"Ugh... even the Supreme King is here."

Seeing Jaden Yuki appear, Blair's body shrank back slightly, her eyes brimming with fear.

The Supreme King.

The legendary king who once conquered and ruled the Other World.

Although in the era of the Ghost Girls, the Supreme King had long since become a relic of ancient history a legend from thousands or perhaps tens of thousands of years ago seeing him in the flesh was different. Even if she could only sense the power within his soul, it was enough to make any spirit tremble and submit.

"Ugh, Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring really screwed me over..."

"Why did I have to be so bored that I wanted to see the legendary Supreme King?"

Blair muttered under her breath, glancing at the cards in her hand.

"This kid's deck is so pathetic... how can I win with these antiques?"

Taking a deep breath, Blair turned her gaze back to Alexis.

"The duel continues, Alexis Rhodes!"

"I activate the spell card Pot of Greed, allowing me to draw two cards from my deck!"

Blair closed her eyes, and a dark aura surged around her.

"Here goes... Draw!"

A flash of light flickered.

Looking at the two cards held between her fingers, Ghost Ogre felt a surge of delight.

Good, if it's like this, I still have a chance.

"I activate the spell card Charge of the Light Brigade! I send the top three cards of my deck to the Graveyard to add one Level 4 or lower Lightsworn monster from my deck to my hand!"

As Blair shouted, the top three cards of her deck transformed into beams of light and flowed into the Graveyard.

[Lightsworn Sabre]

[Light Spiral]

[Shire, Lightsworn Spirit]

"Lightsworns?" Alexis wore a look of utter bewilderment.

What was going on with this child's deck? How was she switching archetypes in the middle of a battle?

"It seems these spirits from the future world also possess the power to call upon cards from their own time."

Jaden raised an eyebrow. While he found it unexpected, he wasn't particularly shocked. Since these spirits were essentially his own creations, it was only reasonable for them to have their own "cheats."

"Alexis, don't worry. Although a Lightsworn deck has powerful milling capabilities, using their monster effects requires paying a significant price."

"With her current Life Points, she can't sustain the effects of the more powerful monsters."

Jaden calmly reminded Alexis. While he knew the Lightsworns inside and out, he knew Alexis was seeing them for the first time.

"I... I understand." Alexis glanced at Jaden.

She found it strange that Jaden knew so much about cards she had never even heard of, but she believed in him!

"I add Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden to my hand."

Blair added the card from her deck, but as she looked at the jumbled code where the card's effect should be, a vein popped on her forehead.

"In this ancient GX Era, the system can't even read the effects of Tuner Monsters..."

"So this was a useless pull..."

"Forget it."

Blair sent the card she had just added straight to the Graveyard and presented another card from her hand to Alexis.

"I send Minerva, Lightsworn Maiden to the Graveyard to activate the spell card Solar Exchange!"

"By discarding one Lightsworn monster, I draw two cards, then send the top two cards of my deck to the Graveyard!"

Whirr!

Two more beams of light erupted from her Duel Disk and fell into the purple Graveyard zone.

[Celestia, Lightsworn Angel]

[Garoth, Lightsworn Warrior]

"Draw!"

She drew two cards from the top of her deck. Blair glanced at the monsters now residing in her Graveyard, and a smile curled onto her lips.

"Excellent. As of now, I have four different types of Lightsworn monsters in my Graveyard!"

[Shire], [Minerva], [Celestia], [Garoth].

Looking at the card in her hand, a red light flashed in Blair's eyes.

"When I have four different types of Lightsworn monsters in my Graveyard, I can Special Summon this card from my hand!"

"Come forth! Judgment Dragon!"

The girl gave a loud cry.

Behind her, a pillar of holy light descended from the heavens. A massive white dragon-beast appeared in the wake of the radiance. Its snow-white wings unfurled, scattering feathers of pure light behind its hulking form. A sacred glow enveloped the four-legged beast.

"Roar!"

It threw its head back and bellowed at the sky.

