Chapter 245 - Chasing Ice and Thunder

Blinding lightning intertwined with crashing waves. Though Logan had never trained alongside Cynthia before, at this moment, the two displayed a flawless rhythm, fighting with unshakable synchronicity.

Their combined attacks shattered stone pillars within the icy cavern, blasting through a wall of frozen rock and tearing open an opening into the hollow heart of the mountain.

From the ruptured hole, dazzling light spilled outward. Frozen waves crashed violently as a white silhouette scrambled to dodge the oncoming blast. It tumbled forward, leaping out of the breach and skidding across the icy slope like a master skater, vanishing from sight in a heartbeat.

"Pika!!"

Pikachu shrieked in fury the moment it laid eyes on that familiar figure.

Logan had seen it clearly, even in the split-second before the escape. His eyes narrowed.

"It's Lorelei of the Elite Four!"

Logan leapt onto Dragonair's head and shouted, "Cynthia, we're going after her!"

Cynthia didn't waste words. She only nodded, one hand looping protectively around Yellow's waist before vaulting gracefully onto Milotic's back. In a flash, both champions gave chase—Logan soaring through the skies on Dragonair, Cynthia gliding across the snowbound slopes with Milotic.

Lorelei was seething.

She had teamed up with Bruno to face Red at Mt. Moon. Predictably, when Bruno tried to recruit Red into the Elite Four's cause—to "eliminate humanity and create a paradise for Pokémon"—Red had furiously refused. The battle that followed was intense and furious.

Then, at the height of that chaos, Lorelei struck. With a sneak attack, she froze Red solid, leaving Bruno to drag the ice-encased boy back to the Elite Four's stronghold.

But neither had killed him. According to Lance's ideology, their target was not all humans—only the "foolish, wasteful parasites" who squandered the world's resources. The goal was to create a world where only excellent Trainers could coexist in harmony with Pokémon.

And in Lance's eyes, Red was undeniably exceptional.

Though Red resisted, Lance still chose to spare him. Once Kanto was purged, when the new world was carved in stone, Red would be freed—allowed to live in it.

Lorelei personally found this ideology flawed. Sparing enemies who opposed them felt dangerous. But she couldn't deny that Lance's resolve was genuine. He carried not ambition for himself, but a vision for Pokémon as a whole, even if it meant staining his hands with sin.

That certainty, that arrogance born of overwhelming strength—that was Lance's charisma. And it was why Lorelei followed him so absolutely.

The only blemish on Mt. Moon had been Pikachu's escape. To Lorelei, a perfectionist at heart, that was unacceptable. Using her intelligence network across the Sevii Islands, she hunted down Pikachu's whereabouts. Days of effort had led her here—only for Pikachu to return with reinforcements and ruin everything.

She had wanted to remain hidden in the cavern, to avoid a direct clash. But against Logan, whose strength rivaled even champions, and with Cynthia herself at his side, Lorelei had no illusions. The woman who grew up in Sevii could sneer at Sinnoh, yes—but she would never underestimate Cynthia, the face of that region's strength.

Still, even knowing her disadvantage, Lorelei wouldn't give in.

Seated atop her Dewgong, Lorelei shot across the snowy mountains like the world's greatest skier. The terrain itself was hers—the land of eternal snow, the perfect domain of an Ice-type master. Yet no matter how swift her escape, she could not shake her pursuers.

Have you ever seen lightning bend in the air to chase someone?

Lorelei had.

From above, Logan's Dragonair soared. Bolts of electricity lanced from its horn, curving midair as if magnetically locked onto her. No matter how sharply Dewgong zigzagged across the snow, the electric strikes always bent to follow.

Forced into evasions, Dewgong's speed faltered. And that gave Milotic, gliding elegantly across the slopes, the opening it needed. Rings of water pulsed outward, not to strike directly, but to slow Dewgong's progress even further.

For a member of the Elite Four, this was humiliation. To flee relentlessly, unable to retaliate, harried by two trainers from both land and sky—it was an insult to her pride.

"Yellow, have Pikachu join Milotic up front and attack!" Cynthia commanded. Even as snow whipped against her face, she remained calm, her voice carrying authority.

"Yes!" Yellow clung tightly to Milotic's neck, squinting against the storm as she shouted to Pikachu. "Pikachu, help too!"

"Pika!"

The electric mouse bounded forward, leaping onto Milotic's head. Coordinating with Milotic's flowing water rings and Dragonair's lightning, it unleashed a crackling Thunderbolt, hemming Lorelei in further.

Her escape path was collapsing.

"Eevee!" Logan commanded sharply.

Perched on his shoulder, Eevee immediately transformed into Espeon. With a shimmer of psychic light, it teleported ahead of Dewgong's path—then, in a fluid flash, shifted again into Vaporeon, unleashing a beam of Ice Beam directly at the snowy ground.

A massive ice wall surged upward, several meters high, cutting across Dewgong's path.

"Dewgong, crash through it!" Lorelei snapped. She knew instantly what Eevee intended—and it infuriated her. An Ice Wall? Against her? She could summon one effortlessly, but breaking one… not so easy.

Before she could order further, Vaporeon leapt onto the top of the wall—and transformed again, flames erupting from its jaws. Flareon.

The Ice Beam she expected never came. Instead, searing fire clashed against Dewgong's retaliatory Ice Beam. The snow steamed and hissed, the air filling with blinding mist.

"Eevee—no, that thing can change types mid-battle?!" Lorelei's eyes widened in disbelief.

Caught off guard, Dewgong slowed to a halt. Lorelei realized grimly: she could no longer run.

"Cloyster—Pin Missile!"

With a flick of her wrist, she hurled a Poké Ball. Cloyster erupted from it, firing a drill-like barrage of spinning spikes. But she didn't aim at Eevee. Instead, the attack screamed toward Cynthia and Milotic.

Cynthia's eyes sharpened. "Garchomp—break it!"

With a thunderous roar, Garchomp burst from its Poké Ball, claws glowing as it cleaved the incoming Pin Missile apart. The shards exploded in icy bursts, leaving frost clinging to its scales. Garchomp growled, its claws rimed with cold.

"Not bad," Cynthia admitted. "An Ice-infused Pin Missile… that was dangerous."

Logan's voice cut through the storm. "Cynthia—together! Dragon-type attacks!"

For a heartbeat, Cynthia hesitated. Eevee was still in harm's way. But she glanced at Logan, then gave a sharp nod.

"Dragonair!" Logan cried.

"Garchomp!" Cynthia roared.

"Dragon Breath!!"

Two streams of blazing draconic fire surged downward, merging into a sweeping fan of destruction. Snow melted instantly, the land carved raw by the heat.

Lorelei threw herself behind Cloyster, commanding, "Withdraw!"

The combined attack scorched the ice, leaving a hundred-meter swath of devastation. Cloyster's shell smoked, Lorelei crouching behind it in the snow, panting, battered but alive.

Then, she saw it.

From the mist, a pink silhouette leapt—swift, graceful, wings shimmering like ribbons.

'What is that?' Lorelei thought, startled.

Logan's voice echoed above.

"Sylveon—Fairy Wind!"
