Chapter 2 - chapter 2 - The Years of Awakening

Chapter 2 — The Years of Awakening

The first years of Rudra Odinson's life passed peacefully.

For Asgard, that meant something different than it did for most realms.

Even during peaceful times, warriors trained in the courtyards, weapons were forged in distant halls, ships travelled between realms, and the Bifrost carried travelers between worlds.

But inside the royal palace, Rudra's world was much simpler.

His mother's arms.

His father's voice.

Thor's laughter.

Loki's books.

And an endless number of things he wanted to understand.

At first, Rudra could do little more than watch.

He watched the light coming through the palace windows.

He watched servants moving through the halls.

He watched birds in the gardens.

He watched warriors carrying weapons.

He watched his brothers.

Thor was impossible to ignore.

Even as a young prince, Thor possessed an energy that seemed to fill every room he entered.

Loki was different.

He was quieter.

More observant.

He often carried a book and seemed perfectly comfortable sitting alone for hours.

Rudra quickly discovered that Loki was much easier to observe when he thought no one was watching him.

Unfortunately for Loki, Rudra watched him constantly.

One afternoon, Loki lowered his book.

"You are staring again."

Rudra stared.

Loki waited.

Rudra continued staring.

Loki sighed.

"Do you intend to say something?"

Rudra smiled.

Loki narrowed his eyes.

"You are going to be troublesome."

From across the room, Frigga laughed.

"I think you already know that."

Loki looked at her.

"I was hoping I was wrong."

He was not.

As Rudra grew stronger, he began moving around the palace.

First came crawling.

Then standing.

Then walking.

His first steps were not graceful.

He took three steps across the room before falling directly onto the floor.

Frigga quickly picked him up.

Rudra looked at her.

Then at the floor.

Then back at her.

Frigga smiled.

"You'll get it."

Rudra immediately tried again.

This time he managed five steps.

Thor, who had been watching from nearby, became excited.

"He's walking!"

Rudra took another step.

Thor grinned.

"Come here!"

Rudra immediately walked toward him.

Thor opened his arms.

Rudra reached him—

—and grabbed the wooden training sword resting beside him.

Thor blinked.

"That is not what I meant."

Frigga laughed.

Loki looked up from his book.

"He appears to have chosen his priorities."

Thor took the wooden sword away.

"You cannot have this yet."

Rudra frowned.

Thor smiled.

"When you're older."

Rudra pointed at the sword.

"Mine."

Thor laughed.

"No."

Rudra pointed again.

"Mine."

"No."

Rudra crossed his arms.

Thor stared at him.

"You have your mother's stubbornness."

Frigga smiled.

"And your brother's."

Loki looked up.

"Why am I involved?"

"Because you are the one he watches most carefully."

Loki sighed.

"I regret everything."

Once Rudra could walk, the palace became much too small.

He explored everywhere.

The gardens became his favorite place.

He chased birds even though he could never catch them.

He watched insects moving through the grass.

He touched flowers.

He stared at small animals.

He would sometimes sit completely still simply watching a creature eat.

Frigga noticed.

"You are very interested in them."

Rudra nodded.

"Why?"

Frigga smiled.

"I was asking you."

Rudra looked at the creature again.

"Because they are alive."

Frigga's expression softened.

"That's a good reason."

Rudra did not know why that answer felt important.

But he remembered it.

The palace kitchens became his second favorite place.

The cooks soon learned to watch the youngest prince carefully.

One afternoon, Rudra managed to take a piece of bread from a table.

A servant turned around.

"Prince Rudra!"

Rudra froze.

The servant stared at him.

Rudra slowly hid the bread behind his back.

The servant tried not to laugh.

"Did you take that?"

Rudra shook his head.

The servant looked at the bread sticking out from behind him.

"Your Highness…"

Rudra looked at the bread.

Then at the servant.

Then took a bite.

The servant laughed.

"At least finish it."

Rudra did.

Thor later heard about the incident.

"He stole bread?"

Loki calmly turned a page in his book.

"Technically, he acquired it without permission."

Thor looked at him.

"That is stealing."

Loki shrugged.

"I was being generous."

It was during these early years that the strange System began appearing more clearly.

One night, while Rudra was sitting beside Frigga, blue light appeared inside his mind.

Rudra stared at the floating words.

He reached toward them.

His hand passed through empty air.

Frigga noticed.

"What do you see?"

Rudra looked at her.

"Blue."

"Blue?"

He nodded.

Frigga gently touched his forehead.

"Perhaps you are tired."

Rudra looked back.

The System remained.

He could not explain it.

But he understood that it was real.

The window disappeared.

Rudra said nothing.

He had already begun keeping secrets.

As his speech improved, so did his curiosity.

Rudra asked about everything.

The Bifrost.

The palace.

Weapons.

Animals.

