Chapter 189 Warm Brother and Sister
Hans also nodded in agreement, "Right! We must go all out to track down his whereabouts!"
So the two began to divide their work: Lynn was responsible for communicating with the laboratory to get more clues about the drugs; while Hans was responsible for investigating Ward's possible hiding places and his connections with other gang organizations. Both were determined to bring Ward to justice.
The next day, sunlight streamed through the gaps in the curtains, dappling Lynn's bedside. He rubbed his sleepy eyes, picked up his phone, and checked the time. It was already close to noon. Just then, a message popped up on his phone screen from his adoptive father, George: "Lynn, come home for dinner today, there's something I need to discuss with you."
Lynn frowned, a strange premonition rising in his heart. He quickly replied with a message: "Okay, I'll be right back." Then he got up, washed, changed into clean clothes, and drove to George's house.
Along the way, Lynn's thoughts raced. He didn't know why George suddenly wanted him to come home for dinner, but his intuition told him that this meal wouldn't be so simple. He thought of the Ward case he was currently investigating and couldn't help but worry: Could there be new clues in the case that required him to come home to discuss a strategy?
When Lynn arrived at George's house, he found the atmosphere somewhat unusual. His sister, Gwen, stood at the door, her face beaming with a mysterious smile, while George was busy in the kitchen, the clatter of pots and pans occasionally heard.
"Lynn, you're back!" Gwen came forward, took his hand, and led him into the living room, "Come and sit down, there's a surprise waiting for you!"
Lynn sat down on the sofa, puzzled, and looked around. He noticed that the living room's decor was different from usual; the balloons and streamers hanging on the wall made him realize that today seemed to be a special day.
"What kind of surprise is it?" He couldn't help but ask.
"Don't rush, it's coming soon." Gwen smiled mysteriously and turned to walk into the kitchen.
A moment later, George walked out carrying a large platter with a beautiful cake on it. Several candles were lit on the cake, their flickering flames illuminating the words "Happy Birthday" on the cake.
Lynn froze, only then realizing that today was his birthday. He looked at George and Gwen, and a warm feeling surged in his heart. On this special day, being able to celebrate with his family was a rare happiness for him.
"Make a wish quickly!" Gwen urged.
Lynn nodded, closed his eyes, and silently made his birthday wish. Then, he took a deep breath and blew out the candles on the cake.
"Happy Birthday!" George and Gwen said in unison, and applause and laughter echoed in the living room.
However, just at this warm moment, Lynn's phone suddenly rang. He glanced at the screen; it was a call from his colleague, Hans. He hesitated for a moment but still answered the call.
"Lynn, where are you? We just received news that Ward has appeared!" Hans's voice was urgent and tense.
Lynn's heart sank. He looked at the cake and his family in front of him, his heart filled with conflict and struggle. He knew that leaving at this moment would be hurtful to his family, but as an FBI Agent, he couldn't miss any opportunity to apprehend Ward.
"I… I'll be right back." Lynn uttered these words with difficulty, then hung up the phone.
"What happened?" George keenly sensed Lynn's abnormality.
Lynn sighed and told George and Gwen the news of Ward's appearance. He explained, "I can't miss this opportunity; I must go back immediately."
George was silent for a moment, then patted Lynn's shoulder, "Go, my boy. Your duty is important, and we understand you."
Gwen also nodded, "Brother, be careful!"
When Lynn returned to George's house, it was already late at night. He found the lights in the house still on, a pair of slippers at the door, and a dinner left for him. He walked into the living room and saw George and Gwensitting on the sofa, waiting for him.
"You're back!" Gwen spoke first, "We were waiting to celebrate your birthday together!"
Lynn was moved to tears. He walked over and tightly hugged George and Gwen, "Thank you, it's so good to have you."
The lingering glow of the sunset spilled into the cozy living room. Gwen sat on the sofa, flipping through the school's anniversary celebration brochure, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. Lynn was busy at the nearby coffee table, organizing his recent work documents.
"Lynn, are you free tomorrow?" Gwen looked up at Lynn, her voice tinged with hope.
Lynn stopped what he was doing, turned around, and smiled gently, "What is it, Gwen? Is there something tomorrow?"
Gwen stood up, walked to Lynn, and handed him the brochure, "Look, tomorrow is our school's anniversary celebration. There will be many interesting activities and performances. Can you come with me?"
Lynn took the brochure and scanned the colorful activity schedule, feeling a little hesitant. His work had been very busy recently, and the case he was handling had reached a critical point. He had originally planned to work overtime tomorrow. But seeing Gwen's expectant eyes, he didn't want to disappoint her.
"Hmm… I'll try to arrange my time." Lynn said vaguely, trying to leave himself some room to maneuver.
However, Gwen keenly caught the hesitation in his tone, "Is something going on with you? If you're really busy, then forget it…" Her voice carried a hint of disappointment.
Seeing this, Lynn's heart softened. He reached out and gently patted Gwen's shoulder, "Don't overthink it, I just need to adjust my work schedule a bit. Your school anniversary is so important; how could I miss it?"
Upon hearing this, Gwen's eyes immediately lit up, "Really? You'll really come with me?"
"Of course, when have I ever lied to you?" Lynn smiled and nodded in confirmation.
Gwen jumped up happily. She hugged Lynn and said excitedly, "That's great! Thank you, Lynn!"
On the day of the school anniversary, the sun was bright, and the school was bustling. Lynn accompanied Gwen as they strolled through the crowded campus, feeling the joyful atmosphere of the festival. Both of them held some small trinkets they had just picked up at a stall.
"Gwen, do you think this looks good?" Lynn held up a delicate small ornament and dangled it in front of Gwen.
Gwen took the ornament and examined it carefully, "Hmm, it's very cute! It matches your temperament well." She said with a teasing smile.
The two chatted and laughed, arriving at a snack stall. Various tempting aromas wafted towards them, making their mouths water.
"Wow, it smells so good! Let's buy something to eat." Gwen's eyes lit up, and she pulled Lynn's arm, pulling him towards the stall.
Lynn smiled and nodded, "Okay, let's see what's good to eat."
Just as the two were choosing food, a tall, handsome boy walked over. His gaze was fixed on Gwen, and a confident smile played on his lips.
"Hi, beauty, are you alone?" The boy initiated the conversation.
Gwen froze for a moment, looked up at the boy in front of her, then glanced at Lynn beside her, a hint of awkwardness flashing in her eyes. Before she could speak, Lynn had already stepped in front of her.
"She's not alone." Lynn said indifferently, a hint of vigilance in his eyes.
The boy sized up Lynn, seemingly not putting him in his eyes, "Oh? Are you her boyfriend?"
"That's not important." Lynn's tone was somewhat cold, "We are currently enjoying the school anniversary and do not wish to be disturbed."
The boy smiled, seemingly not intending to give up, "It's okay, I just wanted to get to know this beauty. You're not that petty, are you?"
Lynn's brows furrowed slightly. He could feel the boy's harassment towards Gwen, and he couldn't help but feel a little annoyed. He was about to retort but was gently pulled by Gwen's sleeve.
"Lynn, let it go." Gwen whispered, "Let's just ignore him."
Lynn glanced at Gwen, saw that she didn't want to get entangled with this boy, and nodded, "Okay, let's go."
