The Powerplay had been navigated safely, but the run rate was hovering around a modest 7.5. For a semi-final on a flat Adelaide pitch with short square boundaries, it felt under par. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were set, but they were struggling to break free from the tight lines bowled by the English seamers.
Jos Buttler decided to bring his death-overs specialist, Chris Jordan, into the attack break the budding partnership.
Over 8: Chris Jordan to Rohit Sharma
Ball 1: Jordan started with a heavy length ball. Rohit tried to punch it off the back foot but mistimed it to cover. Dot.
Ball 2: Jordan pitched it up slightly, searching for a bit of swing. Rohit Sharma finally found his timing. He stepped out slightly, made room, and slapped it over extra cover. It wasn't perfectly off the middle, but it had enough power to bounce once and crash into the boundary rope. FOUR.
Ravi Shastri: "He needed that! The Indian captain needed that boundary. It relieves a bit of pressure. He has been searching for his timing all evening."
Ball 4: Rohit was on 27 off 27 balls. The strike rate was a glaring issue. He knew he had to accelerate, but the desperation clouded his judgment. Jordan ran in and bowled a length ball, angling in towards the stumps. Rohit didn't wait to read the pace. He planted his front foot, didn't create a solid base, and went for a wild, cross-batted heave through the line, aiming for the long-on boundary.
The bat turned in his hands. He sliced it completely. The ball went miles up into the Adelaide night sky, swirling like a falling leaf. It was a massive steepler towards wide long-on.
Sam Curran came charging in from the deep boundary. He kept his eyes locked on the white ball, sprinted a good twenty yards, flung himself forward full-stretch, and held onto the ball mere inches from the turf!
Nasser Hussain (Voice rising): "OUT! A spectacular catch in the deep! Sam Curran, you beauty! A wild, wild launch from Rohit Sharma, no solid base on his heave whatsoever. It went miles up, and Curran scampers in to take a stunner inches from the grass! The Indian captain's labored innings is cut short!"
Harsha Bhogle: "Oh, that is a poor shot, and an even poorer innings in the context of a semi-final. 27 off 28 balls. A strike rate of less than 100. As a captain and an opener, you cannot afford to eat up that many deliveries in a T20 World Cup knockout game without capitalizing. He puts so much pressure on the middle order now."

The disappointment of Rohit's innings hung heavy over the Indian fans, but as the captain trudged off the field, the mood shifted instantaneously. The DJ cranked up the music. The giant screens flashed a familiar, menacing silhouette.
AARAV PATHAK.
The roar that erupted around the Adelaide Oval was deafening. The Vice-Captain, the man who had been the most destructive force in world cricket over the last two years, walked down the steps. He looked entirely unbothered by the pressure. He chewed his gum, his bat resting casually on his shoulder.
Ravi Shastri: "Listen to this crowd! They know who is walking out. The Vice-Captain. The Prince. He has to do a massive repair job here, but he has to do it at 10 runs an over to get India to a par score."
Aarav reached the middle. He didn't have a long chat with Virat Kohli. Just a quick nod and a tap of gloves.
Ball 5: Jordan to Aarav. Jordan bowled a quick, skidding delivery on the off-stump. Aarav presented a solid, dead-straight bat, defending it softly back down the pitch. Dot.
Ball 6: Jordan, feeling confident, tried to cramp the new batsman. He bowled a fast, darting delivery right onto the pads, aiming to tie Aarav down or force an LBW.
Aarav didn't even move his feet much. He simply stood tall, waiting for the ball to arrive. At the very last millisecond, he brought his bat down. It wasn't a violent swing; it was a ridiculously soft, wristy flick. He used the sheer flexibility of his wrists to whip the ball off his pads.
The connection sounded like a gentle thwack, but the physics of the shot made no sense. The ball launched off the face of the bat, carrying an unbelievable amount of timing and elevation. It soared over the deep square-leg boundary, clearing the ropes with yards to spare. SIX!
Nasser Hussain (Stunned): "Are you kidding me?! What on earth was that?! That is an impossible shot! He has barely touched it! It was just a flick of the wrists off the pads, and it's gone 80 meters into the stands! That defies logic!"
Ravi Shastri (Screaming): "MAGIC! PURE MAGIC FROM THE PRINCE! He looks like he came set from the dugout! You cannot teach that flexibility! Jordan is standing there wondering if his eyes are deceiving him!"