The Nine Realms.

Thor.

Loki.

Odin.

Sometimes even Odin himself became the target.

One evening, Rudra was sitting beside Odin while the All-Father studied reports.

Rudra pointed toward the papers.

"What?"

"Reports."

"How?"

"Written by messengers."

"When?"

"Recently."

"Where?"

"Across the Nine Realms."

Rudra thought about that.

"Who?"

"Officials. Warriors. Rulers."

Rudra nodded.

Then came the question that made Odin smile.

"Why?"

Odin looked at him.

"Because a ruler must understand what is happening beyond his own walls."

Rudra looked at the papers again.

"So you need to know things."

"Yes."

"How?"

Odin smiled.

"By asking questions."

Rudra considered this.

"I like why."

"I know."

Odin returned to his reports.

Rudra stayed beside him.

For several minutes, neither spoke.

Then Rudra pointed at another document.

"Why?"

Odin laughed.

Loki soon realized that Rudra's curiosity could be shaped into something useful.

Rather than simply answering every question, Loki sometimes made Rudra think.

One afternoon, Loki showed him a small wooden box.

"What is it?"

"A box."

"How does it open?"

Rudra examined it.

He found the small latch.

"Like this."

Loki nodded.

"When?"

"When you want what is inside."

"Where?"

Rudra looked at him.

"Here?"

Loki smiled.

"Good."

"Who made it?"

"I did."

Rudra looked impressed.

Then he asked:

"Why?"

Loki smiled.

"To teach you that the first answer is not always the most important one."

Rudra frowned.

Loki opened the box.

Inside was a small wooden bird.

Rudra picked it up.

"What is this?"

"A bird."

"How does it fly?"

"It doesn't."

Rudra looked confused.

"Why?"

Loki laughed.

"Exactly."

Rudra smiled.

Loki had learned something important.

Rudra loved that question.

As the years slowly passed, Rudra began spending more time around Thor.

Thor was already training seriously.

Rudra often watched from the edge of the training yard.

At first, Thor ignored him.

Eventually, Thor noticed that Rudra never looked away.

One afternoon, Thor stopped practicing.

"You have been watching me for a long time."

Rudra nodded.

"Why?"

Rudra pointed at the sword.

"I want to learn."

Thor smiled.

"You are still too young."

"How old?"

Thor thought.

"When you're four, you can watch from closer."

Rudra looked at him.

"I am almost four."

Thor laughed.

"You've been waiting for that answer, haven't you?"

Rudra smiled.

When Rudra reached four, Thor kept his promise.

"You're four now," Thor said one morning. "You can watch the warriors train."

Rudra immediately followed him.

Thor pointed toward a line on the ground.

"You stay behind that."

Rudra nodded.

The training began.

Swords clashed.

Spears moved.

Warriors stepped, turned, blocked, attacked, and countered.

Rudra watched everything.

He noticed that every warrior moved differently.

Some relied on strength.

Some on speed.

Some waited.

Some attacked immediately.

Some protected their weaknesses.

Others deliberately exposed one side to create an opening.

Rudra did not understand all of it.

But he remembered.

Thor eventually noticed.

"You keep watching their feet."

Rudra nodded.

"Why?"

"They move before they attack."

Thor smiled.

"Good."

Rudra looked at another warrior.

"His left side is slower."

Thor looked again.

The observation was correct.

"How did you notice that?"

"He always turns right."

Thor smiled.

"You're learning."

From behind them, Loki's voice appeared.

"Try asking what happens after you notice it."

Rudra turned.

"What happens?"

Loki smiled.

"Now you're learning."

Thor shook his head.

"Don't encourage him."

Loki smiled.

"I intend to."

Rudra's memories were changing too.

For a long time, they had only been fragments.

A strange world.

Machines.

Humans.

Colorful creatures.

But as Rudra grew older, the memories became clearer.

One night, he dreamed of a television.

A child sat in front of it.

On the screen were creatures fighting.

One was yellow.

Another was blue.

Another looked like a dragon.

Then a word appeared.

Pokémon.

Rudra woke suddenly.

"Pokémon…"

He sat silently in the darkness.

The word felt familiar.

More memories returned.

Poké Balls.

Trainers.

Battles.

Gyms.

Leagues.

Legendaries.

And one creature appeared more clearly than the others.

Dratini.

A small blue serpent.

Rudra smiled.

"You…"

Then the memory vanished.

Rudra stared into the darkness.

He finally understood.

He had lived before.

But he still didn't know who he had been.

And he didn't remember everything.

That frightened him more than the memories themselves.

As Rudra became older, he began noticing similarities between his memories and his current world.

Thor.

Loki.

Odin.

Asgard.

The Bifrost.

The Nine Realms.

At first he thought it was coincidence.

Then he began remembering stories.

Stories about Thor.

