Scott turned off his car engine, but remained seated, trying to gather his thoughts. The dim light of the parking lot cast a gloomy shadow on his face, mirroring the turmoil brewing inside him. He had stopped by a bar on the way home, attempting to drown his sorrows, but the whiskey hadn't helped. His mind kept drifting back to Lily, alone in that place, and the weight of his decision to leave her there. As he stepped out of the car, his legs wivered, and he stumbled. The cool night air did little to clear his head. He trudged towards the elevator, his feet heavy with reluctance. The doors slid open, and he entered, leaning against the mirrored wall as it ascended to his floor.
