Step!
Step!
As Syla was walking on the corridor inside be Adventurer's Guild building, she noticed a few people passing by her, their expression seems different from one another, at some point she saw a man smiling, while the other times she saw another one frowning.
Syla walked with Nomi, with Nomi at the front to guide her towards the guildmaster room, when Nomi noticed Syla looking at the passing receptionists, she opened her mouth to explain.
"They're people that have business with the guildmaster, wanting to create partnerships or establishing their business idea into the guild for profit."
"I see.." Syla said while her eyes was focused on the massive banner that was hanging on the wall.
"Just to let you know, usually new adventurers won't get this kind of treatment, most of the time, they will receive a low rank such as E or D, with a few C's every once in a while. Only those who managed to achieve B and A-Rank gets to meet with the guildmaster for further confirmation.. Long story short, you're amazing." Nomi said, praising Syla once again at her achievement.
"I- is that so.." Syla didn't know what to say, she could only get flustered from the praise.
After a few more seconds of walking, both Syla and Nomi arrived infront of a door, Nomi knocked on the door and called the guildmaster.
"Guildmaster!" She said.
"Who is it?" A rough voice was heard from the other side of the door, it sounded like it belongs to a man in his 50's.
"It's Nomi Ruthera, im here for a new adventurer registration." Nomi answered.
After waiting a few seconds for an answer from the guildmaster, he finally allowed Nomi to get inside.
Gradually Nomi began to open the door, Syla saw the interior inside to be quite neatly clean, however only after the door was wide opened Syla realized that, the clean part of the room was only at the side, as after she looked at the center of the room, a pile of papers and ink spills was everywhere on the table.
"Nomi huh, is there anything wrong? You said you're here for a new adventurer registration." The guildmaster said, his face was revealed to be a 57 years old man, his hairs dyed maroon with black gradients, his eyes glowed in yellow and his figure was tall while also muscular.
When the guildmaster saw Syla and the state of her clothes, he immediately knew that she had just fought with Swen, which led him to think about the reason why she was here at his room.
"Wait.. Is this girl here–" He said, his voice was cut off before he could guess.
"Her name is Syla Clawenfall, she's here for your further confirmation about her registration, Mr.Swen had given her an A-Rank approval, he also said that he could beat her in the fight if he hadn't ended it sooner." Nomi said, her face was surprisingly stoic, it seems like she was incredibly serious when facing the guildmaster.
"Swen gave her an A-Rank!? You're not lying?" The guildmaster said, he wasn't sure about Nomi's story yet.
He then looked at Syla with an intense gaze, as if he was inspecting her body, then out of nowhere, his tone drops to a low and almost intimidating voice.
"Sit down on the chair." He said.
Syla felt chills coming across her spine, she didn't think that a person could exude this much aura through voice alone, she sat on the chair as the guildmaster had ordered and was face to face with him.
"Umm, may i ask what we're doing?" Syla asked, only to get ignored by everyone in the room.
Both Nomi and the guildmaster went silent after Syla sat down on the chair, while Nomi didn't want to interfere with what the guildmaster's was doing, the guildmaster on the other hand was only staring at Syla for the entire 15 seconds.
'What's wrong with this dude!?' Syla thought, she felt the situation was awkward.
"How old are you." The guildmaster suddenly asked.
"Huh?!" Syla was surprised by the question as it came out of the blue, however she quickly calmed herself down. "I'm 18 years old.."
"Hmm.. You can use magic?" The guildmaster asked again.
Syla who previously felt awkward and weirded out by the atmosphere, had began to adapt and soon she was able to stay calm infront of the guildmaster, for her, at this situation, showing emotion means worsening the atmosphere.
"Yes, i can use fire and water magic." She answered nonchalantly.
"Show me." The guildmaster briefly moved his lips, as if trying to smile, but he held it together and kept his cold face.
Syla then raised her right hand, imagining a burning fire before the real one appeared just as she had imagined ontop of her palm. After she showed the guildmaster her fire magic, Syla then moved on to water magic, she used the same technique, imagining a flowing water in her mind and summoning it into reality.
Water began flowing out of her palm, and the guildmaster who had prepared a wooden mug under his table for the scenario, gave it to Syla which was filled with the water soon after.
"Alright, you pass!" The guildmaster said after witnessing Syla's magic. "Congratulation, i can't believe it, you're only 18 and yet you're already this strong!? I don't want to imagine what you'll become when you reached your 20's."
The serious and cold faced guildmaster suddenly disappeared just like that, his demeanor was almost a direct 180 degree rotation from what she was a few seconds ago, his face was smiling and he praised Syla for her strength.
He then stood from his chair and asked Syla for a handshake.
"T- thank you.." Syla replied as she accepted the handshake.
"Ahh, i forgot, i haven't introduced myself– My name is Malgrave, the guildmaster of Direwell's adventurer's guild." The guildmaster who was named Malgrave then let go of the handshake and walked out of the room.
He instructed Syla to follow him as he was going to give her the gold plate that represents the A-Rank adventurer. It didn't took a second for Syla to agree and walked behind Malgrave, Nomi also followed them from behind Syla.
Syla was brought to a door that leads to the basement, and at the underground, she entered a room akin to a smithing place, there was a furnace, an anvil, and a lot of rare materials piling up while the workers or the blacksmiths there worked with it.
In that place, Syla was given the gold plate, freshly forged a few days ago, with the Widewent Kingdom symbol and the letter A carved into it.
"Do you want a card too? We can make one for you if you'd like, however it'll take a day or two, so you'd have to come back tomorrow." Malgrave said, he looked at Syla who was staring at the small gold plate on her hand.
"You mean like an ID? is it a requirement?" Syla asked.
"You can dismiss it if you want, the gold plate alone is already enough proof for you to get inside towns or cities, however since the plate is small and prone to get lost– You know, it'd be cheap if it were a copper or silver plates, but a gold plate? That'd be expensive, so—" Malgrave didn't have to say everything, as when he was at the middle of his explanation, Syla abruptly cuts him off.
"Okay okay, i'll get an ID– But, what if i turn this gold plate into a necklace?" Syla said.
'Gauss also had his plate as a necklace..'
"Necklace? Hmm.. You can, but you'll need to pay– Ah! I'll give you a discount, how about 5 silvers to turn your plate into a necklace?" Malgrave answered, making Syla drop her jaw when she heard the price.
"5 silvers!?!" She said in shock.
'That's almost everything i have left..' Syla thought, contemplating if she really wants to turn her gold plate into a necklace. 'Urghh.. Will it be fine if i put it inside my satchel?– But then what if the handle gets cut off by something and the satchel fell into somewhere i can't reach?"
After a minute of thinking, Syla decided to accept the offer and paid 5 silvers to get her plate turned into a necklace, Malgrave said that the necklace will be durable since he knows that adventurers often get into battles and will be injured here and there.
In the end, Syla left the smithing room with only 1 silvers and 18 coppers in her satchel, she was about go to the main hall where many of the adventurers were gathering when she remembered that her outfits had been torn.
'Ah.. what do i do now..' She thought.