At the non-striker's end, Virat Kohli literally put his hand on his head, his mouth wide open in pure disbelief. He looked at Aarav, then looked at the crowd where the ball had landed, before bursting into a disbelieving laugh and clapping his hands.
Aarav just stood there for a second or two, his face expressionless as he tapped the pitch.
End of Over 8.Score: India 66/2. Aarav Pathak: 6* (2 balls). Virat Kohli: 23* (18 balls).
Harsha Bhogle: "We spent the last twenty minutes talking about how difficult the pitch was to time the ball. Aarav Pathak walks in and on his second delivery, plays a shot of absolute genius. The contrast is mind-boggling. The Vice-Captain is here, and he means business."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jos Buttler, desperate to wrest back control after Aarav's magical six, turned to his premier leg-spinner, Adil Rashid. The pitch had shown signs of slowness, and Rashid was a master at exploiting hesitation. Virat Kohli was on strike.
Over 9: Adil Rashid to Virat Kohli
Ball 1: Rashid tossed it up beautifully, a flighted leg-break outside off. Kohli leaned forward, presenting a full, defensive face of the bat. Dot.
Ball 2: Rashid went slightly flatter and quicker through the air. Kohli rocked back, trying to force it through the covers, but found the fielder in the ring. Dot.
Ball 3: Rashid bowled it slightly fuller, dipping it late. It looked identical to the leg-break. Kohli, trying to manipulate the field and rotate the strike, stepped forward to drive through the off-side. But it was the googly. Kohli completely misread the spin out of the hand. The ball pitched, gripped the dry surface, and spun back in sharply through the gate. It sneaked between bat and pad and crashed directly into the middle stump!
Ravi Shastri (In Shock): "BOWLED HIM! He has missed it completely! Adil Rashid strikes a massive blow! Virat Kohli couldn't read the spin at all, played for the leg-break, and the googly shatters the woodwork! India is in deep, deep trouble now!"
Virat Kohli b Rashid 23 (21)Score: India 66/3
Ball 4: The crowd was completely hushed as Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) walked out to the middle. The ICC ranked No. 2 T20I batter was joining the No. 1 ranked batter, Aarav Pathak, who was stranded at the non-striker's end. Rashid bowled a sharp, turning leg-break. SKY defended it watchfully off the back foot. Dot.
Ball 5: SKY, feeling the pressure of the semi-final occasion, decided he couldn't let Rashid dictate terms. He shuffled across his stumps, getting low to play his trademark sweep shot. Rashid, anticipating the movement, fired it in fuller and straighter. SKY missed the sweep completely. The ball thudded flush onto his front pad. "HOWZAT!" The English team went up in unison. The umpire didn't hesitate and raised his finger.
SKY immediately consulted with Aarav at the non-striker's end and signaled for the review.
DRS: Pitching in line. Impact in line. Wickets hitting. Three reds!
Nasser Hussain: "Given out and it stays out! Plumb as you like! Surya tries to sweep early and pays the ultimate price! He reviews it out of desperation, but it's crashing into middle and leg. He is gone for a duck! What a disastrous over this is turning out to be for India!"
Suryakumar Yadav lbw b Rashid 0 (2)Score: India 66/4
Ball 6: Rishabh Pant walked out to the middle. The pressure inside the Adelaide Oval was suffocating. India had lost two of their biggest pillars in the space of three deliveries. Adil Rashid tossed up the hat-trick delivery, giving it plenty of air.
Pant, instead of defending to see out the over and calm the nerves, suffered an inexplicable rush of blood. On his very first ball, he charged down the track, aiming for a wild, cross-batted slog over long-on. He completely mistimed it. The ball went straight up, swirling high into the night sky. Liam Livingstone settled underneath it at deep mid-wicket and took a comfortable catch.
Ravi Shastri (Furious): "OUT! CAUGHT! What on earth was Rishabh Pant thinking?! That is absolute madness! First ball, the team is collapsing, and he goes for a wild slog! He has thrown his wicket away!"
Nasser Hussain (Bitingly critical): "That is incredibly irresponsible batting from Rishabh Pant! You have just lost Kohli and Surya in the same over! You have your Vice-Captain standing at the other end! Your only job was to block that ball and end the over! This is a World Cup Semi-Final, not a Sunday club match! Brainless cricket!"

Harsha Bhogle: "A triple-wicket maiden for Adil Rashid. It has completely broken the back of this Indian batting lineup. Kohli bowled, Surya trapped LBW, and Pant playing a shot that will infuriate the management. Bad... very, very bad game awareness from the middle order."
