Chapter 59 - A compass abandoned

Roland was simply glancing into the dark veiled hallway, where no light was seen. Despite the background noise of the obnoxious bickering behind him, which to be precise was Maverick mourning over Loretta's death. He appeared to be staring at someone in the darkness specifically.

"I can tell you are there, y'know this isn't very surprising of you."

"I can never surprise you huh? Always with your 'I know you more than yourself'"

Another figure walked into the light, another person in a labcoat, and the auburn hair finally showing in the light. It was Yurina, that same person he had been eternally tormenting.

"I haven't actually seen you, ever since Satoya arrived here, or well, every encounter was you ruthlessly murdering me in cold blood." Roland shrugged with a mocking smile.

Yurina then replied aggressively, "Ruthless murder? Cold blood? Oh please."

Roland let out a maniacal laughter, paying no heed to the man behind him sobbing while embracing the dead woman's corpse.

"L-loretta…" He sobbed.

Roland let out a sigh, "did you really have to shoot his lover? C'mon you know? They were a match made in heaven, yet you had to shoot his girlfriend, his future wife, a relationship that reminded much of you and your boy–" Yurina immediately pointed the firearm she was hiding in her lab coat pocket at Roland's head.

"Mention him one more time."

"With what? What kind of insane person would murder an innocent man who happens to love the activity of researching?"

Yurina gripped the firearm's grip, even gripping it with such force that her hand was shaking. But, she let go of her hand's strength, putting the firearm back into her pocket. She then turned around to retreat back into the darkness, with her steps being slow and inconsistent due to her still having the urge to murder him on the spot.

As she entered the lightless part of the hall, Roland spoke again to her.

"Wait, allow me to show you something, it will be worthwhile."

Yurina turned, side eyeing Roland with a hostile glare. Roland then raised his hands as a gesture to surrender.

"What else is there to show? I know everything about this place, anything you wanted to show me was shown to me throughout my pathetic time here." She then noticed Roland conceiving a devious grin.

"Well, I have never shown you this. Don't you think it'll be better to gain Satoya's trust by telling him everything–100% of this entire laboratory?" Roland reasoned, although the way he spoke was quite manipulative and laced in poison, Yurina couldn't help but comply because she indeed required the trust of Satoya Murayama.

"I can tell you complied to be the audience to whatever I am about to show you."

Yurina scoffed, "Well, regardless of anything, I cannot kill you, no matter how much I tried."

Roland smiled happily, walking around Maverick who was still paying no attention to anything happening around him because the only thing he acknowledged to be the only thing he ever cared about was Loretta, who was now a corpse who cannot gain the love of the man she was mutually in love with.

Yurina then slowly followed Roland, taking a glance at the mourning man. She twitched momentarily, remembering a memory that she can never forget, but she no longer felt any guilt from the fact that she was the one responsible for that man's lover's death.

Roland and Yurina walked for around 4 minutes, stumbling through the hallways that were either dimly lit or brightly lit to the point where staying in the hallway for too long made Yurina's eyes sting. The sounds of the wailing man began to die down, likely from how far they have been walking.

"You are well aware of the many steel doors that cannot be opened, even if you were to throw corrosive liquids, even ones used to heavily injure the Wrehtched when Cylee accidentally let it escape."

Yurina let out a disdainful sigh, "yes, I remember, that was also how Cylee died."

"Well, would you like to know why no one, even the most powerful organizations of the world, never bothered to search this place?"

Yurina seemed to be interested in the answer, and asked him, however before she even asked, Roland interrupted her.

"Well, there's a specific someone of quite the authority from the single most prominent organization that is also from memory, amidst the considerable tension with the organization Satoya is affiliated with, you know.. Regulator's Committee."

"Compass Treaty?" Yurina asked, as Roland stopped and then turned to look at the steel door that was poised in the middle of a hallway without rooms. He then touched the door, and the steel door slowly opened, making a loud grating noise.

"Well, indeed, a certain authority over a division, although the Compass Treaty was only established during the 3rd Revitalisation period after the events of the 6th Disaster 7730 years ago, that certain someone, is, one of the more influential ones."

The steel door fully opened, revealing a long staircase leading into a basement of the laboratory.

"I kept him here, because of a single loophole that The Compass Treaty can never bypass."

They then both walked down the long staircase, spending around 30 seconds to get to the bottom.

The basement doors lacked any sort of protection or security, likely because there was no point.

The basement itself was considerably large, as if it was one large containment facility. Numerous skeletons were scattered throughout the basement, with all of them wearing a sort of armor and uniform, with Yurina inspecting it closer, one of the skeletons armor was labelled with.

Year: 8203

North Branch: Lieutenant

Then, Roland spoke to Yurina, walking barely ahead of her, looking up with a prideful smile.

"Look at it."

Yurina looked at what Roland was staring at. And it was quite the scene.

A man with black hair who wore a gold fabric cape along with armor that endlessly leaked blood was staked up against the wall. However the odd part was the amount of medical supplies were chaining the man. Was Roland preserving him?

Then Roland revealed.

"That is the 98th East of The Compass Rose, one of the first hundred Easts in history."
