Chapter 73 - Ascension to Supreme

The Wandering Palace trembled the moment the two keys became one. A powerful force left the newly formed key and spread out through the palace. The structure seemed to come to life. Each inch of it was breathing with a kind of life that could even confound the gods. This was the power of destiny. The Wandering Place was changing, and no one knew how much these changes would overhaul the palace. Cate stood in place with her eyes closed. She walked back to her rooms and sat on her bed in a lotus position. She felt the world around her change. She was the master of the Wandering Palace. She was bonded to the palace with a connection that could never be fully described in words.

She took deep breaths and calmed her mind. Cate had seen many things in her very long life, but she had never experienced anything like this. She no longer saw the world as it was but as it was meant to be. She sensed the flow of the wind and heard the cries of the birds. Cate felt the things around her age as they were affected by time. The earth beneath the palace changed with each second as all manner of life lived and died.

The servants in the palace were clearly visible to her, but she did not have her eyes open. She felt them go about their work, cleaning up the mess that was caused by the shaking of the palace. She felt them breathe and use up their life force. Each time their chests moved, they got closer to death, but this did not seem to bother them. It was as though they did not notice that with each passing second, they courted death.

Cate reached Mary's room. Mary was seated on her bed, relaxing as she read some kind of novel. Her eyes were focused on the words on the pages. Cate stayed and kept her focus on Mary for about an hour before she was pulled away by some powerful force. Cate then found herself in a world filled with nothing. There was no light, and darkness was nowhere to be seen. In this place, she was all alone. She was the only thing in existence.

Cate began to panic since she did not fully understand what was going on. She tried using her magic, but nothing worked. In this place, Cate was all alone with her thoughts and feelings. She screamed as loud as her lungs would allow, but no sound was produced. She was all alone, and she had to accept this fact. After calming down, Cate began thinking about what was going on. With her powerful deductive ability, she went through hundreds of possibilities in just a few hours. All these were proven to be wrong assumptions.

Cate finally reached the only conclusion that made sense. "My body must have experienced a great influx of power, far beyond what it could handle. The only option after that would have been death, but I am a sorcerer with a great urge to live. My desire to live until the day I can get revenge on the gods must have allowed my will to sublimate fast enough that I instinctively began my breakthrough to the Supreme Sorcerer realm." Cate thought.

There were many magicians in the world. These people have the ability to wield the magic of the world. Still, there were weak and powerful magicians. A magical power was determined by their level of understanding of magic. The levels of magical understanding were Novice, Apprentice, Master, Supreme, Legendary, Mythical, and Divine. Cate was a master sorcerer. This level of magician was not shameful, but it did not make one an elite in the supernatural world.

Long ago, before Cate became a gorgon, she had already become a master sorcerer. She was stuck at this level for the rest of her life. She was then beheaded, and that was the end of her journey towards greater magical understanding. To break through from being a master magician to a supreme magician, one needed to comprehend the nature of magic and attain a higher willpower. There were many more requirements apart from these two. The most important was perhaps the concentration of magical blood flowing through one's body.

The Blood of the Old One was what separated magicians from humans. Normal humans can never become magicians unless they have the blood of the old ones in them. The concentration of this blood determines how far one can go on the path of magic. This is a fact that can never be changed. In her past life, Cate was stuck as a master sorcerer, and she believed that the only thing that was stopping her from moving forward was the fact that her parents were normal humans with very little magical blood, and this meant that Cate had even less of the blood of the old ones.

Medusa gained new life as Cate, and this time, she had a very high concentration of magical blood. After all, the Danescu clan was an ancient sorcerer clan that could trace their origins to one of the Old Ones. Cate believed that with this powerful lineage, she would easily reach the Supreme realm and even go further. Cate had been partly right as she quickly reached the master sorcerer's realm. Unfortunately, she ended up being stuck at this level once more.

Cate had already increased her magic comprehension to a level where she was sure that Supreme Magicians were no match for her. This was seen when Cate easily killed a judge during her examination to join Avalon. Cate even believed that legendary magicians were her only equals when it came to magical understanding. She even had a thought that she could perhaps even match Mythical Magicians.

With this level of magical understanding and the powerful bloodline of the Danescu clan, Cate was left confused by why she could not break through to become a supreme sorcerer. It was only in this moment that Cate finally understood why she had been stuck for so long. The Supreme Realm required comprehension, bloodlines, and a powerful will, but this was not all. One also needed to accept that they were part of the larger world.
