Ayla got to work and sat by her work station. Lunchtime came and went to her friends but it seemed as if everyone was ignoring her.
So she just stood there listening to them; she did not mind. Ayla knew they were justified as she, too, had ignored their messages in regards to Xavier.
"Why did you not answer our messages?"
Took them long enough to ask, and part of her had hoped they wouldn't.
She took a deep breath, "I was sick and it was our weekend off, Sammy and I."
"Sammy?" Carrie asked.
"My best friend."
"What happened last week when you went to his office?" This time it was Shelly.
"Xavier took me to his office, as I had injured my leg."
"How did you injure yourself?" Cassandra asked.
"I fell when I bumped into Gabby."
"So you have met her." This time it was Antonella.
"Yes, but it was passing."
"That is not important. What happened in his office?" Carrie replied.
"He called in the nurse, and she treated my foot."
"For that long?" Antonella replied.
"I fell asleep and woke up late. That is all, he cares for his employees."
"Why didn't he wake you up?"
"I think he could see that I was exhausted."
"You are inconveniencing him."
"Not really, he still carried on working, Carrie."
"Nothing more happened?" Delia asked.
"I give you my word, nothing. He did not even speak or anything."
"I wish I could get just one chance that Ayla gets, and he would be mine," Cassandra replied.
They all laughed, "I know, right, lucky you Ayla, but sadly, he does not view you that way." Carrie replied.
Lunch finished, and they went back to the office, until Claire called them in for a meeting.
"Newbies."
They all arrived and sat in the conference room, They waited for her to begin.
"Celebrating your first successful project, company dinner coming up on Friday."
They all cheered,
"Is this dinner just for us?" One of the interns asked.
"Yes, you are also not allowed to bring plus ones; this is strictly a company dinner," Claire replied.
They all nodded and got dismissed.
"I'm so excited." Carrie let out.
"Me too, we did well."
"Do you think Xavier will be there?"
"Maybe, we did do a good job, and it would be natural for him to come and congratulate us," Ayla replied.
Carrie nodded, "You are right, I have to select an outfit."
Ayla nodded; she wasn't going to get an outfit; she wanted to save her money, and the clothes she had would do.
Friday came, and they all sat, shots were poured, Ayla didn't want to be left out,and she chugged one down.
The night was so much fun,
"Gabby is always going to be here."
"Huh?"
"Gabby," Carrie replied.
"What about Gabby?"
"You can't be that drunk, Ayla."
"What?" She asked, confused as to what was going on.
"They arrived half an hour ago," Carrie replied.
"Who?"
"Xavier and Gabby."
Ayla turned to look, and Gabby was stunning, her eyes wandered to Xavier. It's as if he was waiting for her eyes to land on him.
She shook her head and looked away, not tonight.
