At the break of dawn, Luka rose to his feet. Cielo had slept soundly, so much so that he hated to wake him, but they needed to return.
He didn't wake the sleeping Bianci right away, though, stepping out of the quiet tent. The horses were snorting, stomping, and swishing their tails in the early hours of the morning, completely unshaken in the face of death.
The night before, Luka had been completely focused on finding Cielo, so much so that he had left bloody bodies littered on the black sand. And after finding the Vampire mostly unharmed, he hadn't wanted to leave for even a moment.
In a short time, he tossed the bodies outside into the tents around, preparing a horse for their return. Even as he greedily readied only a single horse, he told himself that Cielo might not be able to handle riding by himself in such treacherous terrain. He returned to his tent when he was done, Cielo rousing as he did.