However, just as the two turned to leave, the boy suddenly reached out and grabbed Gwen's arm, "Hey, beauty, don't be in such a hurry to leave. I haven't introduced myself yet. My name is Jack, and I'm the Captain of the school basketball team."
Gwen was startled by the boy's actions; she struggled to free herself from his grip, but he held on even tighter.
Seeing this, Lynn immediately stepped forward, grabbed the boy's wrist, and said in a cold tone, "Let her go."
The boy was surprised, not expecting Lynn to suddenly intervene.
He stared at Lynn with wide eyes, "What are you doing? I just wanted to get to know her."
"She doesn't want to know you," Lynn's tone was firm, "Now, please let her go."
The boy's expression turned somewhat unpleasant, and he didn't seem to want to give up just like that.
But looking at Lynn's firm gaze and his tightly gripped wrist, he finally let go.
"Alright, since you don't want to get acquainted, I won't bother you," the boy said, then turned and left the stall.
Lynn watched the boy's retreating back, a hint of coldness flashing in his eyes.
He turned around and looked at Gwen, "Are you alright?"
Gwen shook her head, "I'm fine.
Thank you, Lynn."
"Don't mention it," Lynn said, "Let's continue choosing what to eat."
The two returned to the stall and continued to pick out food.
However, the small incident just now had somewhat affected their mood.
Gwen couldn't help but sigh, "Oh, it was supposed to be a good school anniversary, but I didn't expect to encounter something like this."
Lynn, however, smiled, "It's okay, with me here, you won't get hurt at all."
He said, handing the food in his hand to Gwen, "Try this, it should taste good."
Although an unpleasant incident occurred, with Lynn by her side, Gwen's mood gradually improved.
They continued to stroll around the school anniversary, enjoying this special day.
Soon after, the two walked to a stall selling handmade crafts.
Gwen's eyes were drawn to some exquisite small ornaments.
"Wow, these accessories are so beautiful!" she said excitedly, pointing to some earrings and bracelets.
Lynn glanced at the accessories; they were indeed very delicate and pretty.
He smiled and said to Gwen, "If you like them, buy them."
Gwen nodded and began to carefully select.
Just then, Jack, the boy who had approached them earlier, reappeared in their sight.
This time, he didn't directly approach them but stood far away, observing them.
Lynn noticed Jack's presence and frowned slightly.
He didn't want any more trouble on this special day.
So he took Gwen's hand, "Let's go."
Gwen looked at Lynn with some confusion, "What's wrong? I haven't finished choosing yet."
"Nothing, I suddenly remembered I have something else to do," Lynn casually made up an excuse, "We'll buy it next time."
With that, he pulled Gwen away from the stall.
Seeing this, Jack had no choice but to turn and leave.
Lynn secretly breathed a sigh of relief, hoping this small incident wouldn't affect their mood today.
The two held hands and continued to stroll around the school anniversary, enjoying this rare happy time.
And that unpleasant interlude was gradually forgotten, leaving only beautiful memories.
As night fell and the streetlights came on, Lynn and Gwen ended their joyful time at the school anniversary, taking with them a day full of memories and a little fatigue, as they embarked on their way home.
The two walked and chatted, Gwen's face beaming with a happy smile, while Lynn occasionally turned his head to look at her with gentle eyes.
"Lynn, today was so much fun!" Gwen said excitedly, "Thank you for always being with me."
"Silly girl, why are you being so polite with me?" Lynnsmiled and ruffled Gwen's hair, "As long as you're happy, I'm willing to do anything."
As they talked and laughed, they unknowingly walked into a relatively secluded alley.
The alley was dimly lit, with only a few dilapidated streetlights flickering with faint light.
Lynn instinctively tightened his grip on Gwen's hand, vigilantly looking around.
Suddenly, a rapid sound of footsteps came from behind them, and Lynn and Gwen simultaneously turned their heads, only to see three figures rapidly approaching them.
The three wore hats and masks over their faces, revealing only pairs of fierce eyes.
"Run!" Lynn whispered to Gwen, pulling her to quicken their pace.
However, the three were clearly prepared; they quickly caught up and blocked Lynn and Gwen in the middle of the road.
One of them held a gleaming dagger, staring at them menacingly.
"Kid, hand over the money if you know what's good for you!" one of them threatened, "Otherwise, don't blame us for being impolite!"
Lynn coldly looked at the three in front of him, quickly making a judgment in his mind.
He knew he couldn't let Gwen get hurt, so he let go of Gwen's hand and softly said, "Gwen, stay here and don't move, I'll deal with them quickly."
After speaking, Lynn walked towards the three.
He was agile in body and quick in movement, and in a blink of an eye, he was entangled in a fight with the three.
Although the three were armed with dangerous weapons, Lynn showed no fear; he skillfully dodged their attacks while looking for opportunities to counterattack.
Gwen stood to the side, nervously watching the fight.
Although she knew Lynn was very capable, seeing him fight three knife-wielding thugs, she couldn't help but feel worried.
She tightly clenched her fists, silently praying for Lynn.
After a fierce battle, Lynn finally subdued the three one by one.
He walked to Gwen's side and asked with concern, "Are you alright?"
Gwen shook her head, her eyes sparkling with admiration, "Lynn, you're amazing!"
She excitedly hugged Lynn, "Thank you for protecting me!"
Lynn gently patted Gwen's back, "Silly girl, protecting you is what I should do."
He said, turning his gaze to the three robbers lying on the ground, "We need to call the Police now."
Soon, the Police arrived at the scene and took the three robbers away.
Lynn and Gwen also went to the Police station together to give their statements.
By the time everything was handled, it was already deep into the night.
The two walked out of the Police station gate, and Lynnlooked at Gwen's slightly tired face, feeling a bit guilty.
"Gwen, I'm sorry, for letting you encounter something like this."
Gwen, however, smiled, "It's okay.
With you by my side, I'm not afraid of anything."
She said, actively taking Lynn's arm, "Let's go home."
The two walked hand in hand on their way home; although it was late, their hearts were tightly connected.
Gwen's admiration for Lynn grew even deeper, and Lynnsecretly resolved to always guard Gwen's side and protect her safety.
A few days later, Lynn and Gwen talked about that night again.
Gwen still praised Lynn's brave performance endlessly, while Lynn humbly stated that he only did what he should have done.
"Lynn, were you really not scared then?" Gwen asked curiously, "Those were three knife-wielding thugs!"
Lynn looked at Gwen's earnest eyes and smiled slightly, "Actually, I was a little nervous too."
He said honestly, "But I knew I couldn't back down; I had to protect you."
Hearing Lynn's answer, a warm current surged in Gwen's heart.
She looked deeply at Lynn, then hugged him tightly, "Lynn, thank you for always being by my side."
Lynn also hugged Gwen back, his heart filled with gratitude and happiness.
He knew that no matter what difficulties and challenges they would face in the future, as long as he had Gwen's support and companionship, he would be able to move forward bravely, without fear.
And Gwen also deeply understood that Lynn was one of the most important people in her life, and she would always cherish this rare sibling bond, accompanying Lynnthrough every moment.
As night deepened, the lights in George's house seemed particularly warm.
George, Lynn, and Gwen returned home, carrying the day's fatigue and a wealth of memories.
