But Violet couldn't help hesitating at the door the moment she heard Cain's tone, deep and sharp.
Getting there had been difficult enough. She'd had to beg Harry, the head of Cain's security, just to be let in.
It had taken a long time to convince him, and even then he stood by the door beside her, watching her with a look of sharp distrust in his eyes.
But Violet only hesitated a moment, holding her breath as she pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Her hands trembled as she entered without shutting the door behind her. The truth was, she missed Cain, but he scared her too.
She remembered the way he'd looked at her the last time they spoke, the cold way he'd ignored her. If he'd stopped loving her, then Violet fully believed he was capable of hurting her, and worse.
His eyes widened as he adjusted his legs where he sat on the bed, his gaze settling on her, the color tinged more red than gold, which was clearly not good.
