"Are you telling me I'm not the father?" he asked, turning his head toward Noah. "Maybe it's someone else's?"
A disappointed gape formed on her lips.
She couldn't believe he had questioned her loyalty and devotion all this time. Her hands tightened into fists at her sides as her eyes pierced deeply into his, trying to make sense of the tangled emotions swirling within.
Sensing her hesitation in the silence, Noah cut in swiftly. "I'm the father of the baby. You have no right to interfere—so back off." His words were sharp, deliberate—each one aimed to chase Zane away for the meantime.
But it only draws out that buried emotion Zane kept locked beneath his rags.
The air tightened like a suffocating fog.
Zane's fury flared, silent yet scorching, until it finally broke loose. Without warning, he seized Noah by the collar, yanking him close as Selina gasped, stunned by the sudden violence.
