Maya opened her eyes to find herself back in her own world. Wearing a hoody over a shirt, with ripped denim jeans and red sneakers. She was in her room staring at the mirror at the face she once forgot, hair black as charcoal, eyes mossy green. She touched her face in disbelief. She closed her eyes and tried to detect any essence around.
Nothing
She started breathing rapidly, she looked around pensive before shouting
"CONTROLLARE"
Nothing
Her vision hadn't altered, she couldn't detect any essence from Mundus.
Was it all just a dream, my death, the fighting, the worlds.
She shook her head in disbelief, right before a knock on her bedroom door caught her attention.
"Honey, are you okay?" A familiar older voice came from the door. Her face slowly turned upside down as tears flowed from her eyes as she ran and opened the door to hug her mother on the other side. Her mother looked suprised and shocked as to why her daughter suddenly burst into tears.
"Maya, are you hurt? I heard you scream while I was doing the laundry..." She said embracing and gently soothing Maya as she shakenly held her.
"No, I'm fine am just....glad it's you." Her voice shaking at every word.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes am sure." She looked up at her and smiled and her mother knew those tears weren't of sorrow but of joy.
"Oh my dear, you always see me here what's different this time?" Letting out a smile she gestured downstairs.
"Let me finish up and you can have some tea. You need something after crying." She said lifting a basket she left next to the doorway along the hall. She walked towards her room as Maya walked downstairs turning left to the kitchen and dining as she sat letting out a sigh.
It was fucking dream, or just an after thought, can't believe this, I have to tell Harry."
Then her expression changed in a grim like manner recalling all that happened within the last few weeks. Shortly afterwards her mother prepared two cups of tea with mint leaves inside as they both drank while Maya let out a sigh of relief.
"I've always loved your tea."
"Really? Maybe because of all the tension you have at school the mint is getting to your head soothing your soul."
"Probably." She said sniffling a laugh as her mother smiled back.
"Harry would always come by, especially this time when we were young."
"He was such a good friend to you and a part of this family. Such a shame though." She said staring at her cup sadly.
"Such a shame that what? Isn't he okay?" She asked as her mother looked at her, a mournful expression on her face.
"Maya!? You know this, Harry is dead." The world felt like it would explode at those words, she couldn't keep a straight face as her expression turned into one of sadness.
"What do you mean dead?"
"The accident? Gosh Maya don't you remember what the doctor's said? Harry was badly injured compared to you, the doctors tried everything but it was all in vain." She said tears forming as she grabbed a handkerchief and patted them.
"If it wasn't for his bravery, you would've died too."
Maya couldn't utter a word as the clouds outside their house turned gray and dismal to the atmosphere within her.
"I want to see....." Shakingly breathing she spoke.
"See what?" Her mother asked a touched confused as watched her daughter breakdown.
"See his grave, Mom, I want to say am sorry." She broke down crying facing down with her arms on the table. Her mother came to her side and hugged her.
"Oh Maya." She said silently comforting her sobbing.
In the rain, the city of London seemed busy as usual the air and atmosphere itself told a different story. Reaching a graveyard on an outskirt, they parked the car as her mother held Maya's arm.
"Go to the old birch tree, that's where he is I'll wait for you to say what you need to say. You two had a special friendship." She said with a reassuring smile.
Maya half smiled before opening the car door and opening an umbrella as she walked towards the entrance of the graveyard. Her sneakers slightly getting wet by the water run off as she walked on the pathway past several graves and tombstones towards the birch tree where tombstones circled the tree until one that looked freshly placed under a branch. The tree looked half dead with some of its branches barely having any leaves. She came closer to it as she read the inscriptions on it.
Here lies Harry Graham,
A loving son and caring friend.
May your soul be with us all
Tears started forming in her eyes as she looked on and remembered all the times they spent together.
"I'm sorry Harry. I shouldn't have said what I said, you didn't deserve to die for me. I shouldn't have pushed you away. Everything was so bad for me back then I didn't know what do. I didn't want you to know because I wanted to do this all on my own but..." Her tears over flowed as she closed her eyes shakingly letting out a sigh.
"I can't do this without you, I don't know what do next." She slowly knelt down placing her hand on top of the grave.
"May your soul be with me for I loved you." She said standing up leaving as her mother waited inside the car for her.
She suddenly felt dizzy before reaching the car as she fell down to the ground unconscious. She awoke but it was the day of the accident, everything replayed in multitudes as she couldn't get a grip of what was real or what wasn't until she woke up on her bed shakingly breathing. She turned to see her mother facing the window until she came by her side.
"Are you okay Maya? You passed out before you entered the car I got so worried."
"Yes mom am fine now. Just had a nightmare." She said sitting up before realisation hit her.
"I thought i was supposed to be taken to the hospital, knowing I passed out how did you know I'd be fine?" She asked. Her mother slightly jerked at that question which made Maya suspicious but not overly concerned.
"Oh it was just a guess if you hadn't I was going to take you there myself." She said smiling again as she walked towards her door.
"Get some rest, it's been a very emotional day and I hope you get better."
"I will mom." Her mother closed the door as her footsteps subsided, Maya sprung from her bed and faced the mirror in her room.
This is not my world, Harry had less injuries compared to me that means...
She stared long hard into the mirror before placing her finger as she said
"May your soul be with me."
The mirror shattered opening a golden portal before she looked back and let out a sigh as she got sucked in and awoke back to the beginning of the first test area in Mundus as she saw Freya and Yama watch her from a balcony with expressions of happiness and respect. She turned looking for Daisy and found her chatting with the long coat breacher as she walked towards her as Daisy smiled warmly before hugging her.
"You finally passed it."
"You did better yourself."
"Not better but best, she was the first to come out." He said.
"By the way my name is Lucas."
"Maya" she said nodding.
"So what next?"
As soon as she said that Alucard walked towards them with the other elite breachers behind him as they all slowly started clapping.
"Well done. All of you. The last test was not an easy one I believe. The reluctant regret you leave behind is a poison to the soul, those who succumb to it will only find false comfort and believe what they did wasn't enough. But for you who passed you knew not to linger to regrets once absolved you believed what you did was enough and broke free. That's the true way of belief." The other elites exalted their thanks before Maya spoke.
"What about those who remained? What will happen to them?"
"Their essence will slowly drain away as they turn and rest eternally." He said nodding.
"Out of the 500 breachers that took part in this tests, 144 of you made it out. It is with great pleasure by the Great Omniscient Deity himself to welcome you to Mundus and the Breacher corps." An exclaim of cheers and music played in the background as everybody including Maya and Daisy felt overjoyed by their efforts to having a second chance in life. But their happiness was short lived when an alarm cut their celebrations short. As Yama and Freya looked at each other in horror as a huge holographic screen appeared showing a planet turning crimson red as a tree sprouted the size of the planet itself with red and gold essence pulsing from it's vein as it stopped growing.
"Isn't that...."
"Yes, Maya that's Mundus 147894."
They all watched as a world succumbed to the dark energy and influence of the diabolus.
