Chapter 7 - Justice

Jake went to his room, got his car key and came back down.

Jake: Thanks for your help, Mr. Lucas.

Mr. Lucas: Please call me Lucas.

Jake: Thank you, Lucas.

Mr. Lucas: The pleasure is all mine.

Jake: You can go back home now. I'm sure she must be waiting.

"Who is 'she'?", Jenny thought to herself as she came down the stairs.

Her mom had told her to put on a hoodie to hide her scars and she had returned hearing her dad and Mr. Lucas discussing.

Mr. Lucas: No, it's okay. I'm pretty sure you'll need my help anyways.

Jake: Are you ready? (He said turning his head to Jenny).

Jenny: Yes (She nodded).

They all got into the car and Jenny sat at the backseat with Mr. Lucas as her dad drove to D.P.D (Dallas Police Department).

When they got there, they met an officer, explained what happened to the officer, provided details and evidence and got a case file. Mr. Lucas did most of the talking so things went smoothly.

Officer: We'll make sure to investigate and we'll call Ryan, Tyler, Cody and Bryce for questioning.

Mr. Lucas: Great.

Officer: But these are juveniles, so we'll have to transfer this case to the Dallas County Juvenile Department.

Mr. Lucas: How long would it take?

Officer: Just two weeks. After two weeks, go to the Dallas County Juvenile Department and try to get a response from them.

Mr. Lucas: Sure.

Officer: Jenny Roberts...

Jenny: Yes, sir.

Officer: Please follow me. We have to snap your scars as evidence and send it to the Dallas County Juvenile Department.

Jenny followed him to a room, when they got inside, she saw a lady with a camera.

Lady: Good day, officer.

Officer: Good day CSI. I want you to snap her scars and send it to the Dallas County Juvenile Department for evidence.

Lady: Yes, officer.

He then left, leaving Jenny and the lady alone.

Lady: Have a seat.

Jenny: T-thanks (She stuttered, feeling a little bit uncomfortable).

Lady: So, tell me. What's your own story?

Jenny: Got assaulted, harassed and raped.

Lady: Wow. Triple threat, huh? Who did it?

Jenny: What?

Lady: Everything. The assault, the harassment, the rape, and the scars. Who did it?

Jenny: Some bullies at my old school.

Lady: Age?

Jenny: We're all sixteen but we'd be turning seventeen this year.

Lady: What can I say? There's nothing more intense than highschool drama. Come on, take off the hoodie so I can do my job.

Jenny took off the hoodie and when the lady saw the scars on her body, her jaw dropped.

Jenny:(Confused) What happened?

Lady:(Shocked) The... the scars.

Jenny: Didn't you know about them?

Lady: I do, but I didn't know they'd be this much or this deep or this... intense.

She came forward, wanting to get a closer look at the scars.

Lady: Are you sure these boys are sixteen.

Jenny: Yes. (Confused) Why did you ask?

Lady: Cause it looks like some animal did it.

Jenny: Yeah, they're very crazy.

Lady: How did this happen?

Jenny: I was about going to a supermarket around my neighbourhood and I was outside my house with my mom and they spoke to me rudely along a sidewalk that was very close to my house. My mom defended me and they left and I went to the supermarket. On my way back, they suddenly appeared and refused to let me pass then they took me to their hideout and finished the job.

Lady: Finished the job? What job? Were they instructed by someone to do this to you ?

Jenny: No, it's just a little weird saying "they raped me" so "finished the job" is more preferable.

Lady: Okay. I'm terribly sorry.

Jenny: It's okay, it's not your fault.

Lady: So, what? Are you okay or...?

Jenny: I'm okay. I mean, I've cried a little. Nothing left to do.

Lady: Okay, so let me take this picture real quick.

She got her camera and took some pictures of the scars.

Lady: I'm done. You can head out now.

Jenny: Thanks.

Lady: It was nice chatting with you. Really kept me thrilled in this boring place.

Jenny: Thank you.

Lady: Wish you luck on the case. Good bye.

Jenny: Good bye.

Jenny left the room and met her family outside with Mr. Lucas.

Jasmine: The officer said we could go.

Jenny: Nice, I'm hungry.

Jasmine: What do you want for lunch?

Jenny: Tacos would do.

Jasmine: When we get home, you'd have tacos.

A few days later Ryan, Tyler, Cody and Bryce were called for questioning. And after two weeks, the Juvenile Department had already made up their mind. When the Roberts got there, they met with a juvenile officer.

Juvenile officer: As it stands now, Ryan, Tyler, Cody and Bryce have been taken to the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center cause they're considered a danger to others and this offence is very serious.

Jenny felt a little bit at ease after hearing his words.

Juvenile officer: But this case is not yet closed. This is still very serious. So we have decided to have a formal juvenile court case before a juvenile judge. And we'll have a hearing, so you can bring your lawyer. And we'll cut to the chase next month.

Jake: Awesome.

Juvenile officer: See you next month.

He stretched his hand forth to Jake, and Jake shook it.

Jake: Same here.

The Roberts left the Juvenile Department and went home.

When they got home, Jenny began to prepare for her therapeutic sessions with Mr. Lucas.

They chatted in Jenny's bed room.

Mr. Lucas: Your dad told me you all went to the Juvenile Department. So, how did it go?

Jenny: It went pretty well. We met with a juvenile officer and he said that Ryan, Tyler, Cody, and Bryce has been taken to the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Centre cause they were considered a danger to others. And they have decided to have a formal juvenile court case before a juvenile judge. And they'll have a hearing, so we can bring our lawyer.

Mr. Lucas: Okay, that's nice. So have you got a lawyer who could win this case for you?

Jenny: Honestly, I really don't know. I'm just leaving it all to my parents.

Mr. Lucas: Okay. So how did you feel when you heard that Ryan, Tyler, Cody, and Bryce were in the Juvenile Justice Centre?

Jenny: Actually, I felt kind of relieved and excited. Can't wait to see and hear their final judgment.

Mr. Lucas: Look at you, healing so quickly.

She grinned happily.

Mr. Lucas: You look better being happy. But I don't know why it doesn't last for long (He whispered to himself).

She gave him a puzzled look.

Jenny: Did you say something? Were you talking to me?

Mr. Lucas: No. Better keep that spirit going (He grinned at her).

Jenny: Sure, I will... If it lasts for long (She whispered the last part in a low tone).

Mr. Lucas: That's good to hear (He stood up and approached the door). I'll see you tomorrow.

Jenny: Same. Goodbye.

Mr. Lucas: Goodbye.

He left Jenny's room, went downstairs and saw her parents in the living room.

Jake: Mr. Lucas... (He got up from the couch).

Mr. Lucas: Jenny told me everything. About the boys and the court case they'd be having next month. So, have you got a lawyer for the case?

Jake: Actually... (Sighs) We don't have anyone to defend our case.

Mr. Lucas: Well, I know a pretty good lawyer who would be glad to defend our case.

Jake: Awesome.

Mr. Lucas: I could give you his number so that you can be able to talk to him and contact him about the situation.

Jake: Of course, send it right away.

Mr. Lucas connected Jake with a good lawyer, and after days of communicating with the lawyer, he agreed to defend the case. They began to prepare for the juvenile court case. They'd hired a very good lawyer, had enough evidence and were well prepared for the juvenile court case.
