Selina slumped onto the bed, her exhausted gaze fixed on the ceiling as her scattered thoughts began to blur. A heavy despair settled over her, and a bone-deep tiredness pulled her toward the edge of sleep.
Selina dozed off and had just begun to drift into a deep daze when the doorbell rang. Sharp. Insistent.
Ding! Ding!
The sound pierced through the fog of her sleep, urgent and impossible to ignore.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Selina squeezed her eyes shut, frustration coiling in her chest. A curse nearly escaped her lips at whoever had dared to interrupt her brief peace. Wearily, she turned her gaze toward the bedroom door, as if she could see through the wood and pinpoint the intruder.
She tried to ignore it, but the desperate persistence of the ringing refused to let her be. With a groan, she forced herself upright and stumbled out of her room towards the front door.
"Ugh…" She winced as a sharp headache sliced through her. "My head... when did I even doze off?"