Ravi Shastri: "I cannot excuse Pant and Surya for those shots. That was reckless. They have left the entire team in a massive hole. Now, look at the other end. All the pressure of a billion people is right back on this young man's shoulders again."
The camera panned to Aarav Pathak. He stood at the non-striker's end, leaning on his bat, his face an unreadable mask of cold focus. He had just watched three of his most reliable teammates march back to the pavilion in the span of six deliveries.
He was 6 not out off 2 balls. And suddenly, he was fighting a lone war.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Adelaide Oval was in a state of stunned silence following the catastrophic middle-order collapse. As the umpires signaled for the strategic drinks break, Hardik Pandya, the quintessential pressure player, strode out to the middle. His face was a mask of sheer determination.
But he wasn't walking alone. Emerging from the Indian dugout with urgent, purposeful strides was the Head Coach, Rahul Dravid.
Dravid walked straight to the pitch, flanked by the water boys, and immediately pulled Aarav and Hardik into a tight, intense discussion. The "Wall" of Indian cricket knew exactly what to say when the foundations were crumbling.
"Listen to me very carefully, both of you," Dravid instructed, his voice low but cutting through the stadium noise. "The game plan right now is extremely simple. We play slow. We do not let another wicket fall. Am I clear?"
Hardik nodded, taking a sip from his water bottle. Aarav kept chewing his gum, his eyes locked onto the coach.
"We must build a partnership," Dravid continued, placing a hand on both their shoulders. "We need 4 to 5 overs of pure build-up. I don't care about the run rate right now. If we get 25 runs in the next 30 balls, it is absolutely okay. Set yourselves on the crease. Get the feel of the pitch."
Dravid pointed back towards the dressing room. "We still have Dinesh Karthik and Axar Patel in the shed, but we cannot expose them to the spinners right now. So set yourself on the crease, survive this phase, and then we go for the hit. Not before."
"Understood, Rahul Sir," Aarav said firmly. "We'll anchor this, Sir," Hardik added, patting Aarav's back.
The cameras zoomed in on the animated huddle before Dravid jogged back to the boundary.
Harsha Bhogle: "In the drinks break, we've just seen a long, very intense chat between Aarav Pathak, the new man Hardik Pandya, and the Head Coach Rahul Dravid. What could that be about, Ravi? It looked like a serious lecture."
Ravi Shastri: "It has to be about building the innings, Harsha. They need to work to keep these wickets safe at all costs. That single over by Adil Rashid has completely changed the complexion of the game. India was looking to explode, and now they are just trying to survive. Dravid is a master of the grind; he'll be telling them to take the game deep, forget the scoreboard for the next few overs, and just stop the bleeding."
Jos Buttler, eager to keep his foot firmly on India's throat, tossed the ball to his talisman, Ben Stokes. Stokes relished these pressure-cooker situations and knew exactly how to bowl to two aggressive batters trying to rebuild.
Ball 1: Aarav on strike. Stokes runs in and bowls a heavy, back-of-a-length delivery on middle stump. Aarav, strictly following Dravid's instructions, presents a dead straight bat, defending it solidly down the pitch. Dot.
Ball 2: Stokes pitches it slightly fuller, angling it into the pads. Aarav softly clips it towards square leg, immediately calling for the run. 1 Run.
Ball 3: Hardik Pandya faces his first delivery. Stokes digs it in short, testing the bounce. Hardik sways out of the line, dropping his wrists elegantly to let it sail over his head. Dot.
Ball 4: Stokes bowls a good length ball on the fourth stump line. Hardik pushes it firmly towards the sweeper cover for an easy rotation of strike. 1 Run.
Ball 5: Aarav back on strike. Stokes decides to test the Vice-Captain with some chin music. It's a very well-directed short ball, angling sharply into the body, climbing right towards the head. Aarav is cramped for room as he attempts the hook shot. He doesn't roll his wrists over it properly. The ball takes a massive top edge! It flies high into the Adelaide night sky, carrying fine... too fine for the fine-leg fielder. It sails just over the boundary ropes! SIX!
Ravi Shastri: "SIX! Not entirely in control, though, I think! Good short ball from Stokes, angling into the body, towards the head, and Aarav is cramped for room on the hook. He top-edges it, but it carries fine, too fine for fine leg, and it goes all the way for six! A very welcome boundary, even if it was lucky!"
