Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Friday – The Playlist of the Night

After the cake-cutting, Elora, Amelia, and Seraphine retreated to a private room on the second floor, seeking a quieter corner away from the bustling crowd downstairs. The room buzzed with the low hum of conversation, sunlight streaming through tall glass windows, turning the silk curtains into glowing sheets of gold.

Elora leaned back on the velvet chaise lounge, resting one hand on her small baby bump. "Honestly, Sera, you look like you stepped out of a fashion magazine," she teased, scanning her friend from head to toe.

Amelia laughed, looping an arm around Seraphine's waist. "She's right. That dress? The hair? Even your earrings are taunting us mere mortals. How do you manage to look so flawless?"

"Oh, please," Seraphine said, waving a hand dismissively, but a smile crept across her face. "I just try to keep up with you two. Like Amelia, that glow of yours? It's illegal. You could light up a whole block with that face."

Amelia chuckled, brushing her hair back. "It's all the work magic, I guess. But seriously, I'm just trying to survive the cravings I get after spy duties! I almost polished off an entire cake last night."

Seraphine grinned mischievously. "And don't think you're escaping, Miss Elora. That red dress? Deadly. You're lucky Magnus doesn't lock you in the house."

"Ha! If he tried, I'd just climb out the window," Elora replied, feigning seriousness. "But really, you both look stunning. I feel like I'm in a competition for the best-dressed award every time I'm with you."

Seraphine shook her head, laughing. "You two are ridiculous. We should just start a fashion blog and call it 'The Three Glorious Gals.'"

Amelia leaned in, her voice low and playful. "So… are we going to talk about how Seraphine is glowing lately? Either it's love, or Lucien's feeding her some expensive skincare made from unicorn tears."

Elora snorted into her drink. "If it's unicorn tears, I want the link. But seriously, Sera — how are you really? After… you know."

With a faint smile, Seraphine swirled her champagne. "I'm fine. Better than fine, actually. I still dream about certain nights — the danger. But every time I see Daniel smile, I remember why we're still fighting. It gives me strength."

Elora reached out, squeezing her hand. "Good. Because if you start pulling a tragic heroine act, I'll slap you back to reality."

"Exactly! We can't have you going all broody on us," Amelia added, her tone light but sincere. "We need you to keep being the fierce warrior you are, not some damsel in distress."

Seraphine chuckled softly. "You two are terrible, but I appreciate it. It's good to know I have my own cheerleaders."

Elora shrugged playfully. "We call it 'supportive darkness.' Like, if you ever get kidnapped again, we'll send you memes instead of ransom money. Keep morale up."

Amelia chimed in, "And maybe a cake shaped like Lucien's grumpy face. Just to remind you what you're fighting for."

The three of them burst into laughter, their voices blending with the distant sounds of the party.

Elora leaned back, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. "But seriously, let's not forget to check in on each other. Life can get so busy, and I don't want to lose touch."

Amelia nodded. "Agreed! Maybe we should have a monthly girls' night? Just us, some good wine, and a lot of gossip."

"Good wine to get drunk and call our husbands for backup if we start puking?"

They burst into laughter again!

"Yes! And we can plan a little getaway too. Maybe a weekend at the beach?" Seraphine suggested, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Count me in!" Elora exclaimed. "I could use some sun and sand. And trust me, I'll bring the best snacks."

"Only if you promise not to eat them all before we get there!" Amelia teased, nudging Elora playfully.

"Hey! I can't help it if I have an insatiable sweet tooth during pregnancy!" Elora replied, laughing.

Seraphine smiled warmly at her friends. "I love this. No matter what happens, we always have each other."

"Yes, and I wouldn't trade this dark, vulgar friendship for anything," Amelia added, raising her glass. "To us!"

"To us!" Elora and Seraphine echoed, clinking their glasses together.

As they settled into comfortable conversation once more, the laughter and warmth enveloped them, creating a safe haven amidst the celebration.

Suddenly the door opened wide, and the girls glanced only to find Ethan making his way up with a crawling Daniel. Elora and Seraphine immediately grabbed them. Ethan was the first one to speak, "Mommy, they are dancing and they are asking you to come. And Auntie Seraphine and Aunty Amelia too." He said weakly, but with a voice filled with enthusiasm.