George was the father of this brother and sister; he had always been proud of his children, and tonight, he planned to personally cook a sumptuous dinner for them.
In the kitchen, George was busy, the sound of spatulas clanking and the aroma of food intertwining, creating a warm feeling of home.
Before long, several colorful, fragrant, and delicious dishes were placed on the dining table.
Chapter 190 Finally Caught Ward
"Come, try out your father's cooking," George said with a smile, motioning for the children to sit down.
Lynn and Gwen exchanged smiles, then sat down and began to enjoy the delicious dinner. The atmosphere at the dinner table was warm and harmonious, but Gwenseemed to have something she wanted to say.
"Dad," Gwen put down her chopsticks and looked at George seriously, "Something happened today that I feel I need to tell you."
George was slightly startled, then smiled and said, "Oh? What is it that makes our Gwen so serious?"
Gwen took a deep breath and began to recount what happened that evening: "On our way home from school, we encountered three thugs with knives. They wanted to rob us, but brother he..."
At this point, a hint of admiration flashed in Gwen's eyes. She turned to look at Lynn and continued, "Brother was very brave; he dealt with those three thugs by himself and even subdued them in the end!"
When George heard this, the smile on his face gradually faded, replaced by a hint of worry and lingering fear. However, this emotion was quickly supplanted by a more complex feeling—that of pride in his son.
He looked at Lynn, his gaze full of approval: "Lynn, you did very well. I am proud of you."
Lynn, however, seemed a bit embarrassed. He scratched his head and said, "It was nothing, really. I just did what I was supposed to do."
"No, you did far more than that," George said seriously. "You protected your sister and showed the responsibility and courage of a brother. Not everyone can do that."
Gwen also nodded repeatedly, adding, "Yes, brother was super brave at the time! I was stunned!"
George was even more pleased to hear this. He knew that his children had grown up and were capable of handling things on their own. But at the same time, he also realized that, as a father, he needed to give his children more support and guidance.
"Lynn, your performance today was indeed excellent," George affirmed again. "But I also hope you understand that bravery is not just about not flinching when facing danger; more importantly, it requires wisdom and strategy. In similar situations in the future, you must first ensure your own safety and your sister's."
Lynn nodded seriously, "I understand, Dad. I will work harder."
The morning sun, filtering through the clouds, cast its light upon the city streets, bringing a touch of tranquility and warmth to this bustling metropolis. However, for Police Lynn and his partner Hans, a new day meant new challenges. They put on their neat Police uniforms, equipped themselves, and prepared to begin their day's patrol duties.
"Hans, do you think there's any pattern to these recent new drug cases?" Lynn asked while organizing the documents in his hand.
Hans frowned, pondered for a moment, and replied, "To be honest, these cases all seem random, but I always feel there must be a larger network behind it all."
Lynn nodded in agreement, "Exactly. We need to step up patrols and try to find some clues."
The two left the Police station and began their routine patrol. The streets were bustling with people, and various sounds intermingled noisily; this was the daily life of the city. They moved through the crowd, their sharp eyes constantly scanning their surroundings, searching for any suspicious clues.
Suddenly, Lynn's gaze was drawn to a figure. It was a man wearing a worn jacket and a hat, loitering suspiciously on the street, occasionally trying to sell something to passersby.
"Hans, look at that man," Lynn pointed to the man, "He looks a bit suspicious."
Hans followed Lynn's gaze and also spotted the man. They quietly approached, trying to hear what the man was saying.
"Hey, buddy, want something fresh?" the man mysteriously asked a young man passing by.
The young man seemed curious and stopped to ask, "What's fresh?"
The man pulled a small bottle from his pocket, containing some powdery substance, "This is the latest type of drug; it's guaranteed to make you feel like you're in heaven."
Hearing this, Lynn and Hans exchanged glances, a plan already forming in their minds. They quickly stepped forward and showed their Police badges: "We are Police. You are currently suspected of drug trafficking. Please come with us to the Police station for investigation."
Seeing this, the man's face changed dramatically, and he turned to flee. But Lynn and Hans were both well-trained Police. They quickly caught up and subdued the man on the ground.
"Why are you arresting me? I haven't broken the law!" the man struggled and shouted.
"We saw you trafficking drugs with our own eyes; that is the evidence," Lynn said, snatching the small bottle from the man's hand. "Moreover, we can also search your residence, and I'm sure we'll find more evidence."
When the man heard this, his face immediately turned pale. He knew he had nowhere to run and could only surrender.
At the Police station, after further interrogation and investigation, the man was indeed a drug dealer, and he also confessed to his upstream contact. Lynn and Hansfollowed this lead, tracing the connections, and ultimately successfully dismantled a drug trafficking syndicate.
"I never thought this case would be solved so easily," Hans sighed.
Lynn, however, shook his head: "No, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Behind these drug traffickers, there must be a larger force controlling everything. We need to continue our in-depth investigation to completely eradicate this cancer."
Hans took a deep breath after hearing Lynn's words: "You're right. We can't let our guard down; we must continue to work hard."
Inside the Police station's interrogation room, the lighting was dim and heavy. Lynn sat at the interrogation table, facing the recently arrested thug, who hung his head, looking dejected.
"Look up, look at me." Lynn's voice was calm and firm, revealing an undeniable authority.
The thug slowly raised his head, his eyes showing a hint of unease and fear. He knew he was in big trouble this time, and the Police officer in front of him was clearly not so easy to deal with.
"Tell me, where is Ward now?" Lynn asked directly.
The thug hesitated, trying to avoid Lynn's gaze, "I... I don't know what you're talking about."
Lynn smiled faintly, a hint of coldness in his smile, "You think you can fool me? We've already found evidence of your contact with Ward at your residence. Now, you can only lighten your sentence by cooperating with us."
When the thug heard this, his face instantly turned pale. He knew he could no longer hide it and could only confess, "Okay, I'll tell you. Ward, he... he's currently hiding in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city."
Having obtained this important clue, Lynn immediately took action. He assembled a crack Police team, preparing to arrest Ward.
"For this operation, we must proceed cautiously," Lynntold the team members before setting off. "Ward is a cunning fox; he might set traps to deal with us. So, everyone must remain vigilant and follow orders."
The team members nodded in understanding, their faces filled with determination and resolve. They knew that this operation was crucial for the peace and security of the entire city.
As night fell, the Police cars silently drove towards the abandoned warehouse. Lynn and the team members got out of the cars and quickly surrounded the warehouse. Once everything was ready, Lynn led a few team members quietly towards the warehouse door.
The door was gently pushed open, and a chilling aura swept out. Lynn and the team members held up their flashlights and cautiously entered the warehouse. The warehouse was pitch black, with only the beams of their flashlights flickering in the darkness.
They carefully searched every corner, looking for Ward's Tracks. Suddenly, a rapid sound of footsteps came from behind them. Lynn immediately turned around, only to see a figure rapidly approaching them.
"Stop! Don't move!" Lynn shouted loudly, raising his gun.
However, the figure did not stop; instead, it sped up and charged towards them. Lynn and the team members quickly opened Fire, but the figure skillfully dodged their bullets, clearly a well-trained expert.
A fierce confrontation ensued between the two sides, with gunshots and shouts echoing inside the warehouse. However, due to the dim lighting and complex terrain inside the warehouse, Lynn and the team members found themselves at a disadvantage. They had to fight while retreating, trying to find a more favorable position.