Ball 6: Aarav tapped the pitch, his adrenaline suddenly spiking. Stokes ran in again, trying to overcompensate by pitching it full and wide, almost inviting Aarav to drive it over the off-side field. Aarav didn't need a second invitation. He leaned into it, opening the face of the bat, and played a gorgeous, lofted drive over the leaping extra-cover fielder. FOUR.
Harsha Bhogle: "FOUR! Much more convincing this time! Full and wide, almost inviting Aarav to drive it over the leaping extra-cover fielder. And he's certainly not going to miss out on those! The sheer class of the man shines through!"
As the umpire called "Over," Aarav and Hardik met mid-pitch. Despite getting 10 runs off the last two balls and easing the pressure, Hardik did not look pleased at all.
Hardik grabbed Aarav by the shoulder, his face stern. "What are you doing, Aarav?" Hardik scolded him softly but sharply, ensuring the stump mics couldn't pick it up. "We literally just discussed this with Rahul Sir! We don't have to throw away our wickets! That hook shot was a huge risk. Build up first! Provide stability to the wicket, then we attack!"
Aarav looked at his senior partner. The red mist of wanting to dominate Stokes had almost cost him his wicket on that top edge. He took a deep breath, letting the logic sink in over the adrenaline.
Aarav nodded seriously, accepting the criticism. "You're right, Kung-Fu. My bad. I'll ground it. Let's stick to the plan."
He bumped his fist against Hardik's glove, the Vice-Captain accepting the check from the senior all-rounder. The rebuilding phase was back on track.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Scolding from Hardik Pandya had the desired effect. The adrenaline spike from Aarav's boundaries off Ben Stokes was quickly suppressed, replaced by a cold, calculating determination.
Jos Buttler, sensing India's hesitation, brought back his chief destroyer for the 11th over. Adil Rashid. The man who had bowled the triple-wicket maiden, castling Kohli and trapping Surya, was eager for his fourth victim.
Over 11: Adil Rashid to Hardik Pandya
Nasser Hussain: "Here is the ultimate test of that strategic timeout chat. Adil Rashid is back. He has the ball on a string tonight. Hardik Pandya is on strike. India has to survive this spell."
Ball 1: Rashid tossed it up, a loopy leg-break. Hardik took a long stride forward, smothered the spin completely, and dead-batted it back down the pitch. Dot.
Ball 2: Rashid went slightly flatter. Hardik rocked back and punched it towards long-off for an easy single. 1 Run.
Ball 3: Aarav on strike. Rashid tried the googly. Aarav watched the hand closely. He didn't try to force it; he just dropped it with soft hands into the gap on the leg side. 1 Run.
Ball 4-6: Hardik played with extreme caution. He took a single off the fifth ball, and Aarav defended the last ball solidly.
End of Over 11.Score: India 81/5. Runs from Over: 3.
Harsha Bhogle: "Just 3 runs from the over. A stark contrast to the fireworks we usually see in the 11th over of a T20. But in the context of this match, that is a victory for India. They have negotiated Rashid's most dangerous over without any alarms."
What followed was a passage of play that felt more suited to a Test match on a tricky Day 4 pitch than a T20 World Cup Semi-Final. Aarav Pathak and Hardik Pandya simply stopped trying to hit boundaries.
They nudged. They tucked. They sprinted like sprinters between the wickets. Jos Buttler brought on Sam Curran and Liam Livingstone to rush through the overs, setting attacking fields to tempt the Indian duo into a false shot. But Aarav and Hardik refused to bite.

Over 14 (Curran): 5 runs (All singles).
The crowd at the Adelaide Oval, usually roaring with every boundary, was reduced to a nervous, appreciative murmur. They recognized the repair job happening before their eyes.
Ravi Shastri: "This is absolute discipline. We talk about power-hitting, we talk about scoops and ramps. But this right here knowing when to put the anchor down and swallow your ego this is what makes champions. They are following Rahul Dravid's blueprint to the letter."
Nasser Hussain: "It's a fascinating tactical battle. Jos Buttler has the field up to stop the singles, but these two are piercing the inner ring with such soft hands that the fielders can't prevent the rotation of strike. However, the stat on my screen is glaring... it has been 24 balls since the last boundary."
Over 15:
As they entered the 15th over, the score had crawled to 97/5. Chris Jordan was brought back into the attack. The 30-ball, 25-run target set by Dravid during the drinks break was nearly achieved. They had stabilized the ship.
