Kaya stood there in her bathrobe, the steam from her warm coffee mug curling into the cold air. She looked at the bloodshot scientist. Then she looked at the giant snake.
She took another slow, deliberate sip of her coffee.
"Oh," Kaya said flatly, her voice echoing in the quiet room.
Neither of them moved.
Elias's chest barely rose and fell as he breathed, fogging up a tiny circle of the bulletproof glass right in front of his lips. Inside the tube, the massive, lethal predator looked genuinely uncomfortable. He shifted his heavy coils a fraction of an inch to the left, and Elias's bloodshot, manic eyes instantly tracked the movement with terrifying precision.
Kaya sighed, scratching the back of her messy bedhead with her free hand. She padded barefoot across the cold metal floor until she was standing right behind the wheeled office chair.
She didn't bother speaking politely. She simply lifted her bare foot and kicked the back of Elias's chair.