Just as they were about to be cornered, a sudden bright light shone from the other side of the warehouse. Lynntook the opportunity to clearly see the face of the figure; it was Ward, whom they had been chasing.
"Ward! You can't run away!" Lynn shouted loudly.
Ward, however, sneered, "You think you can catch me like this? Too naive!" With that, he turned and ran deeper into the warehouse.
Lynn and his team members followed closely, chasing him all the way. They passed through one dark corner after another, climbed over piles of messy goods, and finally reached the end of the warehouse. However, when they reached the end, they found that Ward had disappeared without a trace.
"Damn it! He ran away!" a team member shouted angrily.
Lynn, however, calmly looked around, "No, he didn't run far. We'll split up and search; we must find him!" With that, he led several team members to search the other side of the warehouse.
Not long after, they found Ward's tracks in a hidden corner. This time, they didn't give Ward any chance to escape, quickly moving forward to subdue him on the ground.
After a fierce struggle and chase, Ward was finally successfully apprehended. When the Police sirens sounded in the night sky, it marked the temporary conclusion of this battle between justice and evil.
The team members gathered around, looking at Ward, who was subdued on the ground, with victorious smiles on their faces. Lynn stood aside, taking a deep breath.
Inside the interrogation room, the atmosphere was tense and heavy. Lynn sat at the table, his gaze fixed on Ward opposite him. Although Ward was subdued, his face still held a hint of disdain and provocation.
"Ward, tell me, where exactly is the research institute for the new drug?" Lynn's voice was firm and powerful, revealing an unquestionable authority.
Ward, however, chuckled softly and shook his head, "Officer Lynn, that's an interesting question. I'm just a small-time seller; how would I know the location of the research institute?"
Lynn frowned, clearly displeased, "Ward, don't play games with me. We already have enough evidence to prove your close connection to this new drug case. Now, only by confessing honestly can you reduce your crime."
Hearing this, the smile on Ward's face gradually disappeared, replaced by a cold sneer, "Hmph, what do you think you've got? Just some superficial stuff. I'll tell you, this research institute isn't in the country; it's overseas. I'm just in charge of sales; you're not qualified to know the real boss behind the scenes."
Lynn's heart stirred upon hearing this. He had long suspected that a greater secret might be hidden behind this case, and now it seemed his guess was correct. But Ward's attitude was clearly provocative, and he had to find a way to make him confess.
"Ward, do you think I can't do anything to you just because you say that?" Lynn said coldly, "I'll tell you, no matter where this research institute is, no matter who the boss behind the scenes is, we will definitely track them down. If you confess now, you can still Strive for lenient treatment. Otherwise, what awaits you will be the severe punishment of the law."
Ward, however, was completely unmoved. He chuckled again, "Officer Lynn, you're truly adorably naive. Do you think the law can punish me? I'll tell you, in this World, money makes the mare go. Even if you find the research institute and catch the boss behind the scenes, what then? At that time, someone will naturally settle everything for us."
Hearing Lynn, his heart burned with rage. He slammed his hand on the table and stood up, "Ward, you're too arrogant! You think money can settle everything? I tell you, in this World, there's still justice and fairness! I will definitely make you pay the price you deserve!"
Ward was startled by Lynn's sudden outburst, but he quickly regained his composure, "Hmph, justice and fairness? That's just something you Police use to comfort yourselves. In this real World, only power and money are Eternity."
Lynn took a deep breath, trying to calm his emotions. He knew it was pointless to argue with a criminal like Ward. He had to remain calm and continue to investigate the truth of the case.
"Ward, I'll ask you one more time, where exactly is the research institute for the new drug?" Lynn sat back down, his gaze fixed on Ward.
Ward, however, closed his eyes and said nothing more. He had clearly decided not to cooperate with Lynn and awaited his fate. But Lynn had no intention of giving up; he knew the key to this case lay with Ward. As long as Ward spoke, they could follow the clues and find the real culprit behind the scenes. So he decided to change his strategy and adopt a psychological approach.
"Ward, I know you're a smart man. You should understand that the current situation is not favorable to you." Lynnsoftened his tone, "If you are willing to cooperate with us to find the boss behind the scenes and the location of this research institute, I can guarantee you will receive a fair trial and treatment. Otherwise..."
Lynn didn't continue, but the meaning was clear. Ward opened his eyes and looked at Lynn, a flicker of hesitation in his eyes. He was indeed weighing the pros and cons, considering whether he should tell Lynn the truth. But just then, the interrogation room door suddenly opened, and a mysterious man in a black suit and sunglasses walked in. His appearance immediately broke the balance in the interrogation room.
"Mr. Ward, your lawyer is here." The man said coldly, "Now I will take him out of here." With that, he walked to Ward's side and unlocked his handcuffs.
Ward stood up, straightened his clothes, then gave Lynn a provocative look, turned, and followed the mysterious man out of the interrogation room. Lynn did not stop them, because he knew that anything he did at this point would be futile. He watched Ward's retreating back, filled with a sense of frustration, but at the same time, his determination to pursue the truth became even stronger.
Half a month passed quickly, and the streets of Manhattan returned to their usual tranquility. The Shadow of the new drug seemed to dissipate overnight, but the atmosphere within the Police department did not lighten much.
Lynn stood by the Police station window, gazing into the distance, his heart a mix of emotions. During this time, he and his colleagues had worked day and night to track down clues, and although they had successfully arrested Ward and a group of drug dealers, the true masterminds behind the scenes remained at large. He knew that this battle was far from over.
Just then, the telephone rang, breaking Lynn's train of thought. He turned and answered the phone, and his adoptive father George's warm voice came through the receiver: "Lynn, are you free tonight? We're having a family gathering at home; can you come back and join us?"
Lynn was slightly startled, then smiled, "Of course, Dad. I'll be right back." After hanging up, he took a deep breath, deciding to temporarily put his work worries aside and go home to enjoy some rare quality time.
That evening, the living room of the Lynn family was brightly lit, filled with laughter and joy. George, Gwen, and other relatives and friends gathered together to celebrate this beautiful night. As soon as Lynn walked in, Gwen pulled him to sit on the sofa, and he began to endure everyone's "interrogation" in turn.
"Lynn, I heard you solved another big case recently; that's amazing!"
"Yes, Brother Lynn has always been our pride!"
Facing everyone's praise, Lynn scratched his head a little sheepishly, "It's nothing, really; it's all thanks to everyone." He looked around and suddenly noticed that his adoptive father George was not in the living room, "Oh, by the way, where did Dad go?"
"Oh, he went to prepare for hunting," Gwen explained, "Dad said you've been working too hard lately and wants to take you hunting in the wilderness to relax."
Hearing this, a warm feeling surged in Lynn's heart. He knew this was an activity his adoptive father had specially arranged for him, hoping to help him temporarily escape the pressure of work and enjoy the tranquility of country life. So, he stood up, "Then I'll go help Dad prepare."
Arriving in the backyard, Lynn saw George busy organizing hunting rifles and equipment. He walked over and said softly, "Dad, I'll help you."
Chapter 191 Rare Prey
George looked up at Lynn, a kind smile on his face, "Good boy, you're here. I've prepared all these things; see if there's anything else you need to bring."
