Thomas Fisher's reasoning was tactful, but his attitude in refusing was firm. Charlotte Shaw and Isla Lane felt that keenly, yet the mother and daughter had no intention of giving up.
"Thomas is right. Alice Turner can't take care of Benjamin Shaw on her own, and besides, she's a girl—it's not convenient for her to do everything herself. With Thomas here, he can help her." Before the two women could start in again, Alexander Shaw simply pushed them both out of the ward, and the moment they were out, he shut the door.
"Why are you pushing us?"
Being shoved out the door by Alexander, Isla and Charlotte were very displeased. But Charlotte, as the younger generation, only dared to be angry without saying anything; Isla, as his wife, had far fewer scruples.
Isla had barely finished speaking when Alexander glared at her. "Will you just calm down for once? Benjamin is seriously injured—can you, as his mother, put his health first for a change?"
