Chapter 46 - Little Work

On one of the streets in Direwell—

Syla walked on the side with her cloak still covering her body all the way to the bottom, she had been walking from the adventurer's guild for over 5 minutes when she noticed a small alleyway that was hidden from the sunlight, the alleyway was squeezed between two houses and it seems like it will leads Syla to somewhere dangerous, yet despite the danger, Syla stared at the alleyway for a few seconds before entering.

After she entered the alleyway, she walked for about 30 steps in before stopping abruptly and turning her head towards the main street, the light that was coming from it seems almost blinding among the darkness of the alleyway.

'This should be far enough.' Syla thought.

She leaned hed body against the wall and opened her hood before checking her satchel, inside it was an empty food box, water jug that still have a bit of water in it, and a few coins.

"Haahh, this isn't enough to buy a new outfit– This blouse costs around 3 silvers back then, and i only have 1 silver now– 2 if counting the bronzes too—

"With this much, all i could buy is probably a tunic, i mean it's better than nothing, a normal shirt usually costs around 5 coppers, including the pants or skirt then it would be a silver... I will be left with 1 silver and 8 coppers, since 10 coppers equals to 1 silver—

"If a meal in here cost 3 coppers, and if i have to eat 2 times a day since breakfast is prepared from the inn, then that's 6 coppers a day, that means— Damn! I would only survive for 3 days with just 18 coppers.."

Realizing that she might need to gather some money sooner than she had expected, Syla knew that she would have to do quests as an adventurer if she doesn't want to stay with an empty stomach.

After thinking about it for a while, Syla decided to forget about it until the next day, since she hadn't received her adventurer plate or ID, she won't be able to take any quests in the guild.

"I'll start taking quests tomorrow, for now i think im gonna explore the scenery outside of town." Syla said before pushing her body away from the wall behind.

Before she went out of the alleyway and into the main street again, Syla saw a movement in the corner of her eyes, when she turned her head to focus on that movement, she saw a paper that was about to fly away from the wind.

"Hm?" Syla grabbed the paper on the ground and noticed that there was a text written on the other side of it.

"Missing Person, Laurel Egèrra.. An adventurer, last seen 3 days ago– That's before i arrived in the town, witnesses claimed she left Goldboar Inn at night, reward if found: 5 Golds.." Syla reads the text quietly, it turns out the paper was a poster of a missing person, the person in the portrait that was clearly hand drawn looked beautiful, the description beneath the reward text said that she had a black long hair, blue eyes, big breasts, and a mole under her nose.

Syla looked at the drawing for a while, etching the image into her brain incase if she ever finds the person, once she was done looking at the poster, she then threw it again on the ground, Syla left the alleyway and slowly makes her way towards one of the entrance gate in Direwell.

"Why would that girl leave the inn at night, does she not know about basic survival knowledge?" Syla whispered to herself, making sure that no one that was passing by her could hear it.

.

Outside of Direwell, near the farmland, 1:00PM—

Stab!

Syla strikes her sword down at a slime beneath her, her blade precisely pierced through the center, causing the slime to dissolve and turn into liquids, she looked at how the slime dissolves and seeps into the ground when a shout was calling to her.

"Hey!!" Syla turned her head towards the source of the voice and saw an old man waving and calling her from the farmland.

"Thanks for the help young girl!" He said with a smile of gratitude.

Soon after, another man appeared and approached Syla, he wore a full armor on his body and is holding a spear, it seems like he was a guard for Direwell.

"Did you kill all the slimes in this area?" The guard asked Syla, his eyes glanced at the multiple wet grass in his surrounding, realizing that those wet grass are are covered with dead slimes liquids.

"Yeah, i saw a few of those slimes gathering, that grandpa over there asked me to kill them, so i did." Syla answered as she puts her sword inside the scabbard on her back.

"– Thank you! Usually its our job to kill nearby slimes and monsters since they will eat the crops at the farmland if they were left undisturbed, but you did it this time– Are you perhaps an adventurer?" The guard politely thanked Syla and appreciated her kindness, he wondered if she was an adventurer since he doesn't usually see anyone doing it except for a quest.

"Umm, not yet, i already registered, but my adventurer's plate is still being made and i'll receive it tomorrow." Syla answered again, still keeping her solemn face as if it didn't trouble her at all.

"I see, then since you've made my job a bit easier, please accept this gift, it's not much, but this should be enough since it wasn't a difficult job anyway, it's just time consuming." The guard said as he handed Syla 2 silvers from his pocket.

"Wait, really?" Syla was surprised to see the money, she never thought that she'd get paid for doing the bare minimum effort, killing slimes takes no effort at all since they can't move fast and only slither among the grass, it shouldn't be hard too for the guards, so why is he giving Syla this much?

"Then, i'll accept it.." Syla said, taking the coins from the guard's palm and thanked him afterwards.

After they were done giving their thanks, the guard then walked back to the entrance gate, Syla on the other hand walked the opposite direction from the guard and instead approached the nearby tree that was at the top of a hill, she laid down on the grass while also resting herself inside the shadow below the leaves.

The weather at that day was windy and Syla could feel strong winds blowing from every direction, although her clothes were still torn apart, she had her cloak to cover it up from other people.

"Oh yeah.. Since i got an additional 2 silvers now.. That makes it 3 silvers and 18 coppers.. So in total i have 4 silvers and 8 coppers— Should i search for the same blouse at the clothing shop?.." Syla wondered as she stares into the sky.

Far from where she at, was a dirt road that leads to an unknown place, an unknown town that isn't Demiria, a new place where Syla could discover new people, new things– And new problems.

A carriage with roof was passing by on the dirt road, inside the wagon, multiple people was sitting in it with no one talking, as the horses galloped through the uneven terrain, one of the people inside the carriage that was wearing a hood was shaken by the sudden roadbumps, the hood on that person falls down and revealed an unknown face, a man that looks to be in his 20's with cyan hair and deep blue eyes, his expression looks gloomy, and on his lips, a scar that looks to be from a claws was visible, making his face even scarier to others.