Down in the garden, as the party continued, the first fat raindrops began to fall against the tall windows, casting a gentle rhythm on the glass. Guests initially ducked under the veranda, murmuring about the weather, but Magnus, ever the instigator he was, stepped out onto the marble terrace with a mischievous grin.

"Come on, everyone!" he called out, as he took of his jacket and started rolling up his sleeves. "A little rain never hurt anyone!"

Asher followed him immediately, shrugging off the weather like a challenge. Lucien, with a resigned smile, joined them, shaking his head in mock disapproval. "You two are going to regret this," he warned, but the twinkle in his eye betrayed his excitement.

Suddenly, the speakers outside shifted to a bass-heavy beat — unmistakable for anyone who'd been near a Filipino party in the last decade. The familiar song began to play, its infectious rhythm urging everyone to move.

"Gentlemen, shall we?" Magnus said, striking a pose as the first notes hit the air. The trio moved into sync, slow shoulder waves and quick hip shifts, splashing rainwater in playful arcs. The guests under the awning exchanged amused glances, unsure whether to join or spectate.

Asher spun dramatically, dragging his palm across the air in a flourish. "Look at that move!" he shouted, earning cheers from the crowd. Magnus dropped into a low sway, his laughter infectious, while Ethan burst into uncontrollable giggles, clapping along to the beat.

Lucien, usually the picture of cold precision, surprised everyone by breaking into sharp, rhythmic steps. His soaked shirt clung to every muscle as he danced with an unexpected abandon, hips snapping in perfect time to the beat. "Who knew you had it in you?" Magnus teased, his voice a mix of admiration and disbelief.

The rain began to pour harder, plastering their hair to their foreheads, but the trio only moved faster, their energy igniting the atmosphere. Hips rolled, feet stomped, and arms sliced through the air as if they were commanding the storm itself. The crowd erupted in laughter and applause, the gloom of past weeks momentarily washed away by the rhythm and rain.

Inside, the girls all opened the windows on the first storey and watched. Elora covered her mouth, half-laughing, half in disbelief. "Your man dances like he's leading a military operation!" she exclaimed, watching Lucien with an amused expression.

Seraphine's eyes softened, her heart swelling with pride. "And winning it. Just look at him go!"

Amelia tilted her head, grinning widely. "I don't know whether to clap or call the fire department. This is getting out of hand!"

As the song shifted to a lively crescendo, more guests began to venture outside, drawn in by the infectious energy. Elora stood up, nudging Seraphine. "Come on, let's join them! We can't let them have all the fun!"

With a nod, Seraphine laughed and followed her friend outside, the rain cascading down around them. The moment they stepped onto the garden, they were enveloped by the music and laughter, the beat vibrating through their bodies. The rain amidst the dark night with lights on like a firework was a magnificent sight to behold.

"Do you think we can keep up with them?" Elora shouted over the music, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

"Of course! Just follow my lead!" Seraphine replied, pulling Elora into the rhythm. They began to sway and twirl, their laughter mingling with the music.

As the rain continued to fall, the dance floor transformed into a joyous spectacle. Friends and family joined in, creating a circle around the dancing trio. The atmosphere was electric, with everyone moving in sync, celebrating the moment and the joy of being together.

Those who had initially hesitated now to let loose, abandoning their reservations. The sound of laughter and cheers filled the air as everyone danced, their spirits high despite the rain.

"Look at us!" Amelia shouted, grinning from ear to ear. "We're like a scene from a movie!"

"Exactly! Just add some dramatic slow-motion!" Elora replied, striking a playful pose as she danced.

As the song reached its peak, the trio of boys pulled the girls into the centre of the circle, and together they formed a lively conga line, laughter echoing as they moved in unison. The raindrops sparkled like diamonds in the party lights, each splash adding to the magic of the evening.

Finally, as the last beat hit, the group locked in a sharp pose, rainwater dripping from their fingers and soaked clothes. The crowd erupted into applause and cheers, celebrating the joyous abandon of the moment.

Daniel, who was also wet, now held in Seraphine's arms, clapped his tiny hands together, babbling happily as if he understood the significance of the night. He grinned widely, his little face smeared with frosting from earlier, embodying the pure joy of the celebration.

And in that moment, as laughter echoed around them and the rain continued to fall, it was clear: this was a night worth remembering, filled with friendship, love, and the simple joy of togetherness.