Lynn carefully checked the equipment, and after confirming everything was in order, he nodded, "It's all here, Father. Let's go." So, the father and son shouldered their gear, left the house, and drove to the hunting grounds in the suburbs.
The morning Sun filtered through the sparse leaves, casting mottled light and Shadow on the dense forest path. George and Lynn, father and son, trudged through the mud, their heavy hunting rifles and equipment on their backs, leaving clear footprints. The surrounding natural environment was quiet and peaceful, occasionally broken by a few bird calls.
"Lynn, watch your step, don't get distracted," Georgeadmonished, his gaze sharp, constantly scanning for movement around them. As an experienced hunter, he knew that this seemingly peaceful forest held countless dangers and opportunities.
Lynn nodded, following closely behind George. Though young, he had honed his skills under his adoptive father's influence. His gaze was equally keen, and his ears were perked, listening to every subtle sound around him.
The two continued to move slowly and steadily through the forest, one after the other. Time passed by, and the Sun gradually grew hotter. Fine beads of sweat appeared on Lynn's forehead, but he paid them no mind, simply wiping them away silently.
Suddenly, George stopped and motioned for Lynn to be quiet. Lynn immediately tensed, following George's gaze. Ahead, in the bushes, the faint outline of a wild boar was visible. It was foraging with its head down, seemingly unaware of their arrival.
George gave Lynn a look, and the two quickly split up, quietly approaching the wild boar from two directions. Their movements were light and agile, trying not to make any sound. Lynn's heart was filled with tension and anticipation; he knew this was a rare hunting opportunity.
Just as the two were about to encircle it, the wild boar suddenly raised its head, vigilantly looking around. Lynn's heart jumped, afraid it had discovered them. But just then, George leaped out of the bushes, his hunting rifle aimed at the wild boar.
"Bang!" A gunshot broke the silence of the forest, and the wild boar fell to the ground. Seeing this, Lynnimmediately rushed forward and, with George, securely tied up the wild boar.
"Well done, Lynn!" George patted his son's shoulder, a satisfied smile on his face, "Our cooperation is so seamless, truly perfect!"
Lynn also smiled; he knew his performance this time had not disappointed his adoptive father. Together, they hoisted the wild boar onto their shoulders, ready to return to the hunting grounds to display their trophy.
However, just as they were about to leave, a discordant voice suddenly rang out: "Oh, isn't that George and Lynn? I never thought you two could hunt such a big wild boar!"
Lynn turned his head and saw a man in splendid hunting attire, holding an exquisite hunting rifle, walking towards them. His face held a hint of disdain and a provocative smile, and behind him followed several other hunters in similar attire.
George frowned, recognizing the man as Tom, a well-known local hunter. He and George had always been at odds, always wanting to compete in hunting. Seeing George and Lynn hunt a wild boar this time, he naturally refused to be outdone.
"Tom, you've come at a good time," George said coldly, "Want to compare whose prey is bigger and heavier?"
Upon hearing this, a sly glint flashed in Tom's eyes. He glanced at the wild boar on the ground, calculating in his mind. Although this wild boar was not small, to win against George, he would have to produce a larger prey. So, he forced a hearty laugh: "Alright, let's compete! But we should change the way; just comparing size is boring."
George raised an eyebrow: "How do you want to compare?"
Tom's eyes darted around, and he proposed a seemingly fair but cunning suggestion: "How about we compare whose prey is harder to hunt? For example, this wild boar is big, but it was hunted by two people working together. If I can hunt a more challenging prey by myself, then I win, how about that?"
Upon hearing this, a surge of anger immediately rose in Lynn's heart. He understood that Tom's intention was to seize the opportunity to belittle the results of their father-son cooperation. He was about to retort but was stopped by George's look. George knew Tom's character and intentions well; he knew that arguing at this moment would be useless and would only make the other party more smug. So, he smiled slightly and nodded: "Alright, since you want to compete like that, then so be it. But we must have a time limit; we can't wait indefinitely."
Seeing George agree to his proposal, Tom secretly gloated. He quickly said, "No problem, no problem! Let's set today's sunset as the limit! We'll meet at the hunting ground entrance then to see who's truly superior!"
After saying that, he turned and left, taking his subordinates to continue hunting.
George watched Tom's retreating back, a cold glint in his eyes. He knew he couldn't lose this time, not only for his honor but also for Lynn's future and growth.
So he patted Lynn's shoulder and said, "Don't worry, child, we will win!" Lynn looked at his adoptive father's determined eyes, and the anger in his heart gradually subsided, replaced by a strong fighting spirit and confidence.
He knew that with George around, nothing could stop them from moving forward! So the two once again shouldered their hunting rifles and equipment and embarked on the journey to continue hunting.
They had to find more challenging and precious prey before sunset to prove their strength and wisdom! This hunting competition thus became even more intense and thrilling...
As the Sun gradually set, the light in the forest also grew dim, adding considerable difficulty to the hunt. But George and Lynn were not intimidated by the challenges; relying on their rich experience and tacit cooperation, they continuously searched for their target in the forest.
Their clothes were soaked with sweat, and their faces were covered in mud and leaves, but they didn't care, just moving forward silently. Finally, just as the Sun was about to set, they discovered a precious White Deer.
This White Deer had fur as pure White as snow, and its posture was agile and elegant, making it a rare and precious prey. George and Lynn exchanged glances, both understanding that this was an excellent opportunity.
They quietly approached the White Deer and then suddenly launched an attack. After a fierce chase and struggle, they finally succeeded in capturing the White Deer. Looking at the White Deer on the ground, Georgeand Lynn both showed victorious smiles. They knew they had won this hunting competition!
As the Sun completely set, George and Lynn returned to the hunting ground entrance with the White Deer. At this moment, Tom also happened to return, and upon seeing the White Deer in their hands, an expression of disbelief appeared on his face. He had originally thought he had a sure victory, but he never expected George and Lynn to be able to hunt such precious prey. The outcome of this hunting competition was already self-evident. Georgeand Lynn won the competition with their strength and wisdom, and also earned everyone's respect and praise. Tom, on the other hand, could only helplessly accept the fact of defeat, his heart filled with unwillingness and regret.
The lingering glow of the setting Sun cast a warm aura on the forest path. Lynn and George walked side by side; although their steps were somewhat weary, their faces were beaming with satisfaction and joy. Between them, hung a heavy wild boar, the result of their combined hunting efforts today.
"Lynn, this hunt was truly exhilarating!" George couldn't help but exclaim, "Our father and son's seamless cooperation is truly invincible!"
Lynn smiled, his heart also filled with pride. He knew that this successful hunt was not only due to their skill and strength but also because of the deep father-son bond between them. "Yes, Father. With you by my side, I fear nothing." Saying this, he looked up at George, his eyes full of admiration and gratitude.
George, in turn, dotingly ruffled his hair, a kind smile on his face. And so, the two, amidst laughter and joy, returned home with their prey. They carefully cleaned the wild boar and then began preparations for cooking.
Lynn was in charge of making Fire, while George was responsible for cutting the pork.
The Firelight illuminated their faces, appearing especially warm and harmonious.
As night fell, a fragrance gradually filled the air—the smell of roasted wild boar meat, making one's mouth water.
Gwen, smelling the aroma, ran over impatiently.
