Chapter 236 - Chapter 236: Fish-Man Island

Fish-Man Island is located in the deep sea, ten thousand meters directly below Mary Geoise. It is a necessary stop for pirates heading to the New World and the birthplace of most fish-men and merfolk. The population of Fish-Man Island is about five million, indicating that the island is quite large.

At this depth of ten thousand meters, the roots of the Sabaody Archipelago's mangroves extend all the way down to this area. The inhabitants of Fish-Man Island do not live in the water like fish. Instead, similar to humans on land, they spend most of their time in a normal air environment. A super-massive membrane envelops the entire island, separating the water from the air. Due to the inherent properties of the mangrove resin, once a complete bubble is formed, its outer wall becomes exceptionally tough. Such a massive wall could withstand continuous cannon fire for a short period without being breached. Therefore, Fish-Man Island, located ten thousand meters deep in the sea, is in some ways very safe.

Bellamy had hired the best coating artisan overnight to coat the Redwood Treasure Ship, and they had made their way down to a depth of ten thousand meters. Reaching Fish-Man Island was much easier than expected. They had anticipated some trouble along the way, but the journey was surprisingly smooth, and they easily descended to the required depth. All the difficulties of deep-sea diving were rendered moot by the miraculous mangrove resin.

Having reached a depth of ten thousand meters, they entered the domain ruled by marine life. Here, the Sea Kings were the true overlords. Naturally, a large number of Sea Kings lived near Fish-Man Island, but they seemed completely uninterested in the passing ships. Even when they saw Bellamy's ship pass by, not a single Sea King attacked them. This phenomenon was unusual. Bellamy guessed that the fish-men and merfolk might have some kind of agreement with the nearby Sea Kings, such as not attacking passing ships. Sea Kings were intelligent creatures, not mere beasts.

And so, the Bellamy Pirates easily arrived at the underwater port of Fish-Man Island, just outside the giant membrane. There was a special entry and exit channel here where ships could dock.

The Redwood Treasure Ship was the exclusive vessel of the Celestial Dragons. It was not just a ship; it represented their noble status. Bellamy naturally disliked this and had long planned to completely overhaul it. But that would have to wait until he reached the New World and had enough free time. For now, he had to pass through Fish-Man Island before he could think about anything else.

When the Redwood Treasure Ship appeared at the underwater port, the officials there were stunned.

"My god! Why is the Celestial Dragons' treasure ship here?!"

How could the residents of this place not recognize the Celestial Dragons' vessel? The moment the ship appeared, it caused a huge commotion in the underwater port area.

The Bellamy Pirates didn't actually need to enter Fish-Man Island; they could just pass by and head directly into the New World. The Redwood Treasure Ship was one of the best warships in the world, so it naturally had facilities like a cold storage. The supplies on board were more than enough to get them to the next island.

But there were a few things on this island that Bellamy coveted. Since he was already here, how could he miss out?

There was an interesting question in this world: can fish-men eat Devil Fruits? And if they do, can they still survive underwater? The answer is yes. Fish-men can not only eat Devil Fruits, but they can also survive underwater after eating them. A fish-man's ability to hold their breath far exceeds that of any land-dwelling race. Even if a fish-man who has eaten a Devil Fruit falls into the sea, they can continue to survive for a long time. And even if a fish-man loses all their strength, they can summon their fellow fish to help them escape from the water. This was a racial talent that couldn't be envied.

The most classic example of a powerful fish-man who has eaten a Devil Fruit is Jack the Drought. Jack is a giant grouper fish-man. Even after being knocked into the sea, he could maintain a certain level of consciousness and breathe normally after sinking to the bottom.

There was another interesting character, Vander Decken IX, user of the Mark-Mark Fruit. This guy was Bellamy's main target on this trip. Not to mention the forbidden Energy Steroids on Fish-Man Island. This Vander Decken fellow had somehow managed to coat his skin with a special paint. With this coating, he could move freely at the bottom of the sea. What Bellamy coveted was the formula for this paint.

His pirate crew had too many Devil Fruit users. If they encountered a disaster at sea, the risk of being wiped out was too great. This paint was of immense value to him.

Furthermore, this Vander Decken IX was a very interesting character himself. Here's a joke: the grand princess of Fish-Man Island was being threatened daily with an axe by a small-time thug. And the king of Fish-Man Island, the great knight Neptune, could do nothing about it, only watch as his daughter was bullied. It was absolutely laughable. No wonder the fish-men and merfolk were in such a difficult situation. With a useless king like that, it would be a miracle if they weren't bullied to death.

The moment he set foot on the island, Bellamy immediately activated his Observation Haki, covering most of Fish-Man Island. There was a place on this island called the Fish-Man District, similar to a human slum, where a large number of fish-man lowlifes lived. Through his Observation Haki, he could easily find this place filled with negative emotions. Once he found the Fish-Man District, he could quickly find Vander Decken IX.

The instant Bellamy's Observation Haki spread out, a special figure on Fish-Man Island, the fortune-teller Madam Shyarly, suddenly woke from her sleep.

"Ah!"

She let out a sharp scream, as if she had seen a terrifying vision.

"No! You can't!"

With a cry of absolute terror, Shyarly fainted from shock. Who knows what she had just seen. This fortune-teller was possibly the most accurate mystic in the world. From birth, Shyarly possessed a mysterious power of prophecy. It was an extremely special talent that could not be learned. Shyarly's eyes could see scenes from the future, and these visions would almost certainly come to pass one day.

From birth until now, her predictions had a one hundred percent success rate, without a single deviation. Long, long ago, she had foreseen the birth of the Great Pirate Era and the fall of Whitebeard. But seeing was one thing; she had no power to change these terrible prophecies. For this reason, Shyarly detested her own ability. Just like this time, she had clearly seen another terrifying vision, so much so that she had been scared unconscious.
