Captain America raised his shield to block!
Clang—!
With a thunderous crash, Steve was blasted backward by the enormous force, skidding across the ground as the pavement beneath his feet cracked and collapsed. The gargoyle leader's other claw followed immediately, slamming toward his flank!
Spider-Man's webbing arrived just in time, wrapping around the gargoyle leader's arm and yanking hard, forcing the attack off its original trajectory. The razor claws plunged deep into the concrete beside them.
"Thanks, kid!" Steve panted.
"No problem, Cap! This guy's really strong!" Spider-Man gritted out.
Iron Man's concentrated beam cannon slammed into the gargoyle leader's back, blasting off chunks of stone—but it didn't deal a lethal wound. Instead, it only enraged the monster. It whipped its head around, opened its maw, and spewed out a thick, highly corrosive dark green breath straight at Iron Man!
Tony dodged instantly. The breath scraped past his armor, and a corrosion warning blared across his HUD. "Friday, its shell strength is abnormal!"
Roaring, the gargoyle leader began spewing its breath indiscriminately. The area of destruction was huge, severely hindering the heroes' counterattacks and further evacuation.
"We need heavier firepower!" Tony shouted as micro-missiles popped out from his shoulder mounts.
Just as the heroes were about to focus their fire on the big brute, a yellow-suited figure strolled unhurriedly through the battlefield and stopped directly in front of the gargoyle leader.
The gargoyle leader clearly noticed the tiny human who showed not a hint of fear. Feeling provoked, it let out a threatening growl, raised its massive claw, and prepared to smash the bald head into pulp.
"Saitama!" Peter shouted in delight.
Tony lowered his hand from the missile trigger. "Oh, great. Looks like we're out of a job."
Cap also let out a breath, though he still kept his shield up—ready for any flying debris.
Saitama looked up at the towering gargoyle leader and yawned. "You're blocking my way home."
The gargoyle leader's giant claw came crashing down!
Boom!
Dust and smoke billowed.
When it cleared, Saitama was calmly holding back that claw with one hand—casual and effortless. His body didn't budge an inch, and the ground beneath his feet didn't even crack any further.
A flash of shock crossed the gargoyle leader's crimson eyes. It tried to force the claw down, only to realize it couldn't press even a fraction. Furious, it lifted its other claw and opened its mouth—dark green breath gathering deep in its throat.
Saitama's free hand swung forward in a lazy punch.
The motion was relaxed, almost like it carried no power at all.
The instant his fist made contact, the gargoyle leader's massive body jerked stiff. Starting from its head, cracks spread across its entire form like lightning!
In the next moment, the gigantic gargoyle leader exploded like a mine that had detonated from within—shattering into countless tiny grains of stone dust. The breath it hadn't even managed to spit out turned into a wisp of blue smoke and dispersed.
A light breeze passed, and even the dust drifted away into nothing, as if the enormous monster had never existed.
Only Saitama remained in his punching pose. Then he lowered his arm, scratched his head, and said, "Oh. That's done."
The remaining gargoyles, as if they'd lost their backbone, became disorganized and sluggish. They were quickly cleaned up by the other heroes.
The dark green clouds in the sky began to disperse as well. The strange rain stopped. The evening sunlight poured down again, illuminating a street left in ruins—but no longer in danger.
