Lucien tightened his grip on the steering wheel as he drove toward the enemy's mansion, the weight of his decision heavy on his chest. The sprawling estate loomed ahead, shrouded in an air of foreboding. He had one mission: return Aaron to his father, but deep down, he knew this wasn't just a simple exchange. He had seen the darkness that enveloped Aaron's family, and he couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for the boy's father.
As he pulled up to the grand entrance, Lucien took a moment to collect himself. The memories of his own father flooded back—how love could strengthen a bond but also shackle it with fear. He stepped out, the cold wind biting at his skin, and made his way inside.
His father once picked him up and made him feel as though he was flying, while his mum used to tuck him in bed and his dad used to come and give him kisses while fitting countless advice of different fields in his 10 year old brain back then. But as they were now dead, suddenly his eyes burned.
Inside, the atmosphere was tense. Aaron's father, a man with sharp features and cold eyes, awaited him in a dimly lit room. "You brought him back," he said, his voice a low growl.
Lucien nodded, his heart racing. "I didn't kill him," he replied firmly. "I know what it's like to be a father. The love you have for your child is something you can't fathom until you have one of your own."
The man's expression softened momentarily. "You understand, then. But know this: stay away from my son's life. Seraphine is a dangerous distraction for him, so keep her away."
Lucien felt a surge of protectiveness. "I know. But if you hurt my son or wife again, I won't hesitate to act."
Aaron's father merely nodded, a silent acknowledgment of the threat. Lucien turned and walked out, the weight of the encounter lingering in his mind.
Back home, the familiar sounds of laughter and the soft coos of baby Daniel filled the air. Seraphine was changing Daniel's diaper, her expression focused yet tender. Lucien leaned against the doorframe, watching her with admiration.
"You're a natural at this," he said, breaking the silence.
She glanced over her shoulder, a playful smile gracing her lips. "You should try it sometime. It's not as easy as it looks."
"Remember what happened last time I changed? He got poop all over his bed. Want that?"
Seraphine laughed at the flashback.
Lucien stepped closer, leaning against the dresser. "I've seen you with him. You make it look effortless."
As she finished, she lifted Daniel into her arms, cradling him gently. "Have you thought about Aaron?" Seraphine asked, a hint of concern in her voice.
Lucien's expression darkened. "I know he's troubled. I don't want him to come even an inch closer to you."
"Do you think he'll listen?" she asked softly.
"I hope so," Lucien replied, his voice low. "But I can't keep him captive forever. Hmm.. But I can keep you as long as I want" He smirked.
The air between them thickened, a tension that was both comforting and unsettling. Lucien stepped closer, his gaze intense. "You don't know what it does to me, seeing you with him. Knowing that anyone could come between us."
Seraphine's breath caught in her throat, a mix of flattery and confusion. "Lucien, I—"
But he silenced her with a finger to his lips, his eyes darkening with possessiveness. "I need you to understand that you're mine, Seraphine. And I won't let anyone take you away from me. And don't you dare think about another man unless you want my hands stained with his blood. Remember that my angel. I am yours."
Flustered, she turned her gaze down to Daniel, who was now gurgling happily. "We should get him ready for bed."
Lucien's demeanour shifted, the tension easing as they prepared for the evening. They changed into their sleeping suits, the comfortable fabric a welcome contrast to the day's events. As they settled in, Lucien gestured toward the piano room.
"I have something for you," he said, a hint of excitement in his voice.
Seraphine raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
"A melody I wrote just for you," he replied, taking her hand and leading her to the grand piano in the corner of the room.
With Daniel still in her arms, Seraphine watched as Lucien sat down, his fingers hovering above the keys. He began to play, the notes flowing effortlessly from him, filling the room with a hauntingly beautiful melody.
As the music enveloped them, Lucien's voice joined in, singing lyrics that spoke of loss and redemption, of a man who had lost everything but found hope in love.
"I lost my way, my heart in despair,
But then you came, a breath of fresh air.
In the shadows I wandered, so lost and alone,
But your light found me, and now I'm home."
Seraphine felt the emotions swell within her, the music weaving a tapestry of longing and connection. She swayed gently, Daniel nestled against her chest, feeling the rhythm of Lucien's heart echo in the melody.
"I lost my fears, my doubts, my pain,
With you by my side, I'll never be the same.
In the chaos we dance, through the storms we'll fight,
For you are my love, my beacon of light."
As he played, Lucien's gaze never left hers, his passion evident in every note. Seraphine's heart raced, the words resonating deep within her. She could see the man behind the darkness, the one who was capable of such beauty.
When the song came to an end, the room fell silent, save for the soft coos of Daniel. Lucien looked up, his expression a mix of vulnerability and intensity. "What did you think?"
"It was… incredible," she breathed, still caught in the moment. "You are the first poetic mafia I met"
His expressions darkened as he replied sternly, "And the one you will ever meet."
"Yup!"
He smiled, a genuine warmth that lit up his features. "I wrote it for you. To remind you that even in darkness, there's always hope."
Seraphine felt tears prick at her eyes, overwhelmed by the depth of his feelings. "Lucien, I—"
But before she could finish, he stood up and approached her, his hands gently cupping her face. "I want you to know that I'm here for you, no matter what. I'll protect you and Daniel with everything I have."
The sincerity in his voice sent shivers down her spine. "I believe you," she whispered, leaning into his touch.
Lucien's gaze softened, and he kissed her forehead tenderly. "Get some rest, Seraphine. Tomorrow, we face whatever comes our way together."
As she settled down with Daniel, her heart swelled with a mix of fear and hope. Lucien's presence was a constant reminder of the battles they would face, but it also brought a sense of security she had never known before.
In the quiet of the night, with the echoes of Lucien's melody still lingering in the air, Seraphine closed her eyes, ready to embrace whatever challenges lay ahead.
