The enormous sword seemed to have lost all its weight. It flowed through the shadow's hands with impossible fluidity, and every swing carried enough force to turn the black stone beneath them into shattered debris.
Max answered each one.
The Emotion Severing Path ran continuously through Dragonheart. He severed momentum, severed sword intent, and severed portions of the force behind the attacks.
Yet the Eighth Shadow simply kept generating more. Every time Max weakened one strike, another followed with fresh momentum. Every time he found an opening, the shadow willingly exposed some other part of its body in exchange for keeping the offensive alive.
That was what made it so dangerous, because it had stopped caring about defense entirely.
Max blocked another overhead strike.
Boom!
His feet sank slightly into the stone as the greatsword pressed down, and his arm began to tremble.
Then the shadow suddenly pulled back.
Max sensed the danger at once.
