Chapter 92 - Chapter 92 – Slaying the Dragon

Every act of madness is an adventure in itself. That Drogo had survived this long with such domineering presence was thanks, in large part, to his overwhelming strength—and, in smaller part, to sheer luck.

Though he was desperately trying to distract Haixi, whose temperament he believed he already had figured out, and suppressing his own rising fury in order to banter with her, how could there not be even the smallest slip-up in such a gambit?

Even if the mermaid believed only the sky was worthy of veiling her hidden nobility, the sea dragon beneath her—and the loyal subjects unwilling to leave their khal—reminded her otherwise.

"Clatter! Clatter!"

"Khal, look out!"

"Your Grace, be careful!"

To Drogo's astonishment, it was his own people who had betrayed his position. It felt like swallowing a dead rat—nauseating and bitter. He cursed them silently: Idiots, can't even read the situation.

Drogo's voice cracked as he roared, "What are you still gawking at? Go! Get out of here!"

If they failed, the fleet under his command, capable of contending with any realm's navy, would stand no chance against Naga's onslaught. They'd be either electrocuted or smashed to splinters and fed to the deep.

But, contrary to Drogo's expectations, upon hearing his command, his warriors turned their ships around.

He was certain he wasn't seeing things—his ships were turning back!

"We stand with our Khal!"

"We stand with our King!"

The Dothraki and the Unsullied, joined by the Golden Company, cried out in unison with unwavering resolve.

No ordinary man could stand against the fiercest beast of the sea. The warriors entrusted their lives to him, and for a moment, Drogo was so moved he nearly wept. "You… you idiots… Fine. If we win, we all live. If we lose, we all die together!"

They were only ten yards from the sea dragon's vital spot—no room for stealth now. Gritting his teeth, a fierce light in his eyes, Drogo knew he had no choice but to go hard as stone.

All the shouting and chaos would surely alert even a salted fish, let alone Haixi. The sea dragon, wracked by pain with every roar, shook violently.

When she looked down, she saw that Drogo had already flown his dragon to a position beneath Naga's massive head.

But instead of panicking, her attention shifted to the curved blade in his hand. Having seen the fate of the white dragon, she firmly believed that the young drakes were no match for Naga.

Even if the dragonfire scorched Naga a hundred times, a single retaliatory blow from the sea dragon would bring all that pain back tenfold.

Haixi's keen vision allowed her to see the khal's weapon clearly. Her body trembled slightly. "Crimson and black ripples embedded deep within steel… Could that curved blade be Valyrian steel? Forged from magical alloys by the dragonblooded Targaryens, tempered by dragonflame and sorcery?"

But upon recalling her own identity, her scorn returned. "Just another mortal's fabled magic blade. If he thinks he can cut through my beast with that… dream on."

"Wildreed! Fight him! Devour your enemy!"

The sea dragon nodded mechanically and lunged at the father and son drakes, reluctant but obedient.

For Naga, this command was agony. Though its fangs were impervious to fire, the charred meat inside its mouth had already turned to mush. How was it supposed to bite prey with such loose, roasted gums?

Swallow them whole without chewing?

If you can come, I can go. Not one to sit and await death, Drogo shouted, "Drogon! Rhaegal! DRACARYS!"

The best defense against a monster like Naga was offense. Running would only hasten death.

Drogo had already prepared for the worst—separation from his dragons. But Naga's choice gave him a sense that he might live after all.

The sea dragon, still traumatized by previous burns, instinctively dodged the incoming spiral of dragonfire.

Its cowardice infuriated Haixi. Her lips trembled with rage as she berated the beast. "Those three brutes don't fear lightning! Is brute force all you're good for?! Can't you fight another way!?"

Seeing them argue, Drogo seized the chance to have the dragons chase and harass the flailing sea dragon.

Whether they could understand him or not, he shouted: "Flap those wings with all you've got! Get higher than that fish! You love seafood, don't you? Roast that damned mermaid for me!"

Daenerys, standing at the front of the deck, heard his words loud and clear. All the jealousy Haixi had stirred in her instantly vanished. There was no better proof of loyalty than trying to kill the temptress with fire.

The storm had passed, but harsh winds still howled. For the first time, Drogo flew alongside the clouds, wind roaring in his ears.

But there was no time for awe. He had only one goal: to win a chance at survival—for his wife, his warriors, and himself.

Realizing Drogo's strategy, Haixi panicked. She screamed, "He can't be allowed above me! Wildreed, fly! Fly like your life depends on it!"

In terms of agility, the dragons could not match Naga. But in flight altitude, the dragons had larger, stronger wings—and they took the advantage.

Soon, they soared past Naga. Without needing a command, torrents of flame poured down upon Haixi like a falling galaxy.

A father knows his sons—Drogo was right. Their favorite food in the sea was fish.

Scorched by the wave of heat, Haixi nearly leapt off the dragon in fright. She screamed, "Wildreed, dodge right! Quickly! Now!"

Naga was even faster to react, sensing the incoming blaze. It swung its head to the right with all its might—BOOM!—the flame barely grazed its hide before shooting into the sea.

Sssssss!

Dragonfire, the hardest flame to extinguish, clashed with its greatest natural enemy—seawater. It would still take minutes to neutralize it completely.

Naga slithered nimbly, the mermaid guiding it cunningly. Together, they relied on brute reflexes to avoid the burning rain.

With no rider to weigh it down, the drake flew higher. Unable to land a hit with its tail, Naga grew agitated, hissing hoarsely with rage.

Yet despite this advantage, Drogo lost patience—his long-suppressed fury bursting like a dam.

"RAH! Rhaegal, attack! Don't worry about me!"

With a roar, Drogo leapt from his green dragon's back, fearless, diving through the air.

Rhaegal didn't quite understand. Seeing his elder brother Drogon struggling with their father's weight, he considered diving to help.

But that moment of hesitation gave Naga the opening it needed. Its tail lashed out at him.

The drake was smart—it wouldn't end up like Viserion. It spat a stream of fire at the oncoming tail.

"CRACK!"

As soon as the flames touched it, Naga recoiled, yelping in pain.

Though her beast faltered again, Haixi didn't even look at it. Her cold eyes were fixed on the falling Drogo, waiting for the perfect moment to command Naga to swallow him—dragon and all.

She had no idea that Drogo, ready to die, had planned to stab Naga right in its weak spot.

As he descended to the sea dragon's neck, he reversed his grip and drove the blade downward with all his might. Haixi sneered and shouted, "A mere mortal weapon imbued with low-tier enchantments? And you think it can pierce my sea dragon's hide? How naïve!"

Drogo bellowed, voice shaking the sky:

"I don't just want to pierce it—I want to slay the dragon!!"