Ball 1-5 (Chris Jordan): Jordan bowled a mix of hard lengths and slower balls into the pitch. Hardik managed to pull a short ball for a couple of runs, followed by a series of well-placed singles. The score ticked past 100.
Ball 6: The scoreboard read 102/5. It was the final ball of the 15th over (14.6). Aarav was on strike. He knew he needed to keep the strike for the 16th over the traditional launchpad in a T20 innings.
Jordan bowled a heavy length ball on the middle and leg stump line. Aarav didn't try to clear the boundary. He just rolled his wrists, working the ball softly into the massive pocket at deep square leg. He immediately called for the run. "One!" He crossed over easily, jogging the last few steps, ensuring he would face the first ball of the next over. 1 Run.
End of Over 15.Score: India 103/5.

Harsha Bhogle: "And that wraps up the 15th over. India reaches 103 for 5. It has been a painful, grinding recovery, but a completely necessary one. Aarav Pathak is on 27, Hardik is on 14. They have batted for exactly 6 overs together and added 37 runs without hitting a single boundary since that Stokes over."
Ravi Shastri: "The foundation has been laid, Harsha. The storm has been weathered. They have Dinesh Karthik and Axar Patel still waiting in the shed. We have 5 overs left. 30 balls. The pitch is beautiful. The buildup phase is officially over. From the 16th over onwards, you could see a very different Aarav Pathak and a very different Hardik Pandya. The launch sequence is about to begin."
Aarav and Hardik met in the middle of the pitch. They didn't punch gloves this time. They just shared a look. The holding pattern was done. It was time to unleash.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 15th over concluded the rebuilding phase. Rahul Dravid's instructions had been followed to perfection. The platform was set, the pitch was assessed, and the storm had been weathered. Now, it was time to unleash.
Jos Buttler, hoping to squeeze one more quiet over out of his part-timers, handed the ball to Liam Livingstone.
Ravi Shastri: "15 overs gone. 103 for 5. The foundation has been laid with sweat and extreme discipline. But now, Harsha, the waiting game is over. The fire and the hunger that these two have bottled up for the last five overs is about to explode. Livingstone has the ball. Aarav Pathak is on strike."
Over 16: Liam Livingstone to Aarav Pathak
Ball 1: Livingstone tossed it up, giving it plenty of air outside off-stump. Aarav didn't just step out; he charged like a sprinter off the blocks. He got to the pitch of the ball, swung his bat in a massive, clean arc, and launched it high into the Adelaide night. It flew over long-on. It cleared the boundary, cleared the first few rows, and kept going until it crashed into the upper deck!
Harsha Bhogle (Voice rising): "Oh, my word! He has sent that into orbit! The waiting is over, and Aarav Pathak announces the gear shift with the biggest six of the tournament so far! 106 meters! The sheer sound of that connection..."
Ball 2: Livingstone, rattled, bowled it flatter and wider. Aarav waited on the back foot and slapped it fiercely. The ball rocketed just inches over the head of a leaping Ben Stokes at extra cover. It bounced once and smashed into the advertising cushions. FOUR.
Nasser Hussain: "He nearly took Stokes' fingers off! That was hit with such venom. The beast has well and truly awakened."
Ball 3: Aarav pushed a flatter delivery to deep point to rotate the strike. 1 Run.
Ball 4: Hardik Pandya on strike. Livingstone bowled a leg-break on middle stump. Hardik punched it powerfully down the ground, beating the diving bowler, and they sprinted hard for two. 2 Runs.
Ball 5: Livingstone erred in length. It was right in the slot, full and straight. Hardik Pandya dropped down on one knee. He unleashed his trademark lofted slog-sweep. The ball left the bat like a tracer bullet, soaring over deep mid-wicket. The crowd gasped as the ball traveled out of the stadium and landed on the roof of the stands!
Ravi Shastri (Screaming): "BOOM! KUNG-FU PANDYA SAYS 'HOLD MY DRINK'! Aarav hit the biggest six of the tournament four balls ago, and Hardik has just broken that record! 110 meters! He sends it onto the roof! Anything you can do, I can do bigger!"

Jos Buttler was panicking. The quiet phase was shattered. He immediately called upon his premier death bowler, Sam Curran, to bowl the 17th over.
