Chapter 82 - The Miracle of Love

"The Silence That Hurts."

The sun had slowly disappeared beneath the desert horizon. The golden light spread across the sky was beginning to fade, while dark clouds of night gradually enveloped the heavens. Only a short while ago, the desert had been bathed in the glow of the setting sun. Now, the deep shadows of evening were beginning to settle over the endless sands.

But the silence between the two persons was far deeper than the darkness surrounding them.

Countless questions had begun to rise in Ramish's heart, yet Richer's silence seemed to build a new wall in front of every one of them. Ramish wanted to know what was happening inside Richer's heart. Was he afraid of Ramish's love? Was Ramish's marriage an obstacle that Richer could never overcome? Or were the feelings Ramish had hoped to find in Richer's heart simply not there at all?

Instead of answering any of these questions, Richer stood silently, gazing toward the horizon.

Just then, their manager approached them.

"Sir, we should leave now. We need to reach the main Desert Safari camp before it gets completely dark."

Without taking his eyes off the horizon, Richer replied, "All right. You go and get in the car. We'll be there in a moment."

The manager nodded and returned to the vehicle.

A few more moments passed before Richer finally turned and began walking toward the car.

He had taken only a few steps when Ramish suddenly caught his hand.

Richer turned around in surprise.

Ramish stood before him, his eyes filled with questions and his face marked by such helplessness that, for a moment, Richer could not look away.

But the next instant, he averted his gaze.

"Come on, Ramish. Let's go to the car."

Ramish did not respond.

His fingers were still wrapped around Richer's hand, as though he wanted an answer to his questions before he could bear to let him go.

Richer looked at him again.

"Ramish, let go of my hand."

Ramish remained silent.

After a few moments, he finally asked in a quiet, trembling voice,

"Do you love me, Richer?"

A flicker of distress crossed Richer's face. Instead of answering, he repeated the same words.

"Let go of my hand, Ramish."

This time, frustration emerged alongside the helplessness in Ramish's eyes.

"I didn't take your hand just to let it go!"

It was the first time Richer had ever seen such unmistakable anger in Ramish's eyes. He had always known him as someone who smiled, spoke with affection, and listened patiently to every question Richer asked. But the pain in Ramish's voice left Richer speechless for a moment.

Even so, he was still not ready to confront the confusion inside his own heart.

"Please, Ramish… let go of my hand. You're hurting me."

The moment Ramish heard those words, his grip loosened.

"I'm sorry," he whispered, gently releasing Richer's hand.

Then he placed both hands on Richer's arms and looked directly into his eyes.

"Tell me, what is going on inside you? Why won't you talk to me openly? If there's a problem, we can find a solution together. But this silence of yours… it's breaking me from the inside, Richer."

For a moment, Richer's eyes met his.

Perhaps there was so much he wanted to say, but with every word he considered speaking, a new fear seemed to rise in his way.

At last, he lowered his gaze.

"I just want to go back to the car, Ramish."

Seeing the distress spread across Richer's face, Ramish slowly withdrew his hands from his arms.

He stepped back a few paces and silently lifted his gaze toward the sky.

Richer looked at him for a moment.

Before him stood the man who had always tried to understand the fears hidden behind his silence. Yet today, that same man was struggling beneath the weight of his own unanswered questions.

Richer's lips parted, but no words came out.

Finally, he turned away and walked toward the car without saying anything.

Ramish remained where he was.

The darkness in the sky was deepening, but the uncertainty weighing on his heart felt heavier than the night itself.

A little while later, the manager glanced at Richer, who was already sitting inside the car.

"Sir, does Ramish want to stay there a little longer? We need to reach the main camp so we can spend some time there as well."

Richer looked out of the window at Ramish, who was still standing alone, gazing up at the sky.

Softly, he replied, "Could you please go and call him?"

The manager stepped out of the car and approached Ramish.

"Sir, everyone is waiting for you. Come on, let's go so we can reach the main camp."

Ramish slowly turned toward him.

"Sometimes, waiting for too long becomes very painful, doesn't it?"

The manager looked at him in surprise.

"Sir, I don't quite understand what you mean."

A faint, colourless smile appeared on Ramish's lips.

"It's nothing. Come on, let's go."

The two person began walking toward the vehicle.

On the way, Ramish asked the manager, "Could I sit in your seat at the front? You can sit in the back."

The manager replied with a slight smile, "Sir, you've tried that before. Do you really think Mr Richer will let you sit in the front?"

Ramish looked at him for a moment before answering quietly, "All right."

He silently climbed into the back seat, where Richer was already sitting.

The vehicle pulled away.

A profound silence settled between them.

Ramish glanced at Richer. He was looking out of the window, as though searching in the darkness of the desert for an answer he could not find within himself.

Ramish parted his lips as if to say something, but then quietly turned his face away.

He, too, began looking out of the window.

A few moments later, Richer stole a glance at him.

Ramish's expression was serious. His eyes no longer held that familiar sparkle that had always drawn Richer toward him.

Richer quickly looked away.

Perhaps, for the first time, he was beginning to realise that his silence was hurting Ramish just as much as it was hurting him.

But could he put an end to that pain by finally speaking the truth in his heart?

The vehicle once again sped across the towering sand dunes.

As it plunged down a steep slope with a sudden jolt, Richer instinctively grabbed the safety bar and held on tightly.

Ramish noticed.

His heart was still aching, but seeing Richer's fear, he quietly moved closer to him. He gripped the safety bar with one hand and the seat with the other, ready to steady Richer if another sudden jolt threatened to throw him off balance.

He said nothing.

He made no declaration of love and demanded no answers to his questions.

He simply remained beside Richer in silence.

Richer looked at him for a brief moment.

Even in his silence, Ramish offered the same protection, the same care, the same sense of belonging…

Feelings Richer kept experiencing again and again, yet still feared accepting.

A short while later, the vehicle reached the main Desert Safari camp.

The driver stopped in front of the main entrance. Everyone climbed out while the driver moved ahead to park the vehicle. Several other cars were already there, and in the fading evening light, this part of the desert seemed alive with the movement of arriving visitors.

Ramish and Richer began walking silently toward the main entrance.

Their steps carried them in the same direction, yet a distance had grown between their hearts that no number of physical steps could bridge.

The same question continued to echo in Ramish's mind.

Would Richer turn away from his love, or would he one day take a few steps beyond his fears and reach for Ramish's hand?

Richer, too, was restless with questions of his own.

Would it be right to accept Ramish's love? Could he give Ramish the kind of love he was hoping for? And if Richer listened to his heart, would he be able to face the consequences?

The desert night was settling around them.

And in the silence between their hearts, there was more than a collection of unanswered questions…

There was also a decision hidden within it—a decision that might one day change the course of both their lives.