"Wow! It smells so good! What delicious food did you roast?" she asked excitedly, her eyes fixed on the wild boar meat roasting over the Fire.
George looked up and smiled at Gwen, saying, "This is the wild boar meat we hunted today, specially roasted for you."
Upon hearing this, Gwen's face showed a surprised expression.
"Really? That's great! I haven't eaten wild boar meat in so long!" As she spoke, she swallowed her saliva, eager to taste this delicious dish.
Seeing this, Lynn quickly picked up a piece of golden-roasted wild boar meat with chopsticks and handed it to Gwen.
"Here, try it.
We roasted it for a long time, so it should be very flavorful."
Gwen took the wild boar meat, blew on it to cool it down, and then carefully took a bite.
Immediately, her eyes lit up.
"Wow! It's delicious! Crispy outside, tender inside, and so fragrant! You guys are amazing!" she exclaimed, her face beaming with satisfaction and happiness.
Seeing Gwen eating so happily, Lynn and George also felt very pleased.
They exchanged a smile, their hearts filled with a sense of accomplishment.
However, just then, a discordant voice suddenly broke the warm atmosphere.
"Hmph! It's just a wild boar, what's there to show off about?"
A figure emerged from the Darkness, his face showing disdain and jealousy.
It was Jack, the neighbor's son.
He had always been at odds with Lynn, always looking for trouble and provocation.
This time, seeing Lynn and George hunt a wild boar and roast it so deliciously, he naturally felt displeased.
Lynn frowned and looked at Jack, saying, "We are just sharing the fruits of our labor, and we don't mean to show off.
If you don't like it, you can leave."
But Jack had no intention of letting it go.
He snorted coldly and continued, "Don't think I don't know what you're thinking.
You just want to show off your hunting skills.
Let me tell you, next time I will definitely hunt a bigger prey than you!"
After speaking, he turned and left, disappearing into the Darkness.
George looked at Jack's retreating back and shook his head lightly: "This kid, always so competitive."
And Lynn clenched his fist, secretly vowing: Next time they hunt, they must hunt a bigger prey to show Jack their true strength!
This small dispute did not affect the trio's mood for too long.
They quickly returned to the joyful atmosphere and continued to enjoy the delicious wild boar meat and warm time…
As time passed, the night deepened.
Lynn added a few more pieces of firewood, making the Fire burn brighter, adding a touch of warmth to the night.
The three sat around the Fire, enjoying the wild boar meat and chatting about their daily lives.
"Lynn, you performed very well in this hunt," Georgepraised, "It seems your shooting skills have improved a lot."
Lynn smiled modestly: "It's all because Father taught me well."
Gwen also interjected: "Yes, Lynn is becoming more and more capable.
He will definitely become an excellent hunter like you, George, in the future."
Hearing the praise from his wife and daughter, Georgefelt very comforted.
He looked at Lynn with loving eyes, as if seeing a reflection of his younger self.
At the same time, he also placed high hopes on Lynn, hoping that he would inherit his mantle and become an outstanding hunter.
However, when talking about Lynn's future, Georgecouldn't help but recall the previous dispute with Jack.
He knew that in this fiercely competitive hunting World, strength was the ultimate truth.
So, he solemnly said to Lynn: "My child, you must remember that hunting is not just for survival and showing off, but also a challenge and transcendence of oneself.
Only by continuously improving yourself can you go further on the path of hunting."
Lynn listened, then nodded seriously: "I understand, Father.
I will work hard to improve my hunting skills and live up to your expectations."
His gaze was firm and powerful, revealing infinite longing and confidence for the future.
And George and Gwen also believed that he could do it.
So the three once again clinked their cups together, making a clear and pleasant sound.
In this wonderful night, they jointly enjoyed the warmth and happiness brought by family affection and delicious food… At the same time, they also looked forward to the next, even more exciting hunting trip!
The morning Sun shone through the curtain gap, spilling onto Lynn's bedside.
He rubbed his sleepy eyes and woke up from his dream.
Today was a special day; Hans had called early in the morning, his tone revealing a hint of mystery and excitement.
"Lynn, do you know?
Skywalker Company is planning a big move recently!" Hans's voice on the phone sounded unusually excited.
Lynn was slightly stunned; as a leader in the tech industry, every new product launch by Skywalker Company caused quite a stir.
He quickly sat up and asked, "What big move?
Is it a new smartphone?"
"No, no, this time it's not as simple as a phone."
Hans paused mysteriously, "It's a brand new tech product, said to revolutionize the entire industry!"
Upon hearing this, a strong curiosity surged in Lynn's heart.
He knew that Skywalker Company had always been innovation-driven, and every new product launch brought unprecedented surprises.
He eagerly pressed, "What exactly is the product?
Tell me quickly!"
Hans, however, kept him in suspense: "Don't rush, you'll know when the time comes.
The most important thing now is that we need to be there to maintain security.
This press conference is unprecedented in scale, and it will definitely attract many media and fans, so we need to prepare in advance."
Lynn took a deep breath; he knew Hans was right.
As security experts, they bore the important responsibility of protecting the safety of the site.
He quickly put on his clothes and, as he walked out the door, said, "Okay, I'll be right over.
We need to discuss countermeasures thoroughly."
After hanging up the phone, Lynn rushed to Hans's office.
As soon as they met, they immediately plunged into intense work discussions.
They thoroughly analyzed the venue layout, personnel arrangements, and potential security risks for the press conference, and formulated a detailed response plan.
However, just as they were busy, an unexpected call broke the tranquility of the office.
The caller ID showed it was the head of Skywalker Company's public relations department, his voice revealing a hint of anxiety: "Mr. Hans, Mr. Lynn, we've encountered a small problem here.
The press conference venue we originally booked suddenly had an issue, and now we have to temporarily change the venue."
"What?
Change the venue?" Hans and Lynn exclaimed simultaneously.
They knew this meant all their previous preparations would have to be redone.
Moreover, the condition of the new venue and whether there were any security risks were unknown.
Hans quickly calmed down and asked in a deep voice, "Where is the new venue?
We need to go check it out as soon as possible."
After the other party provided the address of the new venue, the two immediately drove there.
Along the way, their mood was unusually heavy.
The importance of this press conference was self-evident; any mistake could lead to serious consequences.
They had to ensure everything was foolproof!
Upon arriving at the new venue, the two immediately began their intensive reconnaissance work.
They carefully inspected every corner of the venue, not missing any potential security risks, re-planned the security perimeter, and communicated in detail with the venue manager.
Only after confirming the safety of the new venue did they breathe a sigh of relief.
Although the sudden change disrupted the original plan, Hans and Lynn, relying on their rich experience and excellent professional competence, quickly responded to this crisis.
They knew that the upcoming task would be even more arduous.
They had to remain vigilant at all times to ensure the smooth progress of the press conference.
As the press conference approached, the two became increasingly tense.
Finally, after a long wait and intense preparation, Skywalker Company's new product launch conference was held as scheduled.
Hans and Lynn stood at the entrance, their eyes like torches, scanning everyone entering the venue.
Chapter 192 Lynn vs. Thompson
Their hearts were filled with a sense of responsibility and mission, as if at this moment, the safety of the entire World rested on their shoulders.