Over 17: Sam Curran to Aarav Pathak
Ball 1: Curran ran in from over the wicket, aiming for the perfect wide yorker to keep it out of Aarav's hitting arc. He nailed the execution. It was full, fast, and kissing the wide guideline. But Aarav Pathak was operating on a different plane of existence. He shuffled aggressively across his stumps, reaching out with every inch of his 6'2" frame. He didn't try to slice it; he used pure, unadulterated muscle power to drag that wide yorker straight back down the ground.
The connection was terrifying. The ball launched high over the sight screen, disappearing into the darkness beyond the stands!
Harsha Bhogle (Laughing in disbelief): "I do not believe what I am seeing! How do you hit a wide yorker for a straight six?! And look at the distance! He has broken the record again! 114 meters! The record has changed hands three times in the space of seven deliveries!"
The cameras caught the absolute theater on the field. At the non-striker's end, Hardik Pandya just rested his chin on the handle of his bat, smiling and shaking his head in sheer disbelief at his Vice-Captain's freakish power. Behind the stumps, Jos Buttler had both hands on his head, staring at the sky. Even the bowler, Sam Curran, couldn't help but crack a wry, helpless smile. What do you do when your best ball gets hit out of the stadium?
But the best reaction was in the Indian dugout. Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Rohit Sharma were on their feet, leaning over the railing. They were pointing at the roof where the ball vanished, laughing animatedly, slapping each other on the back like giddy school kids watching a magic trick.
Nasser Hussain: "Look at the Indian dugout! Even King Kohli is in awe! Sam Curran is smiling because, frankly, you just have to applaud that. It defies all cricketing logic!"
Ball 2: Curran tried to go straight into the toes. Aarav stood tall, creating his own room, and launched a flat, bullet-like straight drive right back over Curran's head. It didn't go as high, but it went just as far into the stands. SIX!
Ravi Shastri: "FLAT AND STRAIGHT! Back-to-back sixes! Aarav Pathak brings up his half-century in the most monstrous way possible! Fifty for the Prince!"

Jos Buttler, desperate to plug the massive leak of runs, threw the ball to his designated death-overs specialist, Chris Jordan. Jordan had gotten Rohit Sharma out earlier with his variations, but now he was running into two men completely in the zone.
Hardik Pandya was on strike.
Ball 1: Jordan ran in and bowled a heavy length ball, angling in towards the stumps. Hardik stood his ground. He didn't use his wrists; he used his shoulders. He punched the ball fiercely back past the bowler. It was an exhibition of pure muscle. The ball rocketed down the ground and smashed into the boundary boards before long-on could even move. FOUR!

Ball 2: Jordan, trying to compensate, attempted a wide yorker. He missed his mark by a few inches, serving up a full delivery outside off. Hardik Pandya got his front foot out of the way. With a lightning-fast whip of the wrists, he brought his bat down in a glorious, unmistakable arc. The follow-through saw the bat twirl over his head. The Helicopter Shot. Ball 4: Aarav Pathak was on strike. Curran, knowing Aarav's power down the ground, packed the straight boundaries and bowled a fast, full delivery aimed at the pads. Aarav foresaw the strategy. He didn't try to muscle it straight. Instead, he got inside the line of the ball, went down on one knee, and used Curran's 138 kmph pace. He opened the face of the bat and scooped it beautifully, fine behind the wicket-keeper. The ball raced to the fine-leg boundary. FOUR!

The Adelaide Oval was buzzing like a beehive. The 19th over had yielded 18 runs, taking India to a commanding 177/5. With six balls left, the crowd was chanting for the elusive 200-mark.
Jos Buttler had a massive decision to make. Sam Curran was bowled out. He had to go back to Chris Jordan, the man who had been taken to the cleaners by Hardik Pandya just an over ago, conceding 19 runs.
Nasser Hussain: "Jos Buttler is backing his veteran. Chris Jordan had a nightmare in the 18th over, but he is their designated death bowler. He has a wealth of experience, but he is bowling to a Vice-Captain who is seeing the ball like a football. Aarav Pathak is on strike. Fasten your seatbelts."
Ball 1: Jordan steamed in, desperate to nail his yorker. He angled it in towards the leg stump, aiming for the toes. But Aarav Pathak's anticipation was otherworldly. He didn't move his feet much; he just let the ball arrive. At the very last microsecond, his wrists snapped. It was a flick of pure, unadulterated elegance. The ball rocketed off the sweet spot, tracing a beautiful parabola over the deep square-leg boundary. SIX!
