled, shaking the earth like a quake, "will be different, King of Swordsmen. Survive until then."

Without another word, a hurricane erupted, lifting waves of molten stone and dust, darkening the already torn sky. Then, with a force that rattled Dressrosa's foundations, Kaido soared into the shredded heavens, piercing the lightning-charged black clouds, leaving behind a trail of scorching wind and the sudden, deafening silence of a ravaged battlefield.

Mihawk stood motionless for a long moment, his raised arm now visibly trembling. The dome of Conqueror's Haki over the island faded slowly, like a bubble bursting soundlessly. Then, at last, he lowered his hand.

The sound he made wasn't a sigh but a hoarse rasp, a noise of deep suffering torn from his shattered chest. His knees buckled. He dropped heavily to one knee, his free hand clutching desperately at Yoru's hilt, still planted, to keep from collapsing entirely. Blood now flowed freely from both eyes, mingling with that from his lips, carving crimson streaks across his pale, dust-caked face. His entire body shook, wracked by the superhuman effort and accumulated wounds.

Around him, there was only desolation: the smoking central crater, glowing lava streams, ruined cliffs, the acrid stench of ozone, blood, and scorched stone.

Mihawk raised his head with effort, his blood-veiled but still piercing golden eyes fixed on the sky where Kaido had vanished. A twisted smile, laced with pain and fierce determination, curled his bloodied lips.

"Of course we'll meet again…" he murmured, his voice a mere hoarse whisper. Then his eyes closed, and he slumped forward, unconscious, his forehead resting against Yoru's cold hilt, the sole anchor in a world that had nearly been destroyed.
