Chapter 83 - The Miracle Of Love

A Quiet Comfort in the Desert

The sights of the setting sun in the desert were breathtakingly beautiful. In the distance, lights were scattered across the vast expanse of sand, while dark clouds slowly gathered across the sky. Between the fading light of evening and the deepening darkness of night, the desert presented a strangely captivating scene.

Richer walked ahead toward the camp entrance, while Ramish followed behind him, placing his feet as though he were stepping into the small footprints Richer left in the sand. Perhaps Ramish wanted them to share the same destination, or perhaps he simply wished for them to follow a single path on which they would never have to be separated from each other.

As they entered through the camp's main entrance, an entirely different world unfolded amid the desert's vast, silent expanse. Tents illuminated by colourful lights stood all around them. Cushions rested on soft carpets, comfortable seating arrangements filled the space, and the gentle murmur of people's conversations gave the atmosphere a charming liveliness. Arabic music could be heard in one corner, while tourists laughed, smiled, and enjoyed their evening in another.

Yet, amid all this liveliness, Richer continued walking in silence, lost in his own thoughts. His eyes were fixed ahead, but his mind was still tangled in the conversation they had shared while watching the sunset.

Suddenly, his foot struck something, and he stumbled, losing his balance.

Ramish immediately stepped forward and caught him.

"Richer, be careful!"

Richer looked at him for a moment. His eyes held several unspoken questions, but his lips remained silent. He steadied himself and began walking again without saying a word to Ramish.

Ramish stood watching him.

Richer's profound silence was slowly breaking him from within. He wanted Richer to say something, to share the confusion in his heart, even if the truth was painful for Ramish to hear. But Richer's constant avoidance of every question had brought him to a point where, despite loving him so deeply, Ramish could no longer see a way to reach the heart of the man he loved.

He took a deep breath, composed himself, and moved forward to take Richer's hand. Then he led him toward a small stall tucked away in one corner of the camp, where the fragrant aroma of Arabic coffee filled the air.

Ramish ordered two cups of Arabic coffee and a plate of dates before taking a seat nearby.

"Come and sit beside me, Richer."

Richer silently sat down next to him.

Ramish pushed the plate of dates toward him.

"Richer, what are you thinking about so deeply?"

Richer's gaze settled on Ramish's face. He watched him for a few moments, as though searching for the answer to a question hidden somewhere inside him—a question he himself could not fully understand.

Then he asked quietly, "Ramish, how do you manage to do all this?"

Ramish looked at him with mild surprise.

"What, Richer?"

Richer glanced toward the sky for a moment before looking back at Ramish.

"How do you hide the pain and hurt inside you, trying to forget them, while making everything easier and more peaceful for me? Don't you ever get tired? You should think about yourself, too. Have you ever thought about how painful it is to keep easing other people's suffering while forgetting the pain inside your own heart?"

Ramish fell silent.

There was something hidden in Richer's words that went beyond indifference—a genuine concern that perhaps even Richer himself was unwilling to fully acknowledge.

Ramish lowered his eyes for a moment. Then he spoke softly.

"It does hurt, Richer. It hurts a lot. But in love, the peace and comfort of the person you love become your own peace and comfort. When you see them happy, you forget your own pain, even if only for a little while."

Richer tried to laugh, though there was a faint hint of indifference in his expression.

"How wise is it to waste your time and peace on someone who cannot return your love with love?"

A faint smile appeared on Ramish's lips.

"Love doesn't always need to be returned in order to exist, Richer.

"Sometimes, simply being with someone, sitting close to them, or even sharing their silence can bring you happiness. If you feel at peace when you're with me, if my presence makes things easier for you instead of becoming a burden, then couldn't that feeling be a part of love, too? Does every emotion have to demand love in return?"

Richer remained silent.

His eyes were fixed on Ramish's face. He could have dismissed those words as nothing more than the thoughts of a man blinded by love. Yet, somewhere deep within his heart, a quiet admission was beginning to rise.

Could simply feeling at peace with someone really be a form of love?

Were these moments spent with Ramish, the comfort he found in his presence, and his quiet attentiveness awakening a feeling within Richer that he was still too afraid to name?

Ramish gestured toward the plate of dates.

"Have some dates and drink your coffee. Maybe you'll feel a little better."

Richer picked up a date and held the cup of coffee in his other hand. For a while, the two sat quietly, enjoying the dates and Arabic coffee.

After taking a sip, Ramish made a slight face.

"This is quite bitter, Richer."

A faint smile appeared on Richer's lips.

"It tastes much better when you drink it with a date."

Ramish took a bite of a date and then sipped his coffee again.

"You're right. It actually tastes much better now."

This time, Richer's smile was a little more noticeable. Ramish smiled back at him.

For a few moments, the weight of the silence between them grew lighter, as though someone had briefly blurred the invisible line that had been drawn between their hearts.

They were just finishing their coffee when Mehmat and Zuraiz appeared in front of them.

Seeing them, Ramish smiled faintly.

"You two made it here?"

Richer also looked toward them and said, "Come and sit with us."

Glancing at the seating area, Mehmat replied with a smile, "Of course, but I want some Arabic coffee and dates, too."

Zuraiz immediately offered, "You sit down. I'll bring some for everyone."

Stopping him, Mehmat said, "No, you sit with Richer. Ramish and I will get everything."

Then he turned toward Ramish.

"Will you come with me?"

"Yes, of course."

Ramish immediately stood up and walked toward the stall with Mehmat.

Behind them, Zuraiz sat down in front of Richer. They exchanged smiles, trying to make the moment feel natural, but soon fell silent.

Their silence was not uncomfortable, yet Richer's gaze kept wandering involuntarily toward the direction in which Ramish and Mehmat had disappeared.

Meanwhile, after walking some distance away from the seating area, Mehmat glanced at Ramish's face.

"Why do you look so sad? Just a little while ago, you two seemed so happy together. Did something happen between you again on the way here?"

The faint smile on Ramish's face disappeared immediately.

He stopped for a moment and looked at Mehmat. But perhaps the sadness in his eyes made it difficult for him to keep his emotions under control.

He wanted to say something, yet the words rose to his lips and stopped there.

Mehmat asked no further questions. He continued walking beside him in silence, as though he understood that sometimes opening the door to someone's heart required more patience than questions.

Ramish took a deep breath and began walking again.

Would he finally be able to share all the confusion in his heart with Mehmat today? Would Mehmat understand his silent suffering and help him find a way for Ramish and Richer to understand each other better?

Or would their journey of love once again come to a standstill at a point where, despite their hearts drawing closer, both persons remained imprisoned by their own fears?
