Chapter 60 - Overrest

"You could say that, but i never had any intention of saving anyone back then just myself.." Syla replied.

When the healer that previously healed Syla saw the man infront of her, she suddenly greeted the man while bowing.

"Hello, Mr. Marrick." The healer said.

"Hello." Marrick replie.

The healer then went on to the next patient, leaving Syla with Marrick together, not wanting to disturb the conversation between them.

"Marrick?" Syla said before remembering the time when she first arrived at Direwell.

"Direwell was known to be one of the more 'free' town in this county, the town's chief, Marrick, is someone that believes in equality for every nonhuman species."

"You're the mayor?.." Syla asked, her eyes widened after realizing who the man standing right infront of her was.

"Hm? Ahahaha.. You know me? I guess that makes things easier." Marrick said while laughing.

Syla who was sitting at the time then stood to greet Marrick properly, she offered a handshake while still wearing her robe and Marrick took the offer with a smile.

"What's your name?" Marrick asked.

"Ah, it's Syla sir.. Syla Clawenfall." Syla answered fairly quickly.

"Are you an adventurer?"

"Yes, i registered a few days ago as an A-Rank." Syla then tried to show Marrick her necklace with the gold adventurer's plate, only to realize that her necklace was gone.

'Damnit, did that Bruke guy stole all of my things?! First was my sword, and now my adventurer's ID..' Syla thought frustratingly.

"Is that true?!" Marrick was visibly surprised upon hearing Syla's adventurer rank. "I see why you were able to defeat the kidnappers now, you're stronger than you look."

"A- ahaha.. Thank you, but to tell you the truth, that guy i killed earlier was also incredibly strong, there's a big chance that he could've killed me if he hadn't dropped his guard.." Syla tried to not get flustered at the compliment, she explained that her strength was still lacking compared to the enemies around the world.

"Eitherway, im glad the situation has calmed down now, i personally give my thanks to you, for saving everyone, Syla Clawenfall." Marrick slightly bowed down to show respect.

Syla who saw the mayor bowing down to her, could only react with bewilderment, she wasn't sure what to do, and in the end, Syla just smiled back at him and told Marrick.

"You don't need to be so polite sir.."

Marrick lifted his head up and looked at Syla dead in the eye for a few seconds.

"As i thought, there's no such thing as an inferior race is it?" He said

He then tapped her shoulder before walking towards the healers and the other patients that were laying down.

Syla turned her head to glance at Marrick, it seemed like his last words earlier left a deep impression in her, she finally understood why everyone in Direwell loved Marrick and was glad to have a leader like him.

'You're a good person.' Syla thought.

Two days later—

After Syla killed Bruke and let the guards captured the remaining culprit, the situation had almost completely been taken over, the skinny man who's an earth mage was taken for questioning, and around the same time the guards also discovered the carriage that was used by the kidnappers to get away from Direwell.

They found the carriage outside the west wall, it was buried under a fake mound that acted as a camouflage, along with the carriage, the guards also found the secret passage tunnel that connected the basement to the carriage's location, they immediately seized all of the things that was inside the carriage while also closing the passage until there's no holes left.

Everyone that were injured in the incident was treated, those who lost their limbs unfortunately had no way to be healed, since Direwell isn't a huge town. they didn't have much healers, even within their church, there were only a few healers, and none of them had the ability to heal lost limbs.

Although most of the injured went home with a healthy body, some had to go back without one of their legs or arms.

Fortunately, Marrick promised that he would give every family of those who were injured a compensation, especially the family that got their house destroyed or broken. In the end, everyone slowly returned to their daily lives, with the only exception in West District where a massive reconstruction was being worked for the destroyed house.

As for Syla, she was told to stay for a few more days by Marrick, and so she stayed at Marrick's house for approximately a week, without going outside or adventuring, she only ate meals from the personal butler and maid while occassionally sleeping in the bedroom throughout the whole day.

Chirp!

chirp!

The sound of a flock of birds can be heard calling for Syla from the window, she looked at the cloudy sky outside, her body still laying down on the bed and her eyes half closed.

"—Goddamn, it's boring.." She said. "Not doing anything for this long in a world without electronics.. It's surprisingly tough."

"Ahh.. What should i do.." Syla wondered before rolling her body to the left and right continuously, while she was staying at Marrick's house which undoubtely looked more luxurious than the rest of the town, she experienced something that she never had before- And that is what it feels like to be rich.

"Can he just let me go now? I feel like im gonna die of boredome if i stayed any longer.." Syla was talking about Marrick, he thought that there should be no reason for him to make her stay this long if it's just to let her rest after that exhausting day.

She then got up from the bed and walked towards the window that she looked at from earlier, Syla sticked her head out of the window and stared at the town's scenery infront of her, since the room she's in was at the second floor, Syla could see almost everything clearly.

"Look at this.. I can see the mountains in the horizon- And also– A tall cliff.." She said as glanced at every direction.

Not long after Syla stood at the window, a strong gust of wind blew towards her, the wind went inside the room while Syla's white shirt flapped intensely.

"I wonder where this wind came from.. Must've been a cold place." She said, enjoying the breeze when out of nowhere, the bedroom door was knocked by someone.

Knock knock!

"Huh?" Syla was startled at the sudden noise, not wanting to make anyone beyond the door wait, she quickly walked over to the door and opened it.

As it turns out, one of the butler in the house was the one that knocked the door, he abruptly greeted Syla before announcing that she was called to go downstair.

"Miss Syla? Someone called you in the first floor." The butler said, he looked somewhat old but doesn't have that much wrinkles on his skin.

"Ahh, is it Marrick? What is it?" Syla responded as she walked out of the room and followed the butler downstair.

When she arrived at the first floor, Syla met with more butlers and even maids, but this time she also saw Marrick standing infront of the house's frontdoor, waiting for her.

"Ah, Syla!" Marrick waved. "Did you get enough rest?"

"Way too much." Syla replied half-jokingly. "Where have you been?"

"I've been busy, dealing with the aftermath, there's many things that needed my permission and i can't let them all wait." Marrick said as he took a couple steps forward. "Anyway, the reason why i came here is to talk about your reward."
