Just as she was caught up in feelings too mixed to untangle, a familiar voice called out from beyond the door.
She’d heard that voice so many times by now, she recognized her instantly.
Hwayeong glanced at Sohwa, who quickly got to her feet.
Once she’d seen that, Hwayeong gave her reply.
“Come in.”
As expected, it was a court lady from Baekryeon Lodge.
Hwayeong looked her over, her voice even.
“What is it?”
The maid stepped forward with graceful composure and placed a letter before her.
“This was sent for you.”
“By whom?”
“I was told you would understand upon reading it, milady.”
And with that, the maid quietly withdrew.
Hwayeong looked at the letter, then turned to Sohwa.
Sohwa gave her a puzzled look in return.
“Were you expecting something?”
“No.”
Even if she had, a letter delivered by a Baekryeon Lodge maid would’ve been suspicious.
“You should open it.”
Sohwa urged her, visibly on edge after everything that had happened.
