POV: Ren
After returning to Earth, the world resumed its rhythm—as if it had never paused. The clouds drifted as usual, the wind danced in the leaves, and the birds chirped their morning melodies.
But inside me, something had quietly shifted.
Their words—Astraea's, Elira's, and the goddesses'—lingered in my heart like warm echoes. I had not gone to them to be praised or to be reassured… and yet they gave me those things without asking, without demanding anything in return.
I wanted to do something for them in return. Something small, something pure.
So I did the only thing that came to my mind.
I bought flowers.
It felt silly at first, standing outside the flower shop near school with a light blush across my face. The vendor, a kind old man with a wide smile, tilted his head when I stammered my way through my request.
"Seven bouquets?" he asked. "That's a lot for a young man like you."
I flushed red and fiddled with my fingers. "U-Um… it's for… people who are important to me."
His smile widened. "Then it'll be my honor to help."
Each bouquet I chose was different—thoughtfully matched to the feeling they inspired in me.
For Astraea, a bouquet of moonflowers and white lilies. Calm, noble, radiant. She was the moon that watched over me.
For Elira, soft blue forget-me-nots and baby's breath. Gentle, loyal, quietly radiant. She was the spring breeze I never wanted to lose.
For Kaelira, fire-red tulips and sun orchids. Fiery and brilliant, just like her unwavering heart.
For Selphira, delicate blossoms of lavender and feather-petaled roses. Regal and composed, but soft at the core.
For Nyxara, midnight violets and trailing silver vines. Enigmatic, eternal, endlessly curious.
For Luneth, pale moon-dust chrysanthemums and a single glowing lotus. Timeless and serene, keeper of the stillness.
For Virelya, warm peach dahlias and golden camellias. The soul of life, bright and nurturing.
Once I returned to the empire, I walked to each of their chambers one by one.
When I handed Astraea her bouquet, she looked at me in soft surprise.
"Ren?" she whispered, brushing her fingers across the petals. "What is this?"
"I-It's just… a gift," I mumbled, eyes down. "To say thank you. For always… being with me."
She didn't speak for a moment. Then she placed a kiss on my forehead.
"You sweet thing," she murmured. "You've always been like this. Thank you."
Elira clutched hers like a treasure. "You remembered my favorite color," she whispered. "You always remember the little things."
I didn't know what to say. I just smiled and nodded.
Kaelira gave a bright laugh, twirling a tulip between her fingers. "You brought me fire disguised as petals. How thoughtful, my emperor."
I flushed. "I-I thought it matched your… strength."
She winked. "It does."
Selphira placed her bouquet into a crystal vase and bowed her head. "You continue to treat us with grace and care. We are fortunate."
Nyxara's eyes sparkled. "Your heart is a mystery I never tire of studying."
Luneth held the lotus to her chest. "A flower plucked from stillness… just like you. Thank you."
Virelya wrapped her arms around me tightly after receiving hers. "You are a blessing, Ren."
In their eyes, I saw something that humbled me even more than their power—joy.
For something so small… just flowers.
But for them, I had chosen it with my whole heart.
And when I returned to my chamber, alone and quiet, I looked at my hands again.
Not for what they held—but for what they could give.
Ren & Astraea — A One-on-One Chapter
POV: Ren
The air in the empire shimmered softly as I stepped out into the upper garden terrace of the Celestial Spire. The sky overhead pulsed with a gentle blue-gold light, painted by twin moons and the breath of ancient stars. The scent of nightblossoms clung to the breeze. It was always peaceful here—too peaceful for a heart like mine, still fluttering like a leaf on water.
I stood near the edge, hands folded nervously in front of me, waiting. Astraea had sent word earlier that she wished to speak alone. That wasn't unusual. She often checked in on me. But this time, it felt different—more like a heartbeat pressed close to mine than a command or summons.
She arrived as she always did: soundless, composed, beautiful in a way that made me feel fragile. Her silver hair caught the moonlight, and her golden eyes softened the moment they found me.
"Ren," she said, her voice a quiet melody that seemed to belong to this place more than I did.
I turned quickly, bowing my head as I did. "H-Hello, Astraea. I—I hope I didn't keep you waiting."
She tilted her head slightly, a small, amused smile brushing her lips. "You always worry about such little things."
"I don't want to be rude," I mumbled, clutching the hem of my sleeve.
She took a step closer. "You never are."
Silence folded itself around us, but it wasn't uncomfortable. She stood beside me now, our shoulders almost brushing. I felt her presence as surely as I felt the stars above.
"You've changed," she said suddenly.
I flinched. "I—I didn't mean to upset you…"
Her hand rose, resting gently against my arm. "No. Not like that. I meant… you're gentler now. Softer. Like you returned to the version of yourself I fell for long ago."
I looked down, heat climbing to my cheeks. "I… I just wanted to be someone good. Someone kind. I don't want to be feared."
She stared at me for a long moment, then turned to look out over the empire.
"You know, the first time I met you," she said, "you didn't speak for an hour. You just sat in the corner and kept folding little cranes from paper."
My heart squeezed with the memory. "I didn't know what to say."
"And yet," she smiled, "I couldn't look away."
I looked at her, startled.
She met my gaze, the golden light in her eyes glinting like dawn. "You don't realize how deeply your kindness runs. You think it makes you weak. But I've seen you face gods with that same kindness. And win."
I shook my head. "I didn't win. I just… didn't give up on being good."
She stepped closer, placing her hand gently on my chest. Her palm was warm.
"And that," she whispered, "is what makes you more powerful than any sword."
I didn't know what to say. I just stood there, cheeks warm, heart stuttering.
Then, softly, she rested her head against my shoulder.
"Will you stay like this?" she asked. "Forever innocent, forever kind?"
"I want to," I whispered. "I really do. But I'm afraid… what if I make mistakes?"
"Then we'll forgive you," she murmured. "We'll help you up. We'll keep walking with you."
The wind brushed against us. She didn't let go.
"Sometimes I think I don't deserve you all," I said, voice trembling.
Astraea lifted her head and looked at me with such intensity it made my breath catch.
"And sometimes I think the stars themselves weren't worthy of the boy who offered them flowers," she said.
I blinked. "You… you liked the bouquet?"
She smiled. "I placed every petal in crystal. I will keep them forever."
I was dizzy again. My ears felt hot. My voice came out like a whisper. "I'm glad you liked it."
We stood there until the moons had climbed higher.
Then, gently, she took my hand.
"Let's walk," she said.
We walked through the starlit gardens, where every flower bloomed just for us. And though she was strong, and I was powerful, in that moment we were just two hearts beneath the sky.
I didn't say much.
But I squeezed her hand.
And she squeezed mine back.
And that said enough.