[Judgment Dragon]

[Level: 8]

[ATK: 3000 / DEF: 2600]

The mere presence of Judgment Dragon caused massive waves to rise from the ocean.

"This... this feeling, this pressure. It's nothing like a normal duel..."

Feeling the terrifying aura head-on, Alexis's heart raced, and fear instantly flooded her mind. This sensation was far too real. A normal duel could never produce such overwhelming pressure!

Could this be... a Shadow Game?

A horrifying thought surfaced in her mind. Alexis grit her teeth, desperately trying to overcome the rising dread.

Could this be how my brother was defeated back then... and why he disappeared?

"I activate Judgment Dragon's effect!"

"By paying 1,000 Life Points, I can destroy every other card on the field!" Blair clenched her fist and shouted.

"You... you only have 100 Life Points left! You can't activate that effect!" Alexis cried out.

"Oh, but I have a way to restore my Life Points."

Blair flipped a card from her hand. "I activate the spell card Dian Keto the Cure Master!"

"I recover 1,000 Life Points."

"And now, I use those 1,000 points to activate Judgment Dragon's effect!"

The spell card's light flickered. A kind-faced old woman appeared beside the dragon, cradling a white crystal ball. Green light surged from the ball and was absorbed into the dragon's body.

Immediately after, the dragon's power turned violent, unleashing a massive shockwave.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Every card on the field was shattered by the intense impact. Alexis's three monsters were torn into fragments amidst their dying screams.

"How can this be..." Alexis turned pale.

"Judgment Dragon, attack the player directly!"

Seeing Alexis's monsters completely wiped out, Blair smiled with joy and ordered the attack without hesitation.

At the command, Judgment Dragon roared and spread its wings, charging straight at Alexis.

"Aaaahhh!"

The impact was fundamentally different from a normal duel. Alexis let out a cry of genuine pain. The sensation was too vivid. It felt as if her body was being torn apart by the terrifying gale.

She collapsed to the ground, her entire body trembling uncontrollably from the agony.

A Shadow Game...

So, this is what a Shadow Game really is?

Having never experienced such a duel before, the fear and the urge to retreat surged within her. She stared in horror at the holy dragon surrounded by light. Alexis shook her head repeatedly, her heart reaching the brink of absolute despair.

There's no way to win...

In the face of this kind of power, I can't win.

Her monsters had been annihilated in an instant. She had nothing left in her hand to turn the tide.

I...

Pat.

Just as Alexis was about to break, a hand rested gently on her shoulder. Alexis startled and looked behind her. She found that Jaden Yuki had walked up at some point.

His gaze was fixed steadily on Blair or rather, on the Ghost Ogre possessing her. But the warmth from his hand caused the fear in Alexis's heart to vanish without a trace in an instant.

"If you can't go on, let me take over."

Jaden glanced at Alexis. He didn't want an outsider getting caught up in this. Since these were the spirits he had created, he had to be the one to resolve it.

"Jaden..."

Staring at Jaden's profile, Alexis felt an unknown emotion stir within her. It was a strange feeling. Even though Jaden hadn't said anything to comfort her, just standing by his side made her heart feel exceptionally calm.

Her fighting spirit reignited.

That's right... I am a Duelist.

My ambition is to defeat Jaden and become a professional just like him.

If I can't even defeat an elementary schooler, how could I ever be his opponent? How long will it take for me to truly grow and stand on equal footing with him?

After a moment of silence, Alexis's eyes gradually filled with determination.

Under Jaden's surprised gaze, Alexis stood back up. She took a deep breath, steadying her heart.

"Once this duel is over, I want you to tell me everything that happened, every single detail!"

She shot Jaden a sharp look. Then, she turned back to Blair, her finger resting on the top of her deck.

"I haven't lost yet."

"Don't underestimate me, Jaden!"

Her gaze narrowed. With a swift and powerful motion, Alexis drew a card from the top of her deck.

"It's my turn."

"Draw!"
