Chapter 167 - #167

The deafening boom of colliding forces shook the very foundations of the golden realm. The Dark Elf warships that had breached Asgard's airspace immediately began laying waste to the city, firing indiscriminate barrages into the sprawling architecture.

Asgard's defense forces, however, were not entirely caught off guard. Heavy energy cannons mounted along the city walls roared to life, their concentrated blasts tearing through the sky and instantly swatting two of the invading vessels out of the air.

Almost simultaneously, Asgard's own aerial fleet launched into the fray. Their vessels were elegant, golden skiffs that looked like literal flying boats, a profound reminder that while Asgard possessed incredible technology, its foundation was built upon profound, ancient magic.

Across the perimeter of the Imperial City, the armored watchtowers activated. Under the frantic commands of the palace guards, the mechanical roofs of the towers split open, revealing massive, sharply pointed golden crystals housed within. As the guards manipulated their control spheres, the smaller crystals encircling the primary spire ignited, violently accumulating terrifying levels of magical energy.

With a blinding flash, the central crystal discharged a continuous, torrential beam of golden energy directly into the hull of an incoming Dark Elf blade-ship. Dozens of these magical obelisks fired in unison, weaving a deadly net of anti-air artillery that finally managed to suppress the overwhelming firepower of the Dark Elf vanguard, forcing the invasion into a brutal stalemate.

"Activate the shield!" Heimdall roared. He rushed to the central console of the Bifrost observatory and violently plunged Hofund, the great Guardian Sword, directly into the control mechanism.

Intricate golden runes blazed to life along the floor and walls of the chamber. Miles away, a sprawling, geometric dome of shimmering golden energy cascaded outward, enveloping the entirety of the royal palace in an impenetrable barrier. His primary duty fulfilled, Heimdall ripped his sword from the console and charged back into the city, throwing himself into the bloody melee alongside the Einherjar to repel the Dark Elf infantry pouring from the crashed ships.

In pure numbers, the Asgardian military vastly outmatched the invading Dark Elves. As soon as the fighting spilled into the streets, the golden-armored warriors easily suppressed the pale-skinned invaders.

But the tide abruptly turned. A contingent of Dark Elves suddenly drew jagged, obsidian daggers radiating a foul, dark magic. Chanting in their ancient tongue, they plunged the cursed blades directly into their own hearts. Agonized roars echoed across the plaza as their bodies began to violently mutate. Their muscle mass exploded, veins bulging thickly beneath rapidly darkening skin. They swelled into hulking, ten-meter-tall abominations, their forms twisted and weaponized by the horrific power of the Kurse stone.

Despite their grotesque, misshapen appearances, these Kursed warriors possessed apocalyptic strength. Every step they took cracked the reinforced stone beneath their feet like an earthquake. The Asgardian warriors, whose natural strength far exceeded that of any mortal, were casually swatted aside and crushed by a single blow. The Kursed monsters charged the defensive lines, shattering the heavily runed energy obelisks with their bare hands.

"Die!" Heimdall bellowed, leaping high into the air. Gripping his greatsword with both hands, he brought the divine blade crashing down, cleaved a Kursed giant squarely in half with all his might.

Before he could recover his stance, two searing beams of dark energy struck Heimdall from above, blasting him backward across the courtyard. He gritted his teeth, glaring up at the Dark Elf warship strafing their position. Heimdall was a devastating force in close-quarters combat—even Thor struggled to best him in pure martial skill—but unlike the Prince of Asgard, he possessed no means of unassisted flight.

Refusing to be pinned down, Heimdall let out a guttural roar, planted his feet, and hurled Hofund directly at the rapidly approaching warship. Fueled by his immense physical power, the golden broadsword cut through the air like a streak of lightning, tearing straight through the reinforced hull of the alien vessel and causing it to violently combust. The sword plummeted back down, burying itself in the stone plaza without a single scratch on its divine metal.

"Is your sword always that durable?" Ethan Hunt asked, his eyes tracking the flawless weapon as he calmly strolled into the chaotic plaza.

"It is Hofund," Heimdall replied proudly, wiping a smear of dark blood from his golden armor. "A divinely forged relic of Asgard."

"Good to know," Ethan said, a dry smirk touching his lips. "Mind if I borrow it?"

Before Heimdall could answer, Ethan reached out, his mind locking onto the physical vectors of the golden blade. The heavy sword vibrated violently in the stone. With a sharp, melodic ring, Hofund ripped itself free, transforming into a blur of golden light that instantaneously pierced through the engine block of a diving Dark Elf fighter.

