A week had passed since the rogue attack that ruined everything. The excursion got canceled right after—the principal said it was too dangerous to continue. "We'll investigate," She promised, but it felt like an excuse. Two days back at the academy now, and life was supposed to be normal again. Classes, dorms, meals. But nothing felt normal. Not with the whispers following me everywhere.
I sat in my dorm room, staring at the ceiling. Tessa was out with friends, leaving me alone with my thoughts. They always circled back to him. Damien. I hadn't seen him or any of the Kings since we returned. The Eye of Aetherion was locked away somewhere safe, and we all went our separate ways. But my mind kept replaying that week ago, right after we surfaced from the ruins.
