Chapter 105 - Chapter 22: Refinement

Gosui was a medicine that could kill a person within minutes of ingestion.

In Vivi's eyes, it was an extremely dangerous substance.

Unless it was a last resort, no one would ever consider using it.

The Alabasta Kingdom tightly controlled Gosui.

Aside from the royal family, it was almost nonexistent on the market.

Vivi had never mentioned it to Emiya.

Yet he knew about it anyway.

That alone surprised her.

But what confused her even more was this-

If he knew how dangerous Gosui was, why did he still want it?

Could it be...?

Vivi suddenly recalled how Emiya had created a flawless Devil Fruit.

When she voiced her suspicion, Emiya answered directly.

"I think this thing has a lot of potential. I want to improve it."

Princess Vivi was about to agree.

Then she remembered something important.

Before Emiya could improve a Devil Fruit, he had to eat it and personally experience its effects.

If Gosui worked the same way, the risk was obvious.

Very obvious.

Could it be that Lord Emiya didn't understand Gosui's side effects?

She immediately explained the flaws of Gosui in detail.

Emiya just smiled.

"Don't worry. I'm not that reckless. I know its drawbacks."

"And I'm confident."

Seeing his calm expression, Vivi's doubts eased.

She nodded.

"Alright, Lord Emiya. I'll have the Gosui and its formula delivered immediately."

After the discussion ended, Shizuka couldn't help asking,

"I told you to make a stamina-boosting potion, and you go straight for Gosui? Even the Energy Steroid from Fish-Man Island is stronger than that. Gosui will kill people."

"Fish-Man Island is a hassle," Emiya replied. "Gosui is easy to get."

"And I'll just fix the side effects. It won't kill anyone."

"You know medicine now?"

"I don't," Emiya said calmly. "But someone does."

"Who?"

"Dr. Kureha."

Shizuka immediately understood.

Dr. Kureha.

Chopper's master.

A legendary doctor from Drum Island.

Her medical skill was terrifyingly high-higher than Chopper's.

And despite being 139 years old, she was absurdly strong.

Strong enough to kick through a wall.

"I remember she's very difficult," Shizuka said.

"Don't worry," Emiya replied. "I can persuade her."

In Emiya's view, no matter how troublesome someone was, as long as they were human, they had desires.

And desires could be met.

Shizuka thought the same and stopped arguing.

"I understand. I wish you luck."

"I won't need it," Emiya said, confident.

After breakfast, Emiya obtained both the finished Gosui and its formula.

When Loki heard about it, she clapped Emiya on the shoulder.

"Go for it. If it fails, you can always go to Miach."

Miach.

The head god of the Miach Familia.

A gentle, noble-looking god who ran the apothecary Heavenly Blue.

The shop was small, but the potions were genuine.

Miach was an expert in medicine and alchemy.

If Emiya asked him for help, success would be guaranteed.

Emiya kept that in mind.

If Dr. Kureha truly couldn't refine Gosui, he would have no choice.

But the price would be high.

Possibly even owing a favor.

So unless absolutely necessary, he didn't want to go that route.

After securing the Gosui, Emiya requested an Eternal Pose to Drum Island from Vivi.

Then he set off alone.

Loki stayed behind to collect Den Den Mushi.

Shizuka wanted to continue practicing Fish-Man Karate.

Robin and Issho weren't close to Emiya, and since they didn't offer, he didn't invite them.

In the end, Emiya departed by himself.

He lifted his body with Psychic power and flew toward Drum Island.

At moments like this, the difference between him and Loki was obvious.

Both could fly.

But Loki could easily break the sound barrier, even reaching dozens of times the speed of sound.

Emiya couldn't.

His limit was just under supersonic speed.

He departed in the morning.

By the time he arrived at Drum Island, it was already close to noon.

The weather was terrible.

Snow and ice covered everything.

Huge snowflakes fell from the sky, and the wind cut to the bone.

Emiya raised a Psychic barrier, blocking the cold, and quickly located Dr. Kureha's home.

It wasn't hard.

A fairytale-like castle perched atop a mountain.

After entering, Emiya spoke loudly.

"Is Dr. Kureha home? I've come to ask for your help."

His voice echoed through the empty halls.

A moment later, a childish voice came from somewhere within the castle.

"Wh-who are you?"

He heard the voice.

But saw no one.

Still, Emiya already knew.

"You're Chopper, right?"

The voice vanished.

A few seconds passed.

Then it returned, hesitant.

"Y-you... know me?"

"You could say that," Emiya replied. "The reindeer living with Dr. Kureha is quite famous."

"You can talk because you ate the Hito Hito no Mi. Right?"

"...Y-yes."

Realizing he had been exposed, Chopper stopped hiding.

He slowly stepped out from the shadows.

Even so, he kept his eyes on the floor.

Not out of fear.

Out of shyness.

"What do you want to see Dr. Kureha for?" Chopper asked, mustering his courage.

"I want her help improving a medicine," Emiya said. "The price is negotiable."

Chopper looked at him seriously.

Then nodded.

"Follow me."

"Thank you."

Chopper turned and walked deeper into the castle.

Emiya followed closely.

They climbed several flights of stairs and passed through a few corridors.

Chopper stopped in front of a pair of double doors.

He pushed them open.

"Doctorine," Chopper called. "Someone's here to see you."

Emiya stepped inside.

The room was enormous.

A bedroom converted into a laboratory.

Beakers.

Test tubes.

All kinds of equipment.

Bookshelves lined the walls, packed with medical texts.

A fireplace blazed against one wall.

And the cold outside stayed far away.