Stories about Loki.

Stories about Asgard.

Stories about a hammer.

Stories about wars.

Stories about events that had not happened yet.

Rudra became quiet.

Could this really be the world he remembered?

He didn't know.

His memories were incomplete.

And now he was part of the story.

That changed everything.

If he changed something, the future might change.

If he saved someone, perhaps someone else would die.

If he warned someone too early, perhaps something worse would happen.

So Rudra made a decision.

He would not try to control the future.

He would prepare for it.

Thor began giving Rudra small lessons.

Nothing serious.

Not yet.

Balance.

Footwork.

How to hold a wooden sword.

How to fall safely.

How to keep his eyes on an opponent.

One afternoon, Thor handed him a wooden sword.

Rudra nearly dropped it.

Thor laughed.

"It is heavier than you expected."

"Yes."

"Good."

"Why good?"

"Because now you understand that weapons require strength."

Rudra looked at the sword.

"What if I'm not strong enough?"

"Then you become stronger."

"And if I can't?"

Thor smiled.

"Then you find another way."

Rudra looked at him.

That answer stayed with him.

When Rudra was five, his training became more serious.

He received his own wooden sword.

Thor stood opposite him.

"First lesson."

Rudra waited.

"Do not worry about winning."

Rudra frowned.

"Why?"

"Because if winning is all you care about, you stop learning."

Thor raised his sword.

"Watch."

The training began.

Thor blocked every attack.

Rudra tried again.

Blocked.

Again.

Blocked.

Again.

Blocked.

Rudra stopped.

Thor waited.

Rudra studied his stance.

His feet.

His shoulders.

His breathing.

Then Rudra moved sideways.

Thor shifted to block.

Rudra changed direction and tapped Thor's leg.

Silence.

Rudra looked at him.

"I hit you."

Thor stared down.

Then looked at Loki.

Loki was already laughing.

Thor pointed at Rudra.

"That was luck."

Rudra smiled.

"You taught me to watch."

Thor paused.

Then smiled.

"Again."

The System continued changing as Rudra developed.

A new message appeared one evening.

[Beginner Development Stage.]

[Experience System Available.]

[Level System Available.]

[Basic Stats Available.]

[Move Recognition Available.]

[Ability Recognition Available.]

[Nature Analysis Available.]

[Basic Bond System Available.]

[Pokédex: Limited Access.]

Rudra studied the information carefully.

He had expected some incredible power.

Instead, the System was giving him knowledge.

Small advantages.

Tools.

Opportunities.

It was not making him powerful.

It was giving him the ability to become powerful through his own effort.

Rudra liked that.

By the time Rudra was six, his personality had become clear to everyone around him.

He was curious.

He was stubborn.

He loved learning.

He loved exploring.

He enjoyed spending time with Thor.

He could sit quietly with Loki for hours.

He was gentle with animals.

And whenever someone told him something he didn't understand, there was a very good chance the next word would be:

"Why?"

On his sixth birthday, Thor gave him a wooden sword.

Loki gave him a book.

Frigga gave him a protective charm.

Odin gave him a training shield.

Rudra struggled to lift it.

Thor laughed.

"You need stronger arms."

Rudra lifted it again.

"I'll get stronger."

Thor smiled.

"Good answer."

Loki looked at the shield.

"Do not let Thor convince you that strength is everything."

Thor frowned.

"I never said that."

"You don't have to."

Rudra laughed.

His family argued around him.

He listened.

He smiled.

It felt normal.

It felt like home.

That evening, Rudra stood on the balcony overlooking Asgard.

The golden city stretched beneath him.

The Bifrost shimmered in the distance.

The System appeared.

Rudra stared at one line.

Pokémon: None.

He remembered the blue creature from his dreams.

Dratini.

He looked toward the stars.

"Where are you?"

The System gave no answer.

Another message appeared.

[First Partner Selection: Locked.]

[Requirement: Continue Personal Development.]

Rudra sighed.

"So I have to wait."

He smiled.

"Fine."

He looked back toward the palace.

He was only six.

He had no Pokémon.

No legendary weapon.

No army.

He was not a great warrior.

He was not a master strategist.

He was simply Rudra.

A child growing up in a family that loved him.

But he was learning.

Slowly.

Every day.

And somewhere inside him, the memories of another life were beginning to awaken.

The System was waiting.

His first Pokémon was waiting.

And the future was waiting.

Tomorrow, Thor would begin teaching him properly.

For now, Rudra looked toward the stars one last time.

He smiled.

"Why do I have a feeling tomorrow is going to hurt?"

From inside the palace, Thor shouted:

"RUDRA! WAKE UP EARLY TOMORROW!"

Rudra closed his eyes.

"I knew it."

And for the first time, the youngest prince of Asgard understood something important.

Growing up was going to be much harder than he expected.
