Half an hour passed, and when no further disturbances occurred, Zhang Lexuan finally relaxed. She let out a sigh of relief and sat on the bed.
"Senior Sister, what happened? Are you hurt?" Su Xing asked with concern.
Zhang Lexuan's expression was somewhat low, and she spoke slowly:"You know, I am the skipped-generation heir of the Sea God Pavilion, while the current heir is Elder Xuan.
Elder Mu considered me too young, with insufficient cultivation to command respect.
But over the past year, I gained many opportunities outside. Now, I'm close to reaching level 95, so Elder Mu intended for me to take over as head of the Sea God Pavilion.
However, more than half of the elder council still supports Elder Xuan.
Just now, I encountered an attack from these elders."
Su Xing's expression grew serious. The attackers were likely from Elder Xuan's faction. Elder Xuan himself was a 98th-level Super Soul Master, second only to Elder Mu—this was serious trouble.
Su Xing didn't yet have a full grasp of his own power; otherwise, he wouldn't be so tense.
From what Zhang Lexuan had taught him, the Sea God Pavilion was the strongest force on the continent, and Elder Xuan, as its second-in-command, was extraordinarily powerful.
"So, Senior Sister, what do you plan to do next?" Su Xing asked.
Zhang Lexuan was silent for a moment, then sighed with a hint of despair."Most of the elders support Elder Xuan. I cannot win, and honestly… I don't want to fight anymore."
Her expression grew slightly melancholic."The Sea God Pavilion won't gain or lose anything with or without me. Even without me, it's still the strongest force on the continent."
"Senior Sister… are you saying you don't plan to seek revenge?"
Su Xing caught the hidden meaning in her words.
Zhang Lexuan shook her head gently."The academy took me in and raised me. I cannot repay their kindness with enmity.I don't want to compete anymore… I'm exhausted. I just want to find a place to live in seclusion."
She paused, then turned to Su Xing."Would you come with me?"
Su Xing smiled, though his unhealed injuries made his face pale and unhealthy. The smile looked awkward."You saved my life, Senior Sister. I have nowhere else to go. As long as you don't mind me slowing you down, I'll go wherever you go."
Hearing this, Zhang Lexuan's face lit up with a genuine smile.
…
Time passed, and nearly a year went by.
At Shrek Academy's inner school, on Sea God Island, a disheveled old man with messy hair and tattered clothes entered the Sea God Pavilion.
He approached a reclining chair, upon which lay an elderly man on the brink of frailty. Compared to a year ago, Mu En looked even older.
"Xuanzi, any news of Lexuan yet?"
Mu En asked in a low, almost inaudible voice.
Xuanzi shook his head slightly. It had been eight months since Zhang Lexuan left the academy, yet no trace had been found. Shrek Academy's scouts had discovered nothing.
It was as if she had vanished from the mortal realm entirely.
"Elder Mu, we received information from people we placed in the Celestial Court," Xuanzi reported.
"Oh? What did they say?"
"According to our sources, that young man hasn't appeared for nearly a year. Rumors suggest something may have happened to him.We bribed a vice hall master, who said that after their duel with me, no one has seen him again."
"Oh… you think the young man met with misfortune?" Mu En asked calmly.
Xuanzi nodded."It's very likely. The internal struggle in the Celestial Court has intensified. The faction led by Ning Zhiyuan of the Nine Treasures Glazed Sect is clashing with the young man's loyal followers. If he were still around, he wouldn't be able to stay idle."
"Oh? The Nine Treasures Glazed Sect, huh? Interesting."
Mu En's cloudy eyes gleamed with a sharp light.
"Elder Mu, despite the internal chaos, the Celestial Court continues to develop rapidly. Shall we take advantage…"
Xuanzi stopped, making a throat-cutting gesture.
Mu En squinted. At this growth rate, within five years, the so-called strongest force in everyone's minds would no longer rival Shrek Academy.
Mu En had devoted his life to Shrek Academy. That could not be allowed.
After a moment of thought, Mu En decided to act cautiously:"No rush. Inform the other powers of this news—they have long desired the Celestial Court's secrets. But avoid spreading it too widely; we don't want to alert anyone prematurely. Also, have our people attempt to make contact with Ning Zhiyuan."
"Understood."
Xuanzi's face lit up. Finally, action against the Celestial Court was coming.
Xuanzi had long resented Ho Yuhao. In their last battle, that brat even called upon the deadly Poison Elder and Snow Emperor, risking Xuanzi's life.
Fortunately, Mu En had foresight and left a clone in place. Otherwise, that young troublemaker might have succeeded.
Worse still, that brat used the opportunity to rise in rank, gaining fame worldwide—a grave humiliation.
"Elder Mu… what are you planning?"
Xuanzi was taken aback when he saw Mu En rise from the reclining chair.
"I'm going to see two old friends," Mu En said simply, then vanished from the Sea God Pavilion.
In the Southwestern part of the Celestial Soul Empire, in a remote village, a man in coarse clothes carrying a hoe opened the door and stepped into the yard.
"Welcome back. Sit for a moment; the meal will be ready soon."
From the kitchen, a woman in a square scarf and linen apron called out.
These two were Su Xing and Zhang Lexuan. After deciding to live in seclusion, Zhang Lexuan had brought them here.
The village was called Wanghun Village, named a century ago after a soul king who had come from here.
The two found the name amusing—not just ungrounded, but downright grim.
Although named Wanghun Village, no soul masters had emerged there for nearly twenty years. The village's only girl with potential for becoming a soul master had soul power at level nine and was twelve years old. She had been unlucky, awakening with only level one soul power.
Still, she was fortunate that no one had come in recent years to awaken other children.
Thus, Zhang Lexuan stayed here. Outwardly, she appeared as a first-rank Soul Master and freely helped the village children awaken their martial souls. The villagers welcomed her.
Settling in Wanghun Village, the two lived like ordinary villagers, rising with the sun and resting at sunset.
