Edeline's expression changed immediately.
"Alice, what do you mean? I never did such a thing."
Alice only gave her a faint smile, but there was no warmth in it.
"Do you truly think that I did not realize you were trying to sow discord between me and my daughter-in-law so that you could get your daughter released? I knew what you were doing a long time ago, but I deliberately played along. I wanted to see what you were capable of and how far you were willing to go."
Alice's eyes became colder as she continued.
"But the moment you started insulting my daughter-in-law, whatever expectations I still had of you disappeared. Edeline, if you had come to me sincerely, admitted your mistake, and your daughter had also admitted hers, I would certainly have asked them to be released. However, now I genuinely believe that locking both of those stupid idiots away was the right decision."