Ethan didn't stop there. Manipulating the sword's kinetic momentum, he forcefully redirected its velocity the millisecond it exited the first ship. The golden blade ricocheted at an impossibly sharp angle, tearing through a second ship, then a third, moving with a fluid, terrifying precision that defied all natural laws of physics.

When the blood-soaked sword finally snapped back to Ethan, the three Dark Elf vessels hovering above him shuddered violently before blossoming into spectacular fireballs.

Not bad, Ethan thought, immensely satisfied with the weapon's structural integrity. Electromagnetic railguns were limited by the physical durability of their projectiles, which usually disintegrated under the extreme forces of a high-speed launch. But with a practically indestructible conduit, his Vector Control was infinitely more efficient.

Applying an upward vector to his own center of gravity, Ethan levitated smoothly into the chaotic airspace, stepping lightly onto the flat of the hovering broadsword. As he flew, he seized the vectors of the surrounding shrapnel and ambient energy, turning the immediate airspace into a localized kill zone. Any Dark Elf ship that crossed within a thousand meters of Ethan was instantly shredded, the golden sword tearing through their hulls like a shark smelling blood in the water.

Watching from the ground, Heimdall stared at the sky in a complex mix of awe and deep, psychological horror. Every time a Dark Elf ship rained down in burning pieces, Heimdall felt a strange twist of humiliation. Ethan had single-handedly reclaimed Asgard's air superiority exactly as he promised, yet Heimdall couldn't shake the disturbing feeling that he had been using his own sacred weapon incorrectly for his entire life.

High above the chaos, on a secure balcony of the Imperial City, Odin and Luna watched the battlefield unfold.

"Your knight is exceedingly capable," Odin noted, observing Ethan's brutal efficiency. "He is an unparalleled fighter."

"Naturally," Luna replied, lifting her chin with a smug grin. "I trained him."

"I imagine there is no one on Earth more adept at cultivating enhanced individuals than you," Odin chuckled.

"Don't think a few empty compliments are going to get you a free mercenary," Luna shot back, immediately seeing through the All-Father's flattery. "You get what you pay for. When Asgard fought the Frost Giants, you paid us handsomely for our assistance. The rules haven't changed."

"And what exactly is your price?" Odin asked, his remaining eye narrowing slightly. He wasn't entirely opposed to the transaction; as the ruler of the Nine Realms, his vaults held the greatest treasures in the universe. A fair exchange of services was entirely acceptable.

"I want the Heart of Ymir," Luna demanded, her gaze locked firmly on the King. "It's sitting in your vault. If memory serves, you took it as a trophy when you defeated Laufey."

"Selene, a primordial artifact condensed from the life essence of a founding father is not something handed over lightly," Odin warned.

"Oh, please. You old relics just slapped that 'founding father' title on yourselves to sound important," Luna scoffed dismissively. "Besides, I never said I wouldn't offer more chips on the table."

Down below, the colossal Dark Elf mothership suddenly shifted its orientation. The monolithic, sword-like vessel tilted downward, aiming its heavily armored prow directly at the shimmering golden shield protecting the palace. Slowly, the very tip of the ship peeled back like a mechanical lotus, revealing a gargantuan central cannon that began drawing in terrifying amounts of ambient energy.

"Are you truly not going to step in?" Luna asked, eyeing the charging weapon. "The Dark Elves possess the most advanced technology in the Nine Realms. If they hadn't tried to drown the universe in the Aether, Asgard wouldn't have stood a chance against them."

"You worry too much," Odin waved a hand dismissively, projecting absolute confidence. "Civilizations progress. Their technology was formidable, but it is an echo of the past. I erected this shield at the height of my power. It will not fall easily."

The moment the words left his mouth, the Dark Elf cannon fired.

A catastrophic torrent of dark energy erupted from the mothership, slamming into the golden barrier with the force of a dying star. The blinding, apocalyptic light washed over every corner of Asgard, vaporizing everything in the immediate blast radius and sending a concussive shockwave rippling across the battlefield.

Odin remained perfectly still, watching the impact with analytical calmness. But then, the pupil of his lone eye shrank to a pinprick. A massive, jagged fracture spider-webbed across the surface of the golden shield.

"Impossible!" Odin gasped, genuine shock breaking his stoic facade.

With a deafening shatter, the impenetrable barrier collapsed entirely. The torrential wave of dark energy washed over the balcony, instantly burying Odin and Luna beneath a mountain of pulverized stone.

