Chapter 44: Woe, Oh Seer of Prophecy.

~~~ [START]
"Fucking hackers," Ash could only whisper as he leaned back on the sofa, throwing the joystick behind him. He stared at the ceiling for a while, his thoughts still contemplating how he was going to complete the video he was planning to make for his new GTA gameplay YouTube channel.
KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!
Bangs on the door caught his attention, so he got up, made his way to it, and opened it.
THUD!
"Wednesday?" he said, one brow raising. "What are…"
"My family wants to see you." She stepped in, eyes turning to the room's interior, her expression, although unreactive, holding an ounce of judgment.
"Family?" Ash's eye, which was raising its brow, nearly exploded at her words. "Family… what?"
"They asked me to bring you." She finished, moving to his side of the room. Although the room's color disgusted her, Ash's bedsheets and most of his belongings were pitch black, which in some way reminded her of home.
"Yeah… I don't know about that," Ash said nervously, moving to Xavier's side, turning off the console, then placing everything, from the cables to the joysticks, neatly where they belonged.
"I wasn't asking."
"I know," he weakly shot back, unintentionally yawning as he turned to her. "And I mean, don't you think it's a bit too early to introduce me to them? 'Cause I already met your grandma and… no offence, but she was too weird for my liking."
He smiled as he spoke, but then choked on his giggles, noting the narrowing of her eyes as he did that.
"Then tell me." She suddenly cut in, eyes fixing themselves onto him.
"Tell you what..?"
"You killed ten people," she cut again, completely silencing him. "All of whom were vampires. So, either the entire world is lying about how strong a vampire is… or you are."
{ELSEWHERE}
THUD!
The door of a wrecked boat swung open, revealing the figure of an old man whose face was overwhelmed by hanging skin.
The old man walked forward, steps steady and visibly unaffected by the darkness and the outside ocean that kept ramming against its walls.
"How dare you hide your face from me, you hybrid," the old man said, voice as low as a whisper, yet still holding some ancient, unquestionable conviction.
The mirror, the one he was looking at, suddenly shook unnaturally.
And on its front, right where Morthos's reflection should have been, smoke started rising; thick enough that one would consider it to be smoke mimicking clouds.
"You…"
A creature emerged from behind it, not daring to even whisper his name.
It was a sea creature, its entire body covered in scales and patches of gills, with half of its upper body slightly resembling that of a woman, and the lower part a mix of colors from various fish.
Morthos stepped closer, his pitch-black robe moving atop the rotting wooden floor as he approached.
"You… you… you should be dead…"
"Speak." Morthos cut its constant pestering, stopping and standing five feet apart from where the mirror was stationed.
The creature frowned at his words, the reflection of the ocean it was swimming in reacting violently with each of its movements.
"Your price is insufficient," it said, a smile spreading across its lips, revealing sharpened teeth.
Morthos only stepped forward again, his eyes drifting onto its own.
"Speak, and I might offer you your life."
Its eyes widened at his words, heart nearly skipping.
"Speak, and I just might spare you."
And from nowhere, not triggered by anything, the mirror slowly started to crack.
"I know nothing…" The creature was nearly finished, but as quick as lightning, half the mirror began to shatter, instantly forming a thousand lines of cracks.
"Lie to me again, and your dome will turn into a billion scatters."
"Wait!" the creature suddenly broke. Its voice screamed, its arms already raised, as it banged the mirror from the other end. "Wait… I know, I know… the immortal; the boy, that's who they wanted to capture… they… they wanted to capture him!"
"Enlighten me with what I don't know," Morthos said, hands moving behind him. "Tell me what they don't want me to hear."
The creature thought for a second; time was running out.
"The altar!" Its words bloated in the last seconds, right as the mirror was about to shatter completely. "Yes, the altar; the Altar of Cain, they… they need his blood to open it!"
Morthos suddenly smiled, head slightly shaking.
Then the mirror, the one that had stopped creaking, proceeded to shatter, dropping piece by piece to the ground, causing the creature's eyes to widen.
"You lied!" it shouted at the peak of its voice, arms banging the mirror from the other side. "You lied to me! Where is your offer?! Where is your pride?!"
DOOM!
The mirror shattered into shards.
But even then, Morthos didn't blink or move. The glass didn't even touch a single part of his clothes.
Then he turned and started walking toward the door he had swung open to enter.
"Your words were insufficient," he taunted with a whisper. "Sirens be damned."
He didn't look back; he never wondered what it looked like.
Because in the next second, fire engulfed the boat's wooden walls, slowly burning the little pieces of evidence that were left to complete shreds.
Burning an abomination who spoke prophecy against an ancient bloodline: one that would ruin everything… or maybe start fresh when all reaches the end.
Armageddon.
{ELSEWHERE}
"So, it's like magic."
"What?" Ash raised both brows at Wednesday's words. "Magic… what are you talking about?"
"Don't gaslight me."
"Bro… I'm not, it's just…" Ash scratched the top of his head. "It's like a porcupine, or… the shell of a turtle. Not… magic."
He nearly laughed at the narrowing of her eyes.
"Look, all I can tell you is that it's something I have, which helps me protect myself."
"If that's the case, then why keep it a secret?"
"No, I just can't tell you." Ash stood up, grabbing his black blazer, which was hanging on the sofa's upper part. "I mean… think about it. If a bee knew it dies when it stings you, would it ever sting you?"
"So it doesn't work if you tell me."
"No… stop calculating everything, that was just an example." Ash moved toward the door, opened it, then turned to Wednesday, who was still sitting atop his bed.
"If you wanted to Netflix and chill, you could have just mentioned it…" he tried to taunt, his hand nearly closing the door he had opened.
Until Wednesday stood up, moving quickly and walking out the door before it was even close to shut.
This caused Ash, who witnessed everything, to laugh as he also made his way behind her.
