MHGA Chapter 257 – The True Heroine and Kazuma's Jealousy
A massive wall of fire ignited from the gasoline trail, burning straight toward the two oversized barrels of explosives Kazuma had left behind—each big enough to fit two people.
Just before departure, V, Lucy, and Yorinobu Arasaka watched as the entire villa district behind them exploded in a thunderous blast, the building reduced to a pile of rubble…
"I'm telling you, your hacking methods are completely unorthodox," V muttered through clenched teeth.
"That wasn't even hacking!" snapped Lucy, a legit former Arasaka netrunner.
As for Yorinobu, who saw his bastard father's body vanish in the explosion—he actually thought the detonation was beautiful.
Meanwhile, back near Arasaka Tower, Kairo Retsu and his group, in pursuit of the rampaging Kirin that had already wreaked havoc along the way, suddenly received a message from Kazuma.
And then—
"Kairo Retsu!! Have you no heart?! Why is everything getting dumped on me again?! Why the hell is Lucy over here?!!" Kazuma roared, devastated.
"Huh?" Kairo blinked, dazed. "Lucy? Wasn't she with David, being protected by Naofumi?"
"Wha—?!" Naofumi's voice chimed in from Kairo's channel, equally confused. "Lucy was knocked out by Maine's crew and taken to Afterlife by Falco and Kiwi, wasn't she? I'm protecting Maine and the others!"
"WHAAA?!?!" Kairo let out a shrill screech—proof of his unrefined soul.
"Nani?! My plan went off the rails again?!"
"Stop shouting! So what do we do now?!" Kazuma yelled back. "Lucy wants to help David… and Saburo Arasaka is already dead. What's your plan for Mikoshi?!"
"You're saying this… while I'm…" Kairo turned to look at Kirin, who was currently bounding across rooftops near Arasaka Tower, electricity crackling from its body as it began scaling the tower's outer wall toward the top.
His brain kicked into overdrive.
Just then, a new message popped up in the Hunters' shared channel.
Himmel: "I've dealt with all the monsters on my end. The villagers are expressing their thanks. I'll arrive within thirty minutes."
Himmel's message gave Kairo the final push he needed to make a decision.
"Joseph! Head straight to the top of the tower!" Kairo shouted.
"Now's our chance for an Elder Dragon-tier boss fight! Heaven's chosen is watching over us today!!"
"We're gonna hit Mikoshi with everything we've got—just like in Joseph's Stand drafts!" Kairo clenched his fist.
"Everyone, prep for impact!"
"Hey! Hey?!" Kazuma tried to follow up with what to do about Lucy—
Meanwhile, Lucy stood within the camp, watching the sky darken under nightfall and rolling thunderclouds, a deep unease welling in her heart.
"David… why did you go face Adam Smasher alone?" Lucy muttered, fists clenched.
She wasn't even sure anymore why things had ended up like this.
David's secrets… why he liked her… why he joined Maine's crew… she didn't know any of it.
But just knowing David was out there, risking his life against Adam Smasher, made Lucy's heart ache.
"Can't you… stop Adam Smasher somehow?" she asked Yorinobu.
But Yorinobu shook his head.
"Even if I could, David wouldn't allow it."
During the brief time Yorinobu and David had spoken, David had already laid everything bare.
To David, Adam Smasher wasn't just a monster—he was the opponent David had to overcome. A symbol. A blockade. A final test on the road he'd chosen for himself.
No matter what David might achieve later, Adam Smasher was the one demon only David himself could exorcise.
"David…"
Lucy bit her lip and stood up, intending to leave the base—but Kazuma blocked her path.
"Where do you think you're going?!"
"I want to try… to help David somehow," Lucy said. "I know I can do something."
"If you go now, David's gonna hate me!" Kazuma cried, flustered. "It's way too dangerous!"
"I know I probably can't help him in combat… but I just can't sit back and do nothing. If I did that, David would…"
"He'd be all alone again," Lucy said desperately. "He always tries to do everything by himself."
"…I don't want him to go through that anymore. He deserves a better choice." Lucy covered her face, her voice fading.
Her words cast a heavy silence over the entire camp.
Kazuma made a face like he'd bitten into something sour.
And honestly, Kazuma was starting to get seriously steamed—at David.
Damn it! Kazuma-sama was a protagonist too! So why didn't he have a girl like that at his side?!
It had to be the malice of the world!
Yeah, that was it!
Ever since he brought Aqua into that other world, the whole universe had been cursing him!!
"Damn it all!! Why does everything get dumped on Kazuma-sama's shoulders?!!!" he roared, yanking at his hair—then suddenly disappeared from the camp, teleporting back to the Hunters' base.
Lucy's heart sank. She thought Kazuma had rejected her plea, and her expression dimmed even further.
But then—
Kazuma reappeared inside the camp again, right in front of her.
"…Fine! Go already!" he said, stepping aside to make room.
"Damn that David bastard… He'd better come to my world and work his ass off to repay me! And buy me some nice fizzy booze too…"
"Really?!" Lucy's face lit up with joy, and without wasting another second, she rushed out of the camp, heading off to find David—to do whatever she could.
Yorinobu looked visibly anxious.
"Are you sure this is okay?! Adam Smasher won't pull his punches…"
"What the hell else could I do?! She said all that! And besides, she's right!!" Kazuma shouted back.
"So all I can do now is come up with something else!!"
He sounded genuinely hurt.
"Damn it… all the other Hunters are such damn normies…"
"You… came up with something?" V narrowed her eyes.
"What did you do while you were gone?"
"Obviously, I begged Granny Felyne!!" Kazuma declared, a mix of pride and desperation in his voice.
"I begged her to let Lucy be David's Handler! I, Satou Kazuma, am a true gentleman! How could I possibly ignore a crying girl?!"