The moment the new product was unveiled on stage, the entire venue erupted in thunderous applause and cheers, while Hans and Lynn quietly stood in a corner, guarding this technological carnival and glory, while also being vigilant against any potential security threats.
Their eyes were firm and sharp, as if telling everyone: As long as we are here, this is a safe haven!
The press conference was in full swing, and the new product received an enthusiastic response.
Media reporters flocked to the stage, scrambling to photograph and report on this technological event.
Fans were also excited, cheering for Tianxing Company's innovative spirit and going wild for this groundbreaking tech product.
The atmosphere at the press conference was lively, with the general manager of Tianxing Technology passionately introducing the new tech product on stage, while the audience below applauded thunderously, and the camera shutters of media reporters clicked continuously.
However, amidst the clamor, Lynn felt a hint of unusual quietness.
He looked around, his gaze suddenly fixed on a window of a tall building.
There, the curtains were slightly open, revealing a dark gun barrel.
Lynn's heart sank, and he immediately realized the seriousness of the situation—there was a sniper!
"Quick! Everyone duck!" Lynn shouted, and at the same time, he lunged towards the general manager of Tianxing Technology, tackling him to the ground.
The general manager was startled by the sudden turn of events; he struggled to get up but was held down tightly by Lynn.
"Don't move! There's a sniper!" Lynn said urgently, his gaze never leaving the window of the tall building.
Hearing the words "sniper," the general manager's face instantly turned pale.
He followed Lynn's gaze and also saw the dark gun barrel.
For a moment, the entire press conference venue fell into chaos, with screams and cries rising and falling.
However, Lynn remained exceptionally calm.
While tightly protecting the general manager, he loudly directed the on-site security personnel: "Quick! Block all exits! Notify the police!"
Just then, the sniper seemed to have noticed that his whereabouts had been exposed; he quickly retracted his gun and disappeared behind the curtain.
But Lynn knew this did not mean the crisis was over.
He quickly helped the general manager up, and the two of them hid in a safe corner.
"What exactly is going on? Why is there a sniper here?" the general manager asked, still shaken.
Lynn frowned: "I'm not sure either.
But it's clear someone doesn't want this press conference to go smoothly."
The general manager's face grew even uglier.
He knew that this press conference was of great significance to Tianxing Technology; if it failed, it would not only severely impact the company's reputation but also lead to huge economic losses.
And now, someone was even willing to use a sniper to disrupt the press conference.
What kind of conspiracy was hidden behind this?
Lynn saw the general manager's worry and patted him on the shoulder: "Don't worry, I'll find out the truth.
The most important thing now is to ensure everyone's safety."
After speaking, he turned and walked towards the security team, beginning to arrange the next defensive tasks.
He knew that this crisis was far from over.
Although the sniper had temporarily disappeared, he could attack again at any time.
He had to remain vigilant at all times to ensure everyone's safety.
At the same time, the police quickly arrived at the scene.
They worked closely with Lynn's security team to conduct a comprehensive search and investigation of the scene.
However, disappointingly, they did not find any valuable clues.
The sniper seemed to have vanished into thin air, disappearing without a trace.
This made Lynn feel very tricky, but he did not give up.
He firmly believed that as long as he continued to investigate, he would surely uncover the truth behind this.
After the crisis was resolved, the press conference proceeded smoothly.
The moment the new product was unveiled on stage, the entire venue erupted in thunderous applause and cheers.
The general manager stood on stage, looking gratefully at Lynn and the security team below.
He knew that without their dedication and effort, there would be no success today.
And Lynn also showed a relieved smile, knowing that his mission was complete.
He quietly stood in a corner, guarding this technological carnival and glory, while also being vigilant against any potential security threats.
At the subsequent celebration banquet, the general manager specifically raised a toast to Lynn and the security team: "Thank you!
It is you who guarded the safety of this press conference with courage and wisdom!
Tianxing Technology will never forget your contributions!"
Lynn raised his glass and toasted the general manager with his team: "This is our duty!
As long as Tianxing Technology needs us, we will always stand on the front lines!"
The scene once again erupted in enthusiastic applause and cheers, and the atmosphere reached its climax.
The night was as dark as ink, and the streetlights were dim and hazy.
Lynn and Hans, dressed in casual clothes, walked on the quiet street, their eyes firm and sharp, as if they could penetrate the heavy darkness.
"According to the information we currently have, the sniper is likely a former Marine, named Thompson," Hanswhispered, clutching a document in his hand.
Lynn nodded, his brows furrowed: "This Thompson, his whereabouts have been a mystery since he retired, I didn't expect him to appear here.
We must find him as soon as possible, otherwise the consequences will be unimaginable."
The two quickened their pace, crossing one street after another, finally arriving at a dilapidated residential area.
The environment here was complex, with mixed personnel, making it a good place to hide.
"It should be here," Hans said, pointing to a dilapidated apartment building ahead.
Lynn said nothing, just nodded.
They cautiously approached the apartment building, fearing to alert the enemy.
However, just as they were about to enter the apartment building, a Shadow suddenly leaped from upstairs and quickly disappeared into the night.
"It's Thompson!" Lynn shouted, immediately giving chase.
Hans followed closely, and the two ran frantically, trying to catch up with the Shadow.
However, Thompson was clearly very familiar with this area; he used the terrain and buildings to constantly evade Lynn and Hans's pursuit.
Whenever the two were about to catch up to him, he was always able to skillfully escape.
"Damn it! This guy is too cunning!" Hans cursed angrily, somewhat exasperated.
Lynn remained calm: "Don't worry, he can't escape.
We keep chasing!"
The two once again accelerated, closely following behind Thompson.
After a fierce chase, they finally intercepted Thompson in front of an abandoned warehouse.
Thompson stopped and slowly turned around.
His face held a sly smile, as if he didn't care about this chase game.
"You finally caught up," he said indifferently.
Lynn and Hans said nothing, just watched him warily.
They knew that this Thompson was no ordinary person and had to be handled carefully.
Sure enough, Thompson suddenly attacked, his figure like a ghost, pouncing on the two.
Lynn and Hans reacted quickly, engaging in a fierce struggle with Thompson.
The three went back and forth, fighting to a standstill.
Although Thompson was agile and his moves were ruthless, Lynn and Hans were not to be trifled with either.
With their extraordinary skills and rich experience, they fought Thompson to a draw.
However, as time went on, Lynn and Hans gradually discovered Thompson's weakness.
Although his attacks were fierce, his defense was relatively weak.
So, the two began to change their tactics, focusing on defensive counterattacks, gradually forcing Thompson to reveal his flaws.
Finally, in a fierce exchange, Lynn seized a moment of Thompson's carelessness and landed a heavy punch squarely on his abdomen.
Thompson grunted, doubling over in pain.
Hans immediately stepped forward and firmly subdued Thompson on the ground.
"We won," Lynn said, panting.
His face was beaming with a victorious smile, and Hansalso showed a look of relief.
They knew that although this chase was difficult, they ultimately achieved victory.
After Thompson was arrested, the two brought him back to the police station for interrogation.
After a battle of wits, Thompson finally confessed his crimes and motives.
It turned out that he tried to disrupt Tianxing Technology's press conference with a sniper rifle due to a long-standing grudge.
Now that the matter was exposed, he could only accept the sanctions of the law.
