Outside of the Inn—
Syla was seen strolling across the streets, her cloak hood once again put up on her head and she moved along the abundant civilians who were also walking towards their own destination, whether it's for work, buying groceries, or just to immerse themselves with the town's atmosphere, it was a pleasant experience for Syla.
She watched as countless birds landed on the rooftops of multiple houses, with their gorgeous and colorful feathers, they painted the sky with their wings as they flew towards another place in search of food, or just to follow where the wind will take them.
'There's really a lot of birds in this town.. True to their name, Beakwood..' Syla thought with a faint smile.
While the sun was rising in the horizon, pouring its glimmering light towards the earth, Syla who was looking at a shop that sells armor suddenly saw a cat passing by.
"Hm?" She was quite surprised when she saw the passing feline.
Its appearance was similar to cats on earth, and Syla couldn't helo but wanting to touch it, even if it's just a little bit.
"Cute.." She uttered unconciously.
Then, slowly her hand began to stretch, getting closer and closer to the cat infront of her as Syla bend her upper half down to reach for the cat. However, just as her finger was about to touch the cat, it was startled by Syla's face, especially her eyes that looked similar, the cat thought that Syla was another cat except she was tall and had a weird shape than a normal cat, so the cat quickly ran away from her, squeezing through narrow space and jumping to the top of a platform which then used to get to the top of a house.
"Aw.. I thought i had it." Syla said while frowning. "Well, whatever.."
Syla was about to be done with the cat and shrugged it off from her mind when out of nowhere, she heard a loud footsteps coming from her side. She looked at the direction of where the footsteps was coming from and saw a child running towards her while panting heavily.
The child, whose age looked around 10 to 12 approached Syla, and stopped right before he hit her. Syla was obviously confused as to why a kid like him just stopped abruptly, she assumed he wanted something from her, so she waited as the kid took a couple breaths to fill his lung with air before he collapses.
"Hey you!" The kid said, raising his head to look at Syla.
Due to his height being shorter than her, the kid was able to see Syla's face beneath the hood, and she noticed her unusual eyes that looked inhuman and was shocked.
"Woah!? Miss, you're weird.." He said.
"—Do you need anything?" Syla asked, not sure with the kid's intention yet.
"Ah right– Why didn't you capture that cat from earlier!!" The kid scolded Syla whilst furrowing his eyebrows, as if frustrated at her for letting the cat escape.
"Huh?.. What do you mean? Is that cat yours?" Syla asked again, she finally had some idea about the kid's intention in approaching her.
'So that cat was this boy's pet..' She thought.
"YES!! I've been chasing her for the past 10 minutes!! Aghh!! She was so close to being caught by you! If only i arrived a little bit sooner to tell you about it.." The kid said, his expression quickly turn into disappointment as his lips frowned to his late arrival.
"I see, well sorry– Maybe i can help you search for her, how about that?" Syla said, offering help to the boy's problem.
"Huh? You're going to help!? But i don't have any money to pay for it.." The boy hesitantly said, he was being cautious of Syla.
"You don't need to pay me, i just want to see the town, since im new here– I think searching for a cat while exploring is a good way to spend the day." Syla responded, she smiled at the kid and offered her hand to him.
The kid went silent for a few seconds, as if thinking about whether he should accept Syla's help or not, and when he thought that just him alone wouldn't be enough to capture his cat, he eventually accepted the help and shook Syla's hand.
"Alright.." He said.
"Okay, what's your name?" Syla asked.
"—Seth."
"Nice to meet you Seth, you can call me Syla." Syla introduced herself, although she can't tell Seth that she was a demihuman, she still hoped that he won't be shocked when he knew about it. "Then, let's search for your cat, i saw her climbing to the roof of that house, so let's check the back of it."
Syla pointed her finger towards the house that was previously climbed by Seth's cat.
"Okay.." Seth replied, he slowly followed Syla as the two of them walked towards a narrow path that leads towards the backdoor of the houses in the area.
Step!
Step!
A few seconds after they entered the narrow path that was blocked from the sunlight, Syla and Seth arrived at a small openings where there was a lot of wooden basket that was filled with pile of wooden logs that had been smoothed out.
"What is this place?" Syla said accidentally.
"You don't know? This is the wood storage, people use these woods for their fireplace or cooking." Seth calmly answered, though he wasn't expecting Syla to not know about it.
"Ahh, i see, i thought the people that lives here is a woodworker.." Syla said.
"Where do you come from miss?" Seth suddenly asked.
"Huh?" Syla was startled by the question. "Hmm.. I came from Direwell"
"Direwell? Hoohh, that's the town on the Southeast isn't it?" Seth replied.
"I think so." Syla didn't really know the answer, so she just agreed.
Just then, Syla sniffed a smell that felt familiar, she approached the right side of the wood pile and noticed the scent becoming stronger. Seth himself had no idea what Syla was doing when she approached the pile of woods out of the blue, seeing as how she was smelling the surface of the woods, Seth thought that Syla might have caught a scent of his cat.
And true to his prediction, Syla soon called Seth to leave the place.
"I think i know where your cat is." She said.
"You know?!" Seth was surprised by Syla's amazing sense of smell.
"Yeah, she went to the other side of the street." Syla said before walking through the narrow path again, this time she moved forward, continuing the path until it ended at the other side.
"Okay, i'll believe you!" Seth said, his trust towards Syla steadily improving as time pass by.
'The scent.. Im sure it's over there..' Syla thought.
Thanks to her heightened sense of smell from being a demihuman, Syla was able to quickly track Seth's cat, since she was standing next to her earlier, Syla caught the cat's scent in her nose and was able to know if there was a familiar scent.
Step!
Step!
As the two left the narrow path between two houses, they then entered the main street once again, this time on a completely different side from where they came from. Syla looked around for any sign of Seth's cat and she accindetally caught a glimpse of it far infront of her, it was sitting beside a food vendor, seemingly waiting for a food to be dropped for her.
"There she is!" Syla said to Seth.
He immediately looked over to where Syla was pointing at and saw his cat on the same spot.
"Ah! That's it! Let's go!!" He was about to cross the street that was filled with carriages when Syla pulled his tunic collar and dragged him back to where she was standing.
"Watch out." Syla said.
Clack!
Clack!
"Ah, right.. Thank you miss. Syla." Seth scratched the back of his head while looking at Syla.
"Good grief.. You shouldn't cross the street recklessly like that, though the carriages may stop before you get hit, it could startle the horses and causes them to go wild." Syla explained.
"Really? How do you know?" Seth abruptly asked.
"–Uhh.. I've seen a lot." Syla answered after a few seconds of silence.
'Actually i knew it from when i was still living on earth– I remember horses being easy to get scared of because they're a prey animal, they could even get scared by their own shadows..' She thought, glancing to the side as if not wanting to see Seth's face.
"Anyway, don't just run like that without looking what's on your side, come on- Your cat's waiting." Syla said before she guided Seth to cross the street.