Damn it! Ethan cursed, spotting the collapse from the sky. He immediately manipulated his kinetic vectors, diving like a missile toward the ruined balcony. He landed with a heavy thud, his vector field instantly blasting the heavy debris outward to clear the area.

From beneath a slab of ruined marble, a soot-covered, ragged young girl crawled out. Luna coughed, her dark eyes flashing with divine irritation. With a flicker of magical energy, she seamlessly repaired her torn clothing and glared at the opposite side of the rubble.

"This is your idea of an impenetrable defense?" Luna snapped. "Has your age finally rotted your brain?"

"Something is wrong," Odin growled, climbing out of the wreckage with a deeply thunderous expression. "A blast of that magnitude could never breach my enchantments from the outside. The shield fell because the control center was compromised. We were infiltrated before the assault even began."

"Well, congratulations," Luna said, brushing dust from her shoulders with a mocking smirk. "It looks like you're joining the war whether you want to or not."

"If that's true, then we have a much bigger problem," Ethan interrupted, his eyes tracking the flight paths of the Dark Elf fighters overhead. "They know you're here, All-Father, but none of these ships are targeting your position. They're bypassing the defensive lines and heading straight for the royal quarters."

Ethan turned to look directly at Odin. "They aren't here for you. They're here for the Aether."

"Frigga!" Odin's face drained of color, sheer panic replacing his godly composure. Without another word, he surged forward, moving with a desperate, terrifying speed toward the inner sanctum.

Ethan didn't waste a second. He scooped Luna up into a princess carry, manipulated the air currents around them, and blasted after the All-Father, using his vector propulsion to break the sound barrier.

Despite their incredible speed, they arrived a fraction of a second too late. As Odin burst through the heavy golden doors, he watched in paralyzed horror as the towering Kursed warrior drove a massive blade straight through Queen Frigga's chest.

"NO!" Odin roared, the sound tearing from his throat like a wounded beast.

In that microscopic instant, the All-Father lost his mind. The terrifying, primordial divine power he had been hoarding for his Odinsleep erupted from his body like a dying sun. The sheer kinetic and magical force of his unchained fury slammed into the Kursed warrior and Malekith's avatar, instantly atomizing their physical bodies into a fine, bloody mist.

But Odin's wrath didn't stop there. The wave of golden, destructive energy expanded outward at the speed of light, blanketing the entirety of Asgard. Guided by his godlike will, the wave harmlessly phased through every Asgardian, but violently tore every Dark Elf soldier and hovering warship into microscopic shrapnel.

This was the true, apocalyptic power of the Lord of the Nine Realms.

Within the bloody mist of Malekith's destroyed avatar, a spark of dark magic flashed and vanished. Odin's remaining eye, blazing with absolute, unyielding rage, tracked the magical signature directly back to the dark, hovering mothership. He knew the real Malekith had just awakened on the bridge.

"Gungnir!" Odin commanded.

A blinding pillar of golden light materialized in his grasp, solidifying into a massive, two-meter-long spear etched with violently glowing cosmic runes. It radiated an aura of absolute death. This was the weapon of causality, the Lance of Destiny. Once thrown, it was a universal absolute—it would hunt its target across the cosmos until their soul was utterly annihilated.

Odin drew his arm back, pouring the absolute entirety of his remaining divine life force into the weapon, locking onto Malekith's exact coordinates. If he threw it now, the All-Father would likely die from the exertion, but the Dark Elf King would be erased from existence.

Just as his muscles tensed for the throw, a weak, trembling hand desperately gripped his ankle.

It was Frigga, bleeding out on the polished floor.

Odin froze. The raging tempest of his divine power violently warred with his grief. Slowly, agonizingly, reason prevailed. He exhaled a shaky breath, dispelling the apocalyptic energy radiating from Gungnir, allowing the Dark Elf mothership to tear open a spatial jump and flee the realm.

"Let me look at her," Luna said softly, stepping past Ethan. "I am far better equipped to stabilize a Dark Elf blood curse than you are."

As Luna knelt beside the Queen, heavy footsteps echoed in the corridor. Heimdall strode into the ruined sanctum, taking in the devastation with a grim expression.

"My King," Heimdall said, bowing his head. "The Dark Elf fleet has retreated, but they will inevitably return. What are your orders?"

Odin slowly rose to his feet. He gripped Gungnir tightly, the golden power of the All-Father blazing fiercely in his solitary eye. For a brief, terrifying moment, he looked exactly as he had millennia ago—the undisputed, ruthless conqueror of the Nine Realms.

"Rally the armies," Odin commanded, his voice a cold, thunderous vow of absolute wrath. "And then, we slaughter them all."