Lynn and Hans exchanged a smile, and the heavy stone in their hearts finally fell; they successfully tracked down and captured the sniper Thompson, which was truly thrilling.
The police station lights were dim and heavy. Thompsonsat in the interrogation room chair, his hands firmly cuffed to the table. His gaze was somewhat lost, yet also unwilling.
Lynn and Hans stood opposite him, watching him silently.
"Thompson, why did you do this?" Lynn was the first to speak, his tone calm and firm, as if it could penetrate Thompson's inner defenses.
Thompson looked up, meeting Lynn's eyes. He was silent for a moment, then slowly began to speak: "You won't understand."
His voice was a little hoarse, with a hint of helplessness.
However, Lynn had no intention of giving up. He continued to press: "Is it because of Skywalk Technology's new product? Or for your personal reasons?"
Thompson fell silent again. He seemed to be thinking about something, or perhaps recalling something.
After a while, he finally spoke: "A bit of both, I suppose. That new product, it will make many people lose their jobs, even their livelihoods. And I'm just one of the victims."
Upon hearing this, Lynn and Hans couldn't help but frown. They hadn't expected such a story hidden behind Thompson.
However, this could not be a reason for him to commit a crime.
Lynn took a deep breath, then slowly said: "Thompson, I understand your feelings. But you chose the wrong way to express your dissatisfaction. You should know that violence cannot solve problems."
Thompson didn't speak, just silently lowered his head. He seemed to be reflecting on his actions, and also worrying about his future.
And Lynn and Hans also said nothing more; they knew that at this moment, silence was more powerful than any words.
The morning sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains, dappling Lynn's bedside.
He rubbed his sleepy eyes and habitually reached for the phone on his bedside table.
Suddenly, a rapid knocking broke the morning's tranquility. Lynn frowned, a premonition of ill omen rising in his heart.
He quickly dressed, opened the door, and saw James Duke standing outside with an anxious expression.
"Lynn, something's happened. We need your help." James Duke's voice was low and urgent.
Lynn's heart tightened. He knew James Duke was a steady person, so such panic must mean something serious had occurred.
"Come in and speak slowly. What exactly happened?"
James Duke stepped into the room, closed the door, and said with a solemn expression: "We suspect an official named Hulk is involved in serious bribery. But the problem is, we can't find conclusive evidence."
Lynn's brows furrowed at this: "No evidence, that is indeed a tricky problem. How did you discover he was suspected of bribery?"
"We received an anonymous tip-off, detailing Hulk's improper dealings with certain businessmen. But the content of the letter was too vague, providing no concrete evidence," James Duke explained.
Lynn pondered for a moment, then slowly spoke: "I understand. Since there's no direct evidence, we need to start with Hulk's social connections and financial situation to find clues."
James Duke nodded in agreement: "Exactly, that's why we came to you. You have extensive experience in investigations, and we hope you can help us find a breakthrough."
Lynn took a deep breath, knowing this task would not be easy. But he also knew that as an investigator, he had a responsibility to uncover the truth.
"Okay, I accept this mission. But I need more information, such as Hulk's background, work experience, family situation, etc."
Over the next few days, Lynn thoroughly investigated Hulk's background information and secretly observed his life and work.
He discovered that although Hulk appeared incorruptible on the surface, he had close private dealings with some businessmen, and his spending level clearly exceeded his legitimate income.
However, despite Lynn finding these suspicious points, he still couldn't find conclusive evidence to prove Hulk's bribery.
He began to feel anxious and pressured, even starting to doubt if his investigation direction was correct.
Just as Lynn was in a difficult situation, he suddenly received a call from a You-Know-Who.
The You-Know-Who told him that he held key evidence of Hulk's bribery and was willing to meet Lynn for a transaction.
Lynn's heart leaped with joy, but then a surge of caution arose. He knew this You-Know-Who might not be simple, and this transaction might be a trap.
But to uncover the truth, he decided to take the risk.
The meeting place was set at a secluded coffee shop.
Lynn arrived early and chose a hidden seat.
Soon after, a man wearing black sunglasses and a dark trench coat walked in. He looked around, then walked directly towards Lynn.
"You are Lynn?" The man took off his sunglasses, revealing a stern face.
Lynn nodded: "That's right. You are the You-Know-Who?"
The man smiled slightly: "You can call me Shadow. I have evidence of Hulk's bribery, but you must agree to one condition."
"What condition?" Lynn asked cautiously.
Shadow leaned closer to Lynn and whispered: "Help me get rid of someone."
Lynn was shocked: "Are you crazy! I'm an investigator, not a killer!"
Shadow remained unmoved: "As long as you agree to my condition, I can give you the evidence." With that, he pulled out a USB drive from his pocket and dangled it in front of Lynn's eyes.
That was the key that could expose the truth and bring Hulk to justice.
Lynn fell into thought. He knew he couldn't agree to Shadow's condition, but he also longed to get that USB drive.
He looked up at Shadow, a hint of determination flashing in his eyes: "No, I can't agree to you. But I will find the evidence through legal means and expose Hulk's crimes."
Shadow seemed unsurprised by Lynn's answer. He smiled: "Good, you have backbone. Then let's see who can find the evidence first."
With that, he turned and left the coffee shop.
Lynn took a deep breath. He knew this contest had just begun.
He had to investigate Hulk more deeply, and also be wary of Shadow's movements.
He believed that as long as he persevered, the truth would eventually come to light.
As night fell and the streetlights came on, Lynn and Hans, dressed in formal attire, entered the magnificent hall.
Tonight, a high-society ball was being held here, with celebrities gathered and lights shimmering.
Their mission, however, was to monitor an official named Hulk amidst this splendor and find evidence of his bribery.
After entering the ball, the two dispersed into the crowd, exchanging information with glances and subtle gestures.
Lynn held a glass of champagne, superficially chatting with various guests, while secretly observing Hulk's every move.
Hans, meanwhile, hid in a corner, recording every possible clue with his professional equipment.
However, as time passed minute by minute, Hulk behaved entirely like a normal guest.
He smiled and conversed with people, occasionally danced, and conducted himself properly, showing no suspicious behavior.
Lynn and Hans began to feel a bit anxious. Was their intelligence wrong? Or was Hulk truly so cunning that he could hide his crimes in such a setting?
Just as the two fell into confusion, Hulk suddenly walked towards them.
His face bore a playful smile, as if he had already seen through their intentions.
"Good evening, gentlemen," Hulk greeted them proactively. "By the looks of you, you don't seem to be enjoying this ball."
Lynn's heart skipped a beat, but he maintained his composure: "Oh? Mr. Hulk, why would you think that?"
Hulk smiled, a hint of cunning flashing in his eyes: "My intuition tells me that your purpose here isn't simply to enjoy yourselves. If I'm not mistaken, you're monitoring me, aren't you?"
Upon hearing this, Hans immediately tensed up. He instinctively tightened his grip on his equipment, fearing that Hulk might discover it.
Lynn, meanwhile, took a deep breath, trying to ease the tension.
"Mr. Hulk, you do like to joke," Lynn chuckled. "We're just here to attend the ball. There's no special purpose."
However, Hulk didn't seem to believe their explanation. He slowly shook his head, his tone becoming serious: "No, you're not. I can tell from your eyes that you have something planned for me. And I also know I've gotten into some trouble recently."