Harsha Bhogle: "Oh, the wrists of a magician! That is just pure, subcontinental flair! Jordan bowls it full on the pads, and Aarav Pathak just flicks it away into the night sky! No muscle, just timing! India moves to 183!"
Ball 2: Jordan, stung by the six, realized he couldn't bowl at the stumps. He went full and wide outside the off-stump, forcing Aarav to fetch it. Aarav stepped across and tried to slice it over the deep point boundary for another maximum. He got the distance, but he didn't get the elevation. The ball soared flat and hard. Out in the deep, Liam Livingstone judged the trajectory perfectly, leaped into the air right on the edge of the boundary rope, and plucked it out of the sky!
Ravi Shastri (Voice booming): "IN THE AIR... AND TAKEN! A spectacular catch by Livingstone on the ropes! Aarav Pathak goes for back-to-back sixes but finds the fielder! But listen to this crowd! The entire Adelaide Oval is on its feet! What a phenomenal innings under immense pressure! The Prince has done his job!"
Aarav walked off to a deafening standing ovation. He raised his bat to the crowd, his face a picture of calm satisfaction. He had dragged India from 66/5 to 183/6. Aarav Pathak c Livingstone b Jordan 64 (29).
Ball 3: Dinesh Karthik, the designated finisher, sprinted to the crease. India needed a strong finish. Jordan, suddenly injected with confidence, bowled the perfect delivery. A searing, 142 kmph yorker that dipped late. DK tried to bring his bat down, but he was beaten by the sheer pace and trajectory. The ball sneaked under his bat and crashed into the base of the middle stump.
Nasser Hussain: "BOWLED HIM! First ball! Chris Jordan, you beauty! What a comeback from the Englishman! A perfect yorker right at the base of the stumps, and Dinesh Karthik has to take the long walk back! Two in two for Jordan!"
Ball 4: The stadium was suddenly tense. Axar Patel walked out to face the hat-trick ball. Jordan ran in, the crowd clapping in rhythm. He aimed for the exact same spot. A searing toe-crushing yorker, angling in sharply. Axar got his bat down just in time, digging it out to the leg side. They scrambled for a quick single.
Harsha Bhogle: "He digs it out! No hat-trick for Chris Jordan! Axar Patel does brilliantly to survive that thunderbolt and gets the set man back on strike!"
Ball 5: India was suddenly 184/7. The momentum had completely shifted back to England in the space of three deliveries. Hardik Pandya, stranded at the non-striker's end during the chaos, was finally on strike. He was on 51.
Jordan, trying to compensate, bowled a fast, short ball, aiming for Hardik's body. Hardik was waiting. He swiveled and pulled it ferociously over deep square leg. It flew all the way into the stands! SIX!
Ravi Shastri: "WHAT A SHOT! Ice running through his veins! Hardik Pandya watches two wickets fall from the other end, gets on strike, and deposits the first ball he faces into the crowd!"
Ball 6: Jordan, frustrated, overcompensated on the final ball of the innings. He bowled a low full toss outside the off-stump. Hardik calmly stepped into it, opening the face of his bat to slice it perfectly past backward point. The timing was exquisite, and the ball raced to the boundary rope. FOUR!
Nasser Hussain: "And he finishes with a boundary! 10 runs off the last two balls from Hardik Pandya to ruin Chris Jordan's perfect over! What an absolutely breathtaking final over of this innings!"
End of Over 20.Score: India 194/7. Runs from Over: 17 runs and 2 wickets.
Final Scorecard Summary:
India: 194/7 (20 Overs)
Aarav Pathak: 64 (29)
Hardik Pandya: 61* (26)
Axar Patel: 1* (1)
Harsha Bhogle : "Take a breath, ladies and gentlemen. We have witnessed a classic. India was dead and buried at 66 for 5 after 9 overs. But a phenomenal, maturity-defying partnership of 117 runs between Aarav Pathak and Hardik Pandya resurrected them. And just when you thought the momentum shifted with Jordan's double strike, Hardik Pandya ensures India posts a massive 194 on the board."
Ravi Shastri: "It is a monumental total in a knockout game. England's mighty batting lineup, with Buttler, Hales, and Stokes, will have to play out of their skins to chase this down. The pitch is good, but the pressure of a World Cup Semi-Final scoreboard is a different beast entirely. We will be back with the chase!"
